i was having a bit of a jam tonight.. and at the end this track was playing across the speakers.... i personally think its the perfect pop song... it has the best pop voice of its day, he fused it with pop funk, its got the best musicians of its day.... and it makes you want to dance, and it sold millions... ok this was a while ago.. but i cant think of any track in the last 20 + years that can top it for pure pop greatness .. or pure talent... do you have favorite pop classic..??

he really did know how to make a killer track... imo...

We do a cover of this which never does it justice. Its a good track but TBH not one of my favourites. Its a bit too robotic to be truly funky and the fat bass synth sound is a bit of a grind after a while. The composition is great - just wish that it was played with some more "traditional" sounding instruments.

I wouldn't call it robotic...I think it really grooves and that the synth bass(with electric bass in the
bridge) sounds perfect for the track. It's one of my favourite lines to play on synth.

When you say 'traditional' instruments....what,like double bass, banjo, acoustic guitar? :P
i think the overall impression he has is that it sounds electronic.. and i agree with him, but look a little deeper and it has more... but all said and done.... i know what you mean Bottom E...but i think it gets the job done, of a classic pop song very well..

Hmmm... not wild about MJ re. 'Pop' as you had to call him 'King of Pop' contractually. I'd rather make up my own mind thanks. Record company/Simon Cowell 'must likes' fry my head.

That said, enjoyed 'Human Nature'... but the Miles version here - mostly because of the insane build-up and then tension release in Kenny Garret's sax solo resulting in him exploding at about 8:30: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jkKTcG0xuw&list=FLhrqrINoAwxXhLWZ-LEKMSg&index=67&feature=plpp_video

Remember seeing Miles at the festival hall a few years ago,
when he did 'Human Nature' and 'Time after Time'.
A gig that was just something else, with Darryl Jones on Bass, John Scofield and Bob Berg.

Everytime I hear PYT I remember this thing which happened yéars ago..
I was working at a big firm which constructed helicopters etc and my boss was an American here in Belgium.
We always listened to the American Forces Network and they played this song PYT a lot.. Me and my boss (who was at the other corner of the room at his desk) had a habit of shouting out the "Ooh" part very loudly, no matter what happened.
At a certain moment he was in a big meeting with some really important Japanese people and they were in this big transaction-discussion. Suddenly PYT was played on the radio and I was in big doubt : should I yell "Ooh" or not ?
I decided to take the risk and to my surprise my boss turned away from the discussion and shared my "Ooh".
Brings up memories every time I hear this song...

A favourite pop song? I would really struggle to get it down to one. Some I am fond of (but would neve claim them as the greatest etc....)

PYT is a great Jackson tune. It's perfect for pop - whether its the perfect pop tune is just down to personal taste.

The ultimate self indulgent writing [Music] and arranging of Pop for me was this. it was the 60's over the top at it's best.
But my god why did Jimmy Webb not hire a singer ?
And a Lyricist i suppose.

I find it strangely soulless actually. Didn't do much for me I'm afraid. Well crafted pop song you say? check this one out (OK it sounds dated but PYT does in its own way too);

I was at that gig as well. Nearly everything has has paled beside it. I have never witnessed such a groove.
