I like Chromes. They have a nice presence to them and they aren't totally thumpy when broken in. I guess you could liken them to some dirty, old nickel-rounds except with far less string/finger noise and more warmth.

It's also not a 60s reissue.

I can't remember the name of the series but I believe there were some early-mid 90s Jazzes that had slimmer bodies than usual and 22 frets (similar the the US deluxes of the mid-late 90s).

Not intended as an attack, more like an opinion that I typed out before thinking it through. For the sake of BC I'll shut my mouth on the topic but a part of me would love for him to chase me up on it.

John Hall is a pig. I prefer to think of the factory workers and CNC machines when I enjoy my 4003 and keep that arrogant asshat from my thoughts as much as possible.

I could mount it down the back of the mini but I don't really like to put strain on the George Ls (a poorly made one crapped out on me at a gig YEARS ago and I've been paranoid of them losing connection ever since). I can get the TFR to work for my current groups but I definitely prefer the BB as everything I'm playing is too polite to warrant some mean-ass fuzz.

Aguilar got back to me. They're going to look into it and get in touch on Tuesday due to the long weekend. Unfortunately I can't mount the Thumpinator underneath as there's not enough clearance from the floor but it could be fixed if I put some big feet on it.

I'd got for the BB. The Phat Phuk is good but the BB is more versatile, can get pretty phat and do that Jack Bruce thing with the gain up and treble rolled back a bit.

I've emailed Aguilar to ask if the Tone Hammer 500 has a HPF. I'm going to do a gig tonight without tweeters and see if I can get it to work in the mix. Nice board, Kev! I must say it'd be nice to have a Phat Phuk again. Such a lovely, warm sounding pedal but I found I could get an approximate sound with a BB pre so I figured that would take its place.

It's hard to say. I guess it's down to personal preference and equipment. I tried running an active Fender through my equipment and noticed a very slight treble roll off. Noticed it more with a passive. I'd say it's healthy to have at least one buffer on a board. With an active bass it's not as important but if you had only passives I'd definitely put one in the chain. The B7K has to have a buffered bypass in order for the DI to work when the pedal's disengaged apparently.

In fact, after toying with the idea I would happily not post pictures of my Ric on this board ever again, even if it's just to prove a point to Mr. Hall. Go for the full ban I say.

Ah right, I thought it was a question of whether or not it changes the tone while performing its function. I did notice with my live rig my cabs seem to sound a bit tighter in the lows and I don't have to push my amps quite as hard.

I like my 4003. It's not as nice to play as my Fenders or MM and it has a mid-range focused sound that can be a pain to EQ but I love its vibe. The attitude of John Hall has certainly poisoned my opinion of Rickenbacker over the years. I was banned from their forums for saying that I find John Hall's methods questionable on TALKBASS which goes to show the mentality of "you're with us or against us". Whenever I see crap like this crop up I'm always tempted to sell the Rick.
