Who here likes tremolo with bass ... and which pedal?

I'm GASing for a tremolo pedal ... there's really just one song we play currently where it would fit in, but I would still like to get one, if nothing else just to fool around with at home. Top of the line seems to be Empress, Diamond, Cusack, Suhr, maybe others I haven't found yet - I want tap tempo, so that would rule out a lot of pedals.

Any thoughts on tremolo with bass in general, and which pedal you like?

I use a very light tremelo for some chordal stuff I do in a couple of songs, Its more just for texture and I actually started to use it through necessity. On my multi FX I try to stick to one preset as much as possible, and that limits the number of different effects I can use. I already need to use octaver fuzz and pitch shift meaning I only had the 'reverb/delay' slot available. I found a stereo effect that would normally go from left to right, but in mono it sounds just like a tremelo. I fiddled with the settings and it now sound more like a modulated effect, so I've kept using it!

Tremelo IMO only really works for chordal stuff, I wouldnt use it for anything else. But done nicely, it can make it sound lovely! I should mention I havent set mine as tap tempo either, cos I like it quite slow.

I used to use charts, then tremolo on ethereal melodic / improvised stuff and couldn't really get the sound that I had in my head. Then my brother bought a NUX Mod core pedal

Turns out the sound I was REALLY after was a rotary speaker. Cheap as chips too!

Have a look at the Moog Bass Murf. Not cheap, but it has tap tempo & I've found it quite a box of tricks. If you're near Perth, you're welcome to meet up one Wednesday night.

I made a video of it, but I never really used the tremolo side in it, though I do use it for tremolo on a song now.

About 3:52 has a little tremolo & also @ 11:18 I use the LFO as a tremolo.

That's a really good rotary speaker sound - lots of pedals claim to do it but never sound very authentic.
I love tremolo on both guitar & bass.

I do like that rotary effect, but am not really looking for that sound at the moment. I think it would probably be like stepping on our keyboard/organ player's toes a bit. :P

Can I ask what you guys use your tremolos for? Music style? Certain songs?

Still experimenting with mine. I wanted something that could go to the extreme, choppy style, but at the moment I'm mostly using it on a much milder rotary-esque setting (love Led Zep's Heartbreaker bass tone...).

I only use tremolo on skinny-string, for which my choice is the Danelectro Cool Cat Tremolo: metal housing, 3PDT true bypass, lovely opto-based circuit, control knobs safely out of the way of my stomping size 11s, 'hard' mode gives you on/off effect - expect to pay around £30 used.

I was listening to Guthrie Govan (yeah I know, he's a guitarist! :o) playing through one of these, and it sounded pretty nice, not cheap though:

After a lot of Googling and YouTubing I finally ordered the Starla tremolo by Dawner Prince Effects (http://www.dawnerprince.com/products/Starla) ... lots of functions in a small-ish pedal, and both build and sound quality looks good from the few videos and forum discussions I've found. Can't wait to play with it.
