Unless your instrument is being thrown in a truck by roadies or in a cargo cabin of a plane, I see no reason to use a hard case. That's one less hand you have to get your gear in and out of the gig in one shot.

You've never had the drummer put your basses in the van have you?

It cost me a few quid to have my Sei repaired when I managed to let go of the handle of the soft case and dropped it from a height of probably less than a foot. It goes in a hard case now.

Ha, no way. No one touches my instrument but me. I also put it back in the case in between every set. That's why after years of gigging my basses don't have a mark on them.

I have to take the strap off as the Schaller locks won't fit. However, the inside of my case is as follows:

Contents:
Bass
Strap
Head
Tuner
PSU
Kettle lead
Jack leads
Screwdrivers
Allen keys
Earplugs
Dampening sponge
Spare strings (under the head)
Capo
Bass scales/chords book
Emergency beers

And I believe that's everything.

EDIT: just noticed, set of headphones, USB and 1/8" lead for the TC

You definitely get the 'coolest bass case' prize - but what's with the capo? Do you use it much?

For playing, never. It comes in handy if I add a shim, just to keep strings in the nut slots when removing the neck, or if I'm swapping my necks over.

With my Ibanez SR Prestige hard-case (obviously specific to the SR bass itself) it won't shut with a strap on. And strap locks would mean that taking it on and off is a doddle, but the standard Schaller strap lock screws don't fit into the Ibanez holes... :(

Matchsticks! (Pop one or two in the whole, cut of the excess and screw the schaller in) A lot of people add some glue too but i've never needed to. Either that or get some Dunlops instead.
