Hello everyone So I have plan that may or may not work. I've always been a fan of Billy Sheehan's tone and while the most obvious way to get this tone is to go out and buy a Yamaha Attitude I played one a few years ago and it wasn't for me. I picked up a Squier P Bass body from eBay for £20 delivered so the plan is: Dimarzio Will Power or Model One in the neck position Dimarzio Will Power in the middle Then maybe a Jazz Pickup at the bridge (might not be feasible though) Not sure how the pickup selection process would go with 3 pickups without wiring it stereo.... I know this would require a lot of routing and I probably wouldn't do that myself but we'll see how it goes Any advice will be welcome along the way as this is my first full project! Cheers guys
SO basically your keeping just the body. Prob better selling it and buying a new one. Wd parts necks are nice and so are Allparts ones and little less than the Warmoth ones. but your still speaking of 150 quid or more.
Yeah it was just because I like the green colour of the bass but I have just found an old Squier body with P & J rear routing on eBay near me so why not try a refinish as well! Ideally looking for a flamed maple neck but we'll see how it goes price wise.

Hi one and all I want to change the pickup in my Squier Musicmaster. Currently it has one of the small vista tone single coils and I was planning on putting something with a bit more oomph. I've been reading a lot about Darkstar pickups but they appear to more rare than hens teeth so that's out the window. Ideally I'm looking for a BIG single coil or humbucker to put in there. Possibly a Dimarzio model one or willpower? I play a mixture of styles but I want this one to have a bit of old school grit about its tone Any input on this would be great

Hi everyone I was meant to be joining a three piece band with a guy called Jamie Harper who is a well respected musician in the area but sadly my situation has changed and I can longer make the commitment. A replacement is needed ASAP. He's looking to do gigs most weekends in and around Central Scotland. We were looking to do a mix of covers and some of Jamie's own tunes, give his stuff a listen here http://www.jamieharper.moonfruit.com/ If you want any more info get in touch and I'll put you through to the man himself! Thanks for looking Michael

I highly doubt he has to 'resort' to this. I imagine he designed them due to demand rather than necessity. Players love J basses due to their heritage but just want to change some things from the original that you can't do yourself i.e. neck radius or body wood.

Just wondering if anyone has tried one of Alan's shiny new J Types? http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Available/21/ Look very nice and very possibly a future investment for me. Cheers Michael

Just having a wee nosey on the Bay of e and found this sitting quite cheap and with not much time left http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hohner-Professional-The-Jack-4-String-Headless-bass-guitar-/260982753531?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3cc3c8c8fb#ht_693wt_932 Think it's quite a looker and for £150 (£170 including shipping) wouldn't be a bad price Anybody think it's it worth that? Might bid for it myself actually haha

Snarling Dogs Bootzilla Bass Wah Repairs
BassApprentice replied to BassApprentice's topic in Repairs and Technical
Got this for the Snarling dogs 'wonder wah' - I would presume that the 'wah' circuit is based around the same idea, but with a couple of capacitor alterations to allow for more low end... http://i69.photobuck.../SD-WW-Pg-2.jpg Sorry, I haven't got anything else at the moment.
Ahhh cheers mate! I'll have a look and see what I can rustle up with this new info. Gonna give the manufacturers a call see if they can shed some more light on this Thanks again -
This, in spades. I'm a terminal fiddler these days, and that's what I'd do. Then there's different strings you can experiment with...

or price of selling bass plus price or upgrades... is there anything secondhand at that price that wpuld do what you wanted better
@ Muzz yeah from what I've read/heard switching to such bridges as the Badass II makes a huge difference to almost any P or J bass so that is definitely one of the first things that will be bought. @ LukeFRC Possibly, but I have my G&L that does everything an more This is definitely more of a learning experience for me of how to change pickups and setting up a bass with a new bridge etc.
Why? what are you wanting to achieve with the preamp? (and can you fit a battery in?) My suggestion.... buy a external preamp in a pedal. that way you have the same control but don't have to mod your bass (and can resell easier if it doesn't work out) Actually I think if I had the bass you do and some money I would go more the line of... high mass bridge (fitted one to same model and it brought the sound alive in a way I didn't expect it to) new pickups (wizard for value, nordstand if I had the money, EMG if I liked that kind of tone) and maybe tuners or nut if it needed one, prob not.

Be sure that you love the Squier before you start going down that route Michael, as preamp upgrades aren't generally cheap and fitting something like you have suggested will cost almost as much as the bass is worth... and it won't mean that the bass will be worth significantly more with it fitted!
Thanks guys for your help! The reason I was wanting to do this was to try something new. I've never upgraded something before but I can see where you are both coming from. I was kind of planning to do a minor overhaul on this bass, the bridge and the pickups were very near the top of that list but the preamp question was just to see what people more experienced than myself thought. The routing for a preamp would be a very big commitment. I might put the preamp idea on the backburner and focus on things that can be changed more easily for now Cheers
