1. Home studios, mmmmmmmmmmm, here is mine, its amazing what you can fit in a small space when you plan it. i love the old mackie D8B digi desk and hdr24, they have been just great and al prob use them till they fall to bits. ( which might not be long) and i love the sound, both are connected via light pipe. the MSR 16 has been equally as great i use this to get my ideas down quick (when i get them) its so quick to use you can have a track done in no time, the MSR24 at the back is working fine and again i love the sound of, but im restoring it at mo, while using the other, bit of a project, nearly there. 2. Hi mike, here is some great advice, to everyone for that matter. i always do this, and has paid off. ask the engineer so SAVE all the stem files and to put them on a disc/dat or what ever format he has to do this, or even email them to you. as once the track has been mixed some places delete them or loose them or what ever and once they are gone they are gone, at least if you get them you can mix them at home or at a later date change the guitar or even the singer if you replace the singer, or add more tracks later on, you will always have them to use or play with, even if you have to pay him to do this, its worth it ! i wonder how many people wish they had done this in the past ? dont be one of them.
 3. £3.61 here with free post http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121278368540#ht_1428wt_856
 4. As much as i like frightningly good bass players like jimmy johnson, victor wooten, mark king and gary willis. and i have alot of their stuff, bass players that nail that fundamental groove for me is where bass playing is at. Jerome Preston and Rocco prestia's playing i love for that reason. And so for that reason im going to submit our very own "gaz66", i think i have near to 20 cd's with him on and can say his playing is as solid as the above players and tighter than a gnats chuff, ( Mods, an interview with him on here would be great,?? i know if willing he has so much usefull info on live playing ) so my fave underated player is Garry Crockett who has played with Roy ayers Lisa Stansfield, incognoto, Tom Jones, Ian Dury to name a few..... you may know him from the "james taylor quartet" stuff but also check out his playing on the " New Jersey Kings" stuff and also for me back to where JTQ had its more fonkyerrr roots definitely check out the the Sound Stylistics, car chase and funk music at its best. I think he is thinking of having a go at another sound stylistics cd, so maybe a bit of a push for one of our own ? Well i for 1 cant wait for the next one, common gaz. 12. Its been a great year on bass chat for me, met some new friends, learnt a lot, got some great bargains to add to the collection, some very intresting informative topics, on the whole a great site i really like cram packed full to the brim with like minded players, i like the way there is no arseyness from the more experienced players always helping the new players with what i have read as good advice, well done all. 2014 for me, I am really going to have a go at getting my funk band cd out, i am lucky to be in a band with very good top draw players that make me feel at times the weakest link, so a great learning curve for me which really pushes my playing into areas i would not normally go, so im trying to absorb all this new material and techniques in a bid to get it sounding natural on disc, and as highlights in my song writing. thats my plan for 2014, whats yours ? all the best to you all what ever you plan, Make it happen..

 15.
Meters live in 2012:
good find i did not know they had got back together, i was a big nevills fan, such a talented family, Aaron neville son is Ivan Neville has penned some great songs, "out in the streets, ect" if you dont know you should check out his dumpstaPhunk band with the talented tony hall and nick daniels on bass ( two bass players ). Dumpstaphunk, the name suits them to a tee its so punk funkaly raw, with a real upto date clintonish funkadelic/Parliament vibe to it. And also carrying on the neville legacy, we have arts son Ian neville on guitar ! the "everybody want some" and "listen hear" cd well worth having web site worth a visit http://www.dumpstaphunk.com/about/ the Nevilles classic Big Chief, one of about 20 versions on youtube... Go Cyril... And a clip of dumpsta, (not great sound tho !) (Edited cus of duf info,

 17.
Rainbow Rising. Just spotified it and had forgotten how good it is. Marvellous stuff!
Here here.. my mum plays this EVERY sunday morning, ( im not joking!) she is now 70 and has done since it came out ! i got her the CD years ago but No... it has the be the old LP scratches and all. for me tho its equal with back in black.
 18. ah, i see what you are saying, and so i have just tried it to see if there was a drop when bending a string. there was a bit of a drop but not much, noticable on the two of them with the string more off than on than the others. i had 4 stingrays and one pre eb sabre the worst stingray which had bad G dropout i sold, so now i can only test the 3 rays left and a sabre. So.. of the 3 rays left 2 of them (see att) had the pole off on the g, and 1, my black one has the G smack bang in the middle but the E is a 1/4 out (funny enough which has the best vol on the G) the sabre is the best out of the 4 All of them have the 4 middle poles pushed in which did make a diff.. When i bend the G string on the black one yes your right not much noticable drop if any, the sunburst one i feel there is, which i dont bend anyway as its fretless,, but i do wish the g was louder on that, which is even more noticable on this being a fretless i feel. Reg the height, plug in play an open string, now press the pickup down just a bit ( its on springs so goes down quite easy but dont force it incase the lugs are caught on the screw threads) when moved down just a few mil you can hear a noticable drop in loudness, thats all it takes,
 19.
the ones i owned were, had one with 2 band eq & one with 3 band eq,i even put a Nordstrand pickup in one which helped a bit but not much. No amount of adjustment on either the bass or amp sorted the problem out,i couldn't hear it,my band couldn't hear it & the audience couldn't hear it either. I think they look gorgeous but i wouldn't buy another.

