Inspiring as always Mike!

1. Ryan Martinie - Alongside Leech, in Metal music he is by far the best. 2. Jaco Pastorius - No Explanation needed. 3. Marcus Miller - The best kind of slap out there. 4. Jimmy Haslip - Flawless, just the left-handedness will always make my lip twitch. 5. Victor Bailey - Knows his theory and a solid player.

Hmmm am I the only one with TP4x10 who thinks it's actually good?, I can't see why everyone dismisses them so quickly, sure they are cheaper and not made of the same stuff but to me my cab sounds lovely and punchy thanks to the aluminium cones which are the same in the XL series. 've doen a good amount of gigs with the cab since I got it and it's gotten good praise from other bassists who know they're stuff and as much as I hate and loathe my Warwick head adding the cab made the head sound better and it really helped me get that punch I was looking for and since getting my jazz its brought out the best in the cab I think. They get frowned on alot and I guess some guys have had bad experiences such as they break to easily or other assorted problems but mines done nothing besides help me find my own voice really, and when I eventually get the HA3500 I know that it will just be smooth and punchy as anything, I guess I might just be lucky and have actually gotten a decent or subsequently someones going to think I know nothing but ah well until I can afford Ampeg etc.. I'm happy with it, just not the head
My personal approach is to take each day as it comes with my playing - some days I'll amaze myself, others I'll put the bass down in disgust - for me playing is all about mind set, energy level, being in the mood and responding to my surroundings - I can turn up at band practice and feel awful after a long day at work, only to leave feeling 'centred' and happy again having played some good music with my band. I've said to myself and other people asking advice that you must look at your playing and development over a long period of time. Nothing of any value comes in an instant - maybe a lottery win does - but the reality is anything that is really worth achieving takes a long time to develop but ultimately the rewards are much greater if you really work at your 'art' as the end result will have far greater depth than something that is just a quick fix... I've certainly got obsessed with too much technique in the past but now I'm much more interested in the 'musical' content of what I'm playing as opposed to how fast I can play. Striving to improve the choice of notes I play and how I select them, and writing songs as well, is what I'm working on now, song structure and arrangement are what I'm also interested in. I know that I can improve every area of my playing so I continue to try and do this slowly but surely. The ultimate goal for me though is still being able to interact and communicate with other musicians more effectively - my favourite thing in the world is playing a great groove with a great drummer - and making the whole song and band come alive because of the way the foundation of the sound is working. I just think try and be yourself - not anyone else - play what you like to play and get as good as you can at it - keep an open mind but just do your thing, the only person you should really try and please if yourself - and if you think you need to practice some more then go and do it - if you don't, don't - it's really up to you. Mike
Amen. Especially the bit on days when your playing can amaze you and then the next day, can make you feel awful from just picking your bass up. but I ultimatley agree in that surroundings and life experience will shape the player you will become in the end, and it's a process which is on going throughout your playing life.

Jamie man the second one has a mix which is almost the same as DOADD, sounds damn professional and a tad bit on the beefy side of things as well! It Sucks you guys split man.
-
Thanks guys, it's just that P-Bass tone is so prominent that I instantly thought Jamerson, but he has been noted for playing with Curtis Mayfield but I can't find anything else.
-
Hey all, Just wondering, I've been lsitening to "Move on Up" by Curtis Mayfield and I swear it's Jamerson on bass, or am I wrong??
MB1. Get over it josh!if your male and you like women bass players, and comment on the fact, your a sexist. if you like male bass players, and mention the fact, your george michael??????obviously!
There's a difference man, theres commenting on their playing and then theres commenting on them as an object, which is what has come across in some posts.

