I thought his playing was far from clean and accurate, not to mention a million miles from musical. Marcus is of course a supreme funker and exudes soul from his playing, however Josh I think you're wrong about Victor; I think it's a common perception if all you do is see him on internet sites like Youtube doing the flashy stuff, but go and see him live (as I was lucky enough to do in Glasgow earlier this year) and you'll realise he is the master musician with absolute monster groove.
I never said a bad thing about Wooten's sense of Groove man, his is second to none and I have greatly enjoyed the videos of him when he is just holding the groove, it's just that sometimes when he solos he tends to over uses Double Thumbing and comes across as a noise but when he is holding a groove with Double Thumbing it sounds great and Wooten is one with the groove. I was just addressing his use of Double Thumbing isn't to everyones taste, never questioned his abilities at holding a groove
 2.
After seeing a few Woot vids,I have to agree, though Its actually Bill Dickens thats made me try it. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kyUCOeUTM7E It is a bit mental. this is tasty,What cant all slappers be this tasteful. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NHdN_O5k3WM&...ted&search=
Miller to me is the essential slap bassist, easily. He has so much soul running through all of his grooves and his playing is just so clean and your hooked on each note, and he's also educated very throughly in Jazz and utilises that knowledge to come up with some great licks. Opposed to King, Wooten, Flea (Who?...), and all the other well-known slappers, Miller will always be the one I will be amazed by, simply because he never over indulges and plays for the song each time.
 3. I've finally got the hang of it, I just went ahead and tried after I saw this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DDuK6nmdAB8 Oddly enough I've seen all the other videos for Double Thumbing and they never helped, but that little 19 sec clip made everything easier and I'm getting quite familiar with how it works but I won't over indulge my self with it. And also just a side note I prefer Miller's soulful appraoch as opposed to Wooten's at times OTT use of Double Thumbing.
 4.
I have known for at least the past year the huge finanicial problems they have. I know the Bristol SC's manager and a freind of his. Basically yes your all correct, SC has expanded too quickly and failed to realise that unlike supermarkets who get loans to expand where 100% of the population needs food. Music shops are unfortunatly not the same less then 1% of the population are musicians, They took loan after loan and bought out a number of companys and they just cant pay back their debts. We thought they would have gone tits up last summer but have somehow managed to hang in there. The Bristol one is usually quite busy And with relatively good salesman (The reason i say salesman is because they only hire based on how well you can sell a product, Not how much you know about it). Expect a decent sale at somepoint.
The Bristol SC has Ben Baptie (Quite tall and with Dreads), he will make you cry just looking at him, but actually is so helpful and is genuinely interested in helping and he is a damn good musician allbeit a guitarist, he know's enough about basses to sell them better than the guy who's supposed to be in charge of the bass section who has a nasty habbit of tuning the basses in Drop C.
 5. They all look like some kind of crushed piece of fruit, but sound suprisingly good.
 6. The only thing I think of when I look at that is Mr. Zender!
 7. Bass: Ryan Martinie or Dirk Lance Drums: Stewart Copeland Guitar: Not too sure to be honest... Vox: Brandon Boyd It would be a rather interesting mix of genres but at the middle of it all they are slaves to the groove, the rhythm section that is, Brandons just the tightest singer live.
 8. And the new single is a semi-cover as well, and has Patrick Stump singing again.
 9. Just stumbled across these 2 videos on the 'tube: Part 1: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MhWPZWCImxo Part 2: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KazZykV24-k&...ted&search= Alot more bassists compared to the Bass Day 2006 version, and some players I'm un-familiar with but anyhoo enjoy!
Did u end up with Chris or Jules ? .....didn't wanna stay at Bridgy! ...other work came up with less red tape involved... (& better dosh!) Good to hear u lovin' the groove!.... "everythang is on the ONE!" .... u knows it make sense! let us know of any gigs u doin', dude...
Had Jules in the end so it was mildly bareable, if I was given Chris as I told you I just would walk out of his lesson. It sucked that you didn't coem back, I had told all the enw bassists coming on the course to look foward to having lessons with you and for us to find out you weren't coming back did russtle some feathers. "...Ain't nothing but a party baby" got to love Bootsy! And when I eventually find the band I'm after and we ever get gigging then you'll be one of the first to know man!
hi josh!..... how r u getting on?
