From my experience, Vintage basses are very well put together and the Wilkinson parts they use are well thought of around here. I wouldn't go replacing the electronics unless they really aren't giving you the sound you want, but at the end of the day it is your bass and you can do whatever you please Happy modding!

Just saw this on Facebook. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1285909174793584&substory_index=0&id=812596638791509 Unless he finds a buyer looks like another bass shop will disappear by this time next year Real shame but his reason is completely understandable. Anyone want to chip in to buy it?

Depending on your budget, this might be a good place to start. Around £776 on all your reputable online retailers http://intl.fender.c...-olympic-white/

If this ad is genuine, then it's a proper bargain! BB1024 for £400 in Yorkshire, Goole to be specific. If it was a 5er I'd have it.....Still very tempted, would match my L2000 very nicely https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/yamaha-bb1024-bass-guitar-/1197903305

Interesting because on his Reddit AMA (10 months ago) he said that uses old Roundwounds on his J. He does use another bass with Thomastik flatwounds on it though Look for a post from BeowulfShatner on the AMA and he lists what he uses. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bass/comments/3x9fmv/ama_hi_im_joe_dart_bassist_in_vulfpeck_ask_me/
whats with these comments? whoever bought the bass can do whatever they want with it. if they think they can sell it for a profit then good luck to them. the seller got rid of something they didnt want for a price dictated by the marketplace and the chosen selling method.
For me it's because the original auction of the item was for charity. I would normally have no problem as, like you rightly say, the seller got what they wanted and the buyer can do what they like. Just feels a bit off making money where a charity could make more. But that's the way of the world.

Shortscale and sparkly. On a budget. By a Beginner

Regarding stripping the paint. I did it recently using Nitro Mors (other brands are available) scraped that off then sanded off the stubborn bits. I think it worked well and protected the body underneath (mostly, it did melt the plastic binding....). Good luck, getting in to modding and building is a slippery slope. I keep thinking what I can mod on my basses rather than actually playing them! -
Only 1. A blue Yamaha SBV500. Was set up perfectly, as in when I received it all the tuning pegs were in a straight line. While it did fund a G&L they seem to be worth nearly 3 times what I sold mine for.....Anyone want to sell me one??

Gorgeous walnut/maple jazz on Gumtree
If it's got proper routing for the neck pickup - none. If not, probably black would work best.
I have a feeling I've looked before and I don't think the routing isn't suitable for no pickguard. Just did a quick mock up and black doesn't look bad at all. -

Just out of interest what colour pickguard would look better? I've been thinking about it for a while but can't think of what to change it to.... -
Gorgeous walnut/maple jazz on Gumtree

Interesting.... I have a Fretless version of this. Same brand. Different headstock and control knobs, I think I paid £50 for mine with a more traditional shape headstock. Not a bad bass overall but I'm not sure whether it's walnut/maple or a veneer. -

If you are up for a project and near Sheffield this might scratch the itch.... https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/sg-bass-project-mahogany-hand-made/1194600527 I know I'm not helping -
Afternoon all, NOT MINE FOR SALE Found this on Gumtree in Vale of Glamorgan. A bit bashed up but still £350 for an export colour Aerodyne Jazz Bass isn't bad. They aren't going to get any cheaper that's for sure. https://www.gumtree....bass/1192701589

So...it appears I have damaged all 4 of the drivers Not really sure how but that's the case. Synergy are waiting on replacements to come in from the US. Hopefully I get a fully functioning amp back soon and fingers crossed the repair bill doesn't make me
I have a bigman in my Alpher see my avi, awesome pickup were you adding a preamp as well?
That's a real looker!! If it's not too much hassle could you tell me how far the pickup is from the bridge? It looks to be in a similar position as the routing on this body. Yup, I think a preamp is pretty much essential for this pickup. Would probably be a Nordy just for consistency...What do you have in yours?
-
Sorry this has been so quiet, as I'm sure many of you know life just gets in the way. I have a plan to make it a single pickup and put a Nordstrand Bigman in the bridge position, but I'm not sure it's close enough to the bridge to get a good Musicman growl. Anyone got a Bigman in their bass or proivde a recommendation for a MM style pickup in this location? Cheers
Was in a guitar shop in Ayr that had an M & an L series Tribute in and tried the M, which was fine but despite what others say about the Tribs being as good as the US ones I still prefer my US
How long ago was this? Also which guitar shop? I'm in the market for a 5 string G&L and would be great to try one before hand! Didn't think many places in Scotland would carry G&L

Why did you choose your luthier?
Are "Luther built" basses any better than those produced by larger manufacturers? I wouldn't necessarily expect a guy in a backstreet garage to build a better car than a well known manuacturer in a multimillion pound factory.
Oh that's a can of worms opened right there. The only way that statement is reasonable is if you are looking at accuracy, even then that's insulting to the people who dedicated hours to making sure the instruments are as close to perfect as possible. A single person or small group with limited resources may not be as accurate as a highly expensive CNC machine when it comes to cutting very small margins. Otherwise the amount of care and dedication put into these instruments will always outweigh a model that's been churned out in its thousands for me.
