1. But unfortunatley Sitkh are no longer together as a band so we can't get giddy over the thought of a new album And thanks to Gamble for mentioning AAF because Tye Zamora is heavily underrated between bass players, but if you can manage to see past the joke-like appearance of their videos and the song themes, listen to Tye's playing and tone and then you can hear he is a greatly talented player with a great melodic sense and feel for groove, also he is a great entertainer which I think alot of bass players lack, dare I say he's like The Rock of bassists. And luckily the original line up has just reunited aswell so hopefully theres a new album is in the works. As far as Martinie goes, Gambles right each album got less and less Technical but Ryan's tone seemingly just got better and better and his playing grew more tasteful IMO and he is one of the main influences alongside Dirk Lance on my style and I'm waiting on the new Mudvayne album as Dullboy was a good taster to see how his playing has changed further more.
2. For me I'm simply going to take 2 Warwicks and a Eden combo and leave the complete rig at home, simple, oh and about £15,000 to be safe.
3. Easy.... A Hetfield fan boy I be.
4. Am I right in saying that the first one is the exact same as Cliff's besides the black hardware? Looks pretty sweet with all black hardware man!
5. The same bass on the CS gallery, with all the specs. I love Warwick, no doubt, but I can't for one see nor hear the fuss about $$'s, having owned one as well, ah well horses for courses.
6.
Well, I may be misunderstood for this, but I'll try at least.. When I think of Basschat, I simply know that people love Fender's, a words called groove and jazz, Jamerson and so much other thingies, but..
You forgot Shukers aswell
7. That blows every Shuker I've seen out of the water. Absolutley stunning Mike!
8. Maybe because your playing the wrong way round
9.
lol That was a cracking amp, sounded huge with the 4x12". I think the Epifani and Aguilar comination I have now quench any amp regrets or GAS I may have....
It looks quite insignificant sat on the far side of my room glaring at the Eden rig
10.
This is the only bass I wish I still had.
But are you missing the Profet 4 now thats the question Mike
11. Ryan Martinie - Mudvayne Sam Rivers - Limp Bizkit Dirk Lance - Incubus (Incidentally, Dirk was the person who introduced Sam Rivers to Warwick basse's) Stuart Zender - Jamiroquai Tye Zamora - Alien Ant Farm Arif Mirabdolbaghi - Portest The Hero And a few who are not greatly known but are huge on the American Gospel scene and are a bigger influence on me than some of the ones listed above: Dwayne Wright Justin Raines Thurman "Peanut" Woods John King Maruice Fitzgerald Apart from the religous jargon I think Gospel Bass Players are by far some of the best around, and pretty much all of them use Ken Smiths!
12. 1. Bernard Edwards - Chic (Think most of us will agree on that) 2. Bootsy Collins - Bootsy Collins Rubber Band 3. Jaco Pastorius - Weather Report and of course his own solo stuff. 4. Louis Johnson - The Brothers Johnson 5. Larry Graham or Stanley Clarke - Sly & The Family Stone/Graham Central Station, and Clarke was with Return to Forever. To be honest for most if not all of the guys listed above, the 70's was their pinnacle.
13. Anything by Michael Manring, I doubt that there are many covers of his stuff, it's far too unique and just flows out of him.

17. Heavy but uber nifty: First amp of 2, a full Ampeg rig will join it soon.
18.
NOT REALLY!!!!!!! This is what gets right up my nose sometimes. I ask a simple question, and I get the p*ss taken! All I see is some Black Guy playing some sort of Fender Bass. Thanks for the help guys!
It's Marcus Miller man.

My Babies!

