I've used my Sandberg basic for everything, pop, rock, funk, soul, motown, ska, country, blues. And it works with all of them, and I barely tweak the EQ, it just sounds great.

There is a video review of some bass tested by Paul Turner, he said he liked it that much during testing that he played it in the Jamiroquai set that night. To me that says that the bass' sound is irrelevant (I am putting my shields up for the bombardment!). If it sounds good it will work, it didn't matter if Turner used a jazz, or a sting ray, or a warwick no one is really going to notice that much are they? Go for it, after all the bass won't be played on its own in a band will it?

True say, I play my basic in a pop-punk-alt band, sounds mint

Judging by the 'artists' on the web site using Sandbergs, would it be true to say the brand seems to fall into the heavy rock genre. I'm trying to play in a more sort of Jeff Berlin / Scott Devine / Jaco style ....obviously, any style can be played on any bass, but do you know what I mean?...

P Basses/Rickys fall in into this rock area whereas as say a Jazz bass is more sort of funk/ jazzy if that makes sense. Image matters!!!

MarloweDK plays Sandbergs - indeed, has his own signature model - and he definitely got da funk!

Had a few Sandbergs in my time, all absolutely brillaint, rock solid basses. This was my favourite...

Had a couple of Clovers too, if you like Sandbergs, you'll love Clovers although do seem to be a bit more expensive and harder to find. Same pups, preamp, hardware, build quality.

I don't remember if i posted mine here so here it is (again?):

Sandberg California VM-5, tobacco burst / black PG / vintage tinted maple neck:

and a video on our last bass bash, if i recal correctly it was plugged on to a REDDI and using the powerstage of a Glockenklang through a Glock 3-way cab:

(not me playing it, thank god it was somebody who actually knows how to play a proper bass line ;) )

Cheers

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that before (VM-5's are not common) but I don't mind seeing it again :)

Ahh, i really had the impression i've posted the pics before but couldn't find the post. Anyway this time you get the video to get an idea of it's sound. I may say it made a very good impression when compared to the Fodera that was played after ;)

Bought this Sandberg 5 Custom here on bass.chat and still very pleased with it.. had Wal, Ken Smith, F bass in the past but this one easily reaches the same level of craftsmanship for a much lower price..

WOW! Nice. Let me know if you want to sell. ..... :D

Wasn't it you who had the California TM2 with rarewood top? If so, how does the custom compare?

They are pretty similar actually.. the 5 sounds a bit "beafier" but the controls deliver the same crisp sound as my 4-string.
Price/quality Sandberg gives the best there is imo.. Used them in all sorts of bands and they get the sound across..
That mid-boost makes sure you get the bass sound you want in any lousy sound situation.
I sold my Wal bass and I thought I would regret it but I can get pretty much that same "nosy" sound from these basses..
This is my 4 string (you've got a good memory :-))

Yeah, I always remember that pic of you biting it!

How does the neck feel on the custom? I know your tm2 is a 4 so it's not a fair comparison, but I would imagine the custom feels a little finger and flatter across the back.

Damn it, got gas for a custom now! :D

The neck is actually a bit thick but I've got big hands so that's not really a problem.. I'm not used to playing five string anymore so I have some problem picking it up actually but every now and then I need a 5 for certain situations so I bought this one and I'm getting used to 5 a bit more..
Recorded this clip this morning to give an idea.. not the best sound through my recording device but it beats writing about it.