I hear this quite a lot (not the G string issue, the actual complaint about it). I haven't experienced it, but apparently its down to EQ and the natural sound of the electronics. Different technique, strings, setups etc will make a difference, eg some hear it, some don't. This is one of the reasons the Bongo is so popular, and part of the reason the electronics were created. It's EQ/electronics refuses to allow anything like this! Also, the Ray 5 does not have a weak G!
The problem is in my view, EB cant be arsed to change the pickup design, musicman20, Most of the G drop in vol i feel it is not down to the Eq, you are lucky if yours does not have the drop in vol, as alot of them have on the 4 string ray for i think two main reasons.... 1) on most stingrays if you look down on top of the G string to the G polepiece you will see that the G string misses the cent of the pole by about a 1/4, ie it is not in the centre of the pole piece, 2) if you look at all the poles from the back of the bass you will see that the 4 middle poles are raised and the 2E and 2G are down, So when playing say a walking line across A,D,G, the vol will drop when you get to the G, as the D&G are closer and more cent to there poles, i know some are going to say the poles follow the curve of the fretboard as so the strings would be the same heights, but me for eg i like my strings flat. Now you cant raise the G side of the whole pickup as all you will do is make the D string even louder defeating the point, there is a cure, im not saying do this, but i have had to do it on all my stingrays. i have photo's on here somewhere showing this ( its an old topic !) you cant push up the outer poles as the coil tensions are holding them fast and you could damage the coils but you can push down the 4 middle poles to the same height as the outer 4 or even slightly lower so then when you do raise the pickup on the G side it will have more effect on the G.... Phewww if that makes sense artisan i'm the same as you, i cant use my stingrays live now at all, i don't want to get rid of them. but when compared to the G&L the drop in G vol is much more apparent, Maybe that's why Leo made the G&L with adjustable poles ?, I also have never known this drop in G on any of the jazz basses i have or had or tried, Anyone ?? EB should of sorted this out long ago, Com-on ernie, sort it out.
 20. I got a big picture of Ron in my studio, the guy is inspiring, What a gent, If your into autobiographies the Miles davis one "The autobiography" is stunning, and explaines more about jazz than any one book could ever do, in a gutter language that even i could understand and relate to. he is a "M.F....."
 21. There are some great players on basschat with loads of equally amazing bands, some im sure he will fit right in with, down that way.... Urb has a great jazz funk band the J-sonics, Gary "Gaz66" has an amazing band " the sound stylistics" (ex JTQ ( and for my ears in the best line up that ever was JTQ and the driving force that made them Kick)) im sure if you PM these guys they are more inclined to know whats going on in that field down your way and may be able to help. just a thought,
 22. just looked at his history, he seems like the real deal indeed, And hes played with jamaaladeen Tacuma i see, i have two of his CDs, inspiring stuff. Bluejay did you get up and play ??
 23. I can hear my neighbours tv, its funny how people think that is acceptable, but a guitar at the same volume is not, i think the tv, the god/preacher in the corner of the room that all furniture is faced toward it, waiting for its sermon, has become part of the subconscious, constant background indoctrination. Because you think differently and want to LEARN something different, others (neighbours) will be forced to listen to it because it is different, and not their normal background humdrum. Excuse them, for they can not think any other way, Get some headphones.
 24.
[sup]HK Actor systems,,,, really good... [/sup]
Here here, HK Actor years of use and still good, Duck.. a Shameless Plug coming... i do PA hire in the northwest (hint) and it has never let me down. Reliable, great sounding, looks good, holds its used value well, and quick to set up. If on a tight budget, before i got the HK i had Peavey xt bins and opus tops a peavey 2000w amp just for the bins and a studiomaster 1200 for the tops, with a behringer desk and active xover, and that sounded good for small to mid size places small halls etc. I still like the peavey stuff for a pub band its bomb proof and reliable. Altho the 115xt black widdow bins are rated at 700 prog and 350w rms i found they sounded much better and ran better with the 2000w peavey amp, again never had a problem. The peavey xt bins are fantastic value for money in a used market, very light and do a great job for what they are, a tidy pair of 18s just went on ebay for for £117 !