Better than ever man! And trust me on this one, I'm not the bassist I was when you were teaching me, I'm basically a slave to the groove which was and is your main principle and it influenced me big time, and since you last saw me I've gone at least 3 high end basses which have all taken my playing further and since getting my Warwick I feel so comfortable in the pocket! But I'll say this, it would've been nice to have a Bassist teach me Grade 8 bass
A student of mine has this wem bass..... anyone ever seen one before?.... got any info ? sorry the pix are a bit sh*te!
All I'll say is Coxxy!!! And at college it's known as The Oar! But as Dave said it's horrible to play and sounds dreadful, but then again our college equipment dosen't help the matter.
 13. That'll be immense when it's done Mike, and now I can't wai tfor the first video you do with that beast!!
 14. Just saying these basses are worth every penny, they're so versatile yet still retain a natural voice and for me has helped shape my playing for the rest of my playing career! Good luck with the saole Kev!
 15.
I have to agree with the guy that said Mudvayne. Happy? has been pretty inspirational for me and Rage against the Machine songs such as Killing in the Name and Bombtrack really get me going. They're simple but I love 'em.
Ryan Martinie makes Mudvayne! Any Mudvayne song will have a bassline that has me salivating and the ones I listed are only a select few.
 16.
How about Jamiriquai's "Runaway" and "Don't give Hate a chance"?
Amen on "Don't give Hate a chance", worked it out by ear and is so fun to play along with. For me: Redefine, Deep Inside - Incubus Happy?, Not Falling, Nothing to Gein - Mudvayne If I Like it...I Do it, Virtual Insanity, Just another Story - Jamiroquai Skies of the Millenium Night - Sikth Teen Town - Weather Report Probally countless others but they are the main ones that do make me go "Ooo errr" everytime I listen to them.
 17. Anything by Lemmy purely because they're mostly the same, and also the bassist of In Flames abuses the open B string for every song, gets a tad bit tiring.
 18.
I can: http://www.dailymotion.com/related/2787458...om-abbey-road/1
Good ol' PT but I guess man I'm just not a P-Bass man, I love jazzes though, but precisions just feel lifeless to me and sound it at times.
 19. Precisions as well, I tried one and just couldn't get comfortable, the positioning of the p'up was nasty and the tone was just as bad, they're far to large, heavy and I can respect the precision was the father of all basses but I just couldnt see what the fuss is.
 20. Lovely Thumb and Streamer man!
 21. Your using the right amount of force for the pops but you seem to be using at least 3 fingers when you pop on the G-string but you'll develop individual finger strength soon enough, it is now just a case of putting into practice what everybody has contributed in this thread but don't feel like any of us are pressuring you, it'll take time and you'll grow to love the sound of a metronome but it will ultimtaley pay off, and as suggested previously a good idea Parker man would be to video yourself ina few months on depending on the amount of time you spend practicing.
 22.
Thanks guys, your all awesome I was expecting to be flamed but your all giving constructive advice. I'll record something with pops, it will be easier for you too see where i need to work on. Thanks again, Parker
Were here to help man! Also its a smart move on asking on here for help becuase I've seen people put up videos of them playing asking for help on youtube and it usually backfires.
 23.
I have to disagree with this point - you do not need to slap hard to get a good tone. This depends on the action of your bass - I find a nice low action and slapping over the heel of the neck gives me the best tone, but some, like Larry Graham, play nearer the bridge when slapping and thus the tone is slightly different. If you have a high action then yes, you would probably need to play harder to get a good slap tone, but a nice low action means you dont need to hammer the living daylights out of your strings. And if it hurts, its not doing you any favours - you may get some sore/tender bits on the side of your thumb until the calous develops, but if you experience pain in your arm, STOP - you could be doing more harm than good. If you can, check out Ped's playing - hes a dirty slapper and he plays with a very low, slick action and doesnt hit the strings hard at all. Let the Volume do the work!
Well I don't mean destroy your thumbs in the process, for instance Mark King is a hard hitter and has a very low action, I've played on Status and Jaydee basses set up to his exact spec (yes the owner is a bit of a fan) and when slapping with some extra force you get more bounce and the right feel and tone, for instance the slap groove in Hot Water as simple as it is is appraoched quite strongly to accent the bass drum beats and the snare shots as well. But as I said man were all different players and we all approach stuff technique and what not differently, and by all means you are correct if it hurts then stop and just leave it for a day, but I did say in my post that you'll get use to it which is basically my way of saying blisters and callouses will form eventually.
 24. 2 very similar posts I must say!