Hmmm I've got the same finish on my jazz, it's nicer than the standard colours inst it?
-
The first that appealed to me about Debra Killings is her playing, soulful and funky, and yeah the fact the TRB is almost the size of her but Luke's right it's nice when a female bassist does come along, but we've debated this before on Bassworld haven't we?
I like the idea of a custom THUMB! maybe with special attachments for cooking like a swiss army knife for bass players or a button under the nail to active superfastslap-mode? Disappearing strings sound cool! how about lasers instead of strings like the "light harp" idea? simply wave your hand over the bass and lovely tunes would come out! Mine would be all new hi-tech composites and electronics to disguise the horrible sound properties taht would create. super expensive and sexy looking hitech art gallery nonsense - That's what i want (just after I win the lottery).
Just look at the streamers and thumbs they have in the custom gallery man: http://www.warwick.de/modules/frame/frame....3%26mtpl%3Dinfo -

Hmmm well the dream bass would be a customised Thumb, simple as that really, or a Streamer after seeing some fo the customs they've made on their site. But lately I've been toying greatly with a jazz bass idea which hopefully someday will come to fruition. -
Ahhh a good post thisen! I like to think I'm as passionate as most other bass players but at times I can that perhaps I'm a bit more driven than some, like some of the guys I teach and know, all have different approaches to it all, one of them seems to only practioce when I teach him but I know at the end of the day he's just focused on the band and doing his bit for the band he isn't concerned with being the enxt Wooten or anything really and I respect that, yet on the other hand, the other guy I teach is driven and is still amturing as both a bassist and musician, when I started teaching him he was cocky, arrogant and swore by only 2-3 bassists but within the first week or so of being on the music course he apologised to me and asked for serious help and i like to think with my help I've sent him on a good raod to becoming a damn good bassist, and teaching these guys does make me think that I'm an alright player, lets face facts only a few bassists will actually "Yes I am very good" but I know I can go into a room and play my bass comfortably and use the theory I know to a standard that it can impress people but then again it isn't about amazing or impressing people but it's nice to know when you have. But I know I've got a long way to go before I become the bassist I want to become, I guess its an age thing, being in the bracket of the younger guys on here we have some advantages in Youtube coming along when it did so were exposed to mroe bassists with greater ease than some fo the older guys when back in the 70's and 80's it wasn't always to easy to find out about but thats not say they not benefitting now either. I think I just know being 18 now I have years to come which will bring new basses ,amps, new bassists and all kinds of influences and will ultimatley shape the bassist I become, it's just now I'm midly happy with what I can do and Im sepnding between 2-4 hours day practicing many things and also listening to music in great depth, and I can look back and see where I was and know i have imrpoved and all I can do is improve further, I just think sometimes some people set out to be the next Wooten or Clarke or Miller that they end up becoming a copy and realise they're not really doing anything that hasn't already been done before.
Another vote for Tye Zamora of Alien Ant Farm, if you haven't give these guys a chance then your definitely missing some great basslines/tracks. Check out these songs: Tia Lupé - Latin influenced song with some good fretless playing (good bass fill at about 1:30) Never Meant - Some great use of harmonics S.S Recognise - Some good solid 16th note riffing and a bit of slap towards the end There's loads more I could suggest as this guy is just a great player!
Even the AAF standards everyone knows, such as: Smooth Criminal, Movies, Attitude, These days etc...are all supported heavily with Tye's tone and his groove inspired technique. And also he's damn entertaining in the videos if you pay attention to him.

"Save yourself the cash....go straight for the Thumb Bolt On laugh.gif The Corvette's good but it's a bit like Wilma and Betty, you'd go with Betty but you'd be thinking of Wilma.....(Which 90/80's TV sitcom did that quote come from)"? Red Dwarf of course. Hmmm strangely enough Ken Smiths are starting to appeal to me alot lately, as are MTD's, but otherwise I'm Gas-less for a good while.

Fair enough man thats your opinion, I just enjoy it because Bona has used those licks in a unique way really, it's not groundbreaking but it's an intresting mix of Jaco inspired licks and comedy.
-
I've always enjoyed watching this solo, from 3:22 onwards it gets more intresting, and strangely it sounds quite familiar to the Transformers theme tune, and the harmonising will always make me grin especially when he sighs when he screws up his harmonised fill.