Ahhhh the V940, great sounding value bass around, easily.
20. A Streamer Stage II could be your answer, they are much more suited for bridge pick up enthusiasts and due to the use of different body woods as opposed to the Thumb's they have a much more jazz like growl but with that combined Warwick growl and low's so really you do get that perfect growl, IMO that is. No other W's come close to the SSII's growl, only the Thumb NT does (Not even Thumb BO's, mine lacks growl if anything, as doe's my Stage 1) but still holding it's own unique growl as you well know. And they look brilliant as well: SSII And here's a perfect example of an SSII, both finger style and slap: Incubus Only a few months 'til I get mine as well!
21.
Got it home - its solid maple wings and has an earlier serial than the natural oil one, on the Sound Control label on the backplate it says "SPECTOR EURO 5 GREEN STAIN LX" I've taken a pic of the control cavity. it looks exactly the same as the other one inside. from my blurry picture, can anyone tell me which pre amp it is? it's a superb bass. cheers
A Spector Tone pump it is! Otherwise it would have Agular OB-1 written on it
22. Hmmm Dave am I right in saying that Gilly is really known as Will Tottle, if so then I have played this bass both before and after the re-fin and I must admit they're quite unique basses and nailed the King tone down to a tee, though at the time I was use to a smaller bodied Spector I actually felt quite comfortable playing it, I can see why you regretted letting it go man And also Will is an absolute legend, and he also let me have a go on his King Bass a good while ago which was stunning, do you mind if I ask what he's moved on to Dave??
23.
I was up at Sound Control Glasgow city centre this morning putting a guitar into Jimmy Egypt for repair. With that done I walked the few yards to the bass dept and hey presto! they had a couple of specials on Spector basses today with a further 10% knocked off. I therefore couldn't resist a new thru neck Euro 5 maple top in a green stain high gloss finish (would have loved black cherry but it was at least a couple of hundred more).I paid a deposit on it today and pick it up Tuesday.Paul the bass guy was trying to get me a gig bag too till his supvr no-no'd that one. do they come with Spector bags? I'm not sure whether its an LX (no green stain listed on their website) or an older one.probably an ex demo that didnt shift on account of the colour as it was maple front and back and I couldnt see any laminate lines on the side,I didnt ask whether it was a tone pump circuit,I didnt even have time to plug it in as I was meeting the other half and didnt want her coming in downstairs and me buying another Spector lol... it was spotless and played fantastic acoustically which was enough to seal the deal....just cant wait to get it home now. anyone got an idea about which version it is exactly? btw never really knew what to think of buck-eye burled/spalted tops till I saw a couple today - they were absolutely gorgeous and stood out a mile.
Sounds like you got yourself a normal Spector Euro, LX's are in a natural finish, and it most likely has the tonepump as opposed to ob-1 pre-amp, t's just a case of having a look in the nest. Enjoy it man but a head's up on the TP, it's a beast that needs taming but other than that they're great basses and I can't wait to get another one.
24.
i don't think it's really the fact that you like people with good technique it's just the fact that you seem to hate anyone who has "bad" technique even if they sound awsome. I'm not having a go i'm just saying maybe that's how some see it. Any way let's face it you can name ANYTHING and it will be bad in some people's eyes.
I don't recall saying I hate anyone with incorrect technique, I'm just not that interested in the player if they dont show anything(Technique being one of those) in their playing that appeals to me, but I still appreciate what they are doing. Trust me some of the guys on here would not be interested in my playing at all simply because I play Warwick basses or I might not demonstrate what they prefer to see in their bass players, I experienced that first hand at college. But your right anything seen as "Good" in one persons view is definetly going to be seen as "Bad" in the other, and that will always be the case.
25.
So what happens if, say you've only heard a bass player on a record, and he's super awesome and inspirational; then you see him live after listening to his lines every day for five years, and he has 'inefficient' / 'unattractive' technique. Does your opinion of him go down? Not having a go or nuffink, I'm genuinely interested. I'm a big fan of shambolic music, indie stuff that sounds ragtag and as if it's about to fall apart at any moment. I don't much like videos of perfect technical proficiency etc. Just wondering how the other half lives...
A bit of a hard question to answer, most if not all the bassist's who I listen to and draw inspiration from, I have seen in certain capacities, such as live and recording. But as you said, your not one for Technical Proficency, that's what hooks you in to a bass player or drummer or whoever. Whereas I like to see good examples of good technique to thus inspire me to further perfect my own technique, I can't see how thats wrong in some peoples eyes.
