  1. there is indeed and a great forum you can down load anything from the database with very good back up from boffins and designers some that worked on them at mackie http://www.d8bforum.com/phpBB3/index.php just looking at your rack ( if you will excuse the pun 🙂) im a bit of a rack junkie, what you using there ? i also have a rack but im getting sick if squeezing round the back to connect things up, so iv just about finished making one of these... so i can hard wire everything with patchbays on one side, will send photo when installed, at the mo its this....
  2. agreed there is all that, , and also to add to that there is no midi recording either, there is midi sync but thats about it. its more about bringing it to peoples attention and giving a bit of insight into it as old tec, but i think as all old gear, its still very usable and sounds good, like all gear while it lasts. the small floppy disc thing was just to show how small the O/S program is, you can you usb emulators in place of course. and change the hard drives for flash cards if wanted, i hope it does not clap out on me as my work flow around it is almost a pleasure to use and iv got a good grasp how to use it which it would take me ages to learn another system or software as good, but i do have another one just incase. loads of studios now using them as software daw controllers so also quite adaptable, here you go
  3. Was just reading nail soups post about needing more ram which prompted me to do this post just in case anyone is interested..... this is more about showing you what old tec can and cant do, and bring it to peoples attention as it seems not allot of people know about it, or forgotten about it, maybe on purpose haha, each to their own and all that. There is a system you can get quite cheapish now ( for what you are getting) which i have been using for 20+years, never crashes, it is old, but, still to this day its just amazing, i still don't think there is anything out there quite like it. For example, if i said there was a mixer and recorder system out there that can....... record 24 tracks at 24bit 44/96 at the same time all day and never crash ( in 20 years!) full on screen editing like cubase only easier the desk is 72 channels 8 bus 12 aux out and 12 aux internal with a mastering section every track has its own compressor gate, and range of EQs with full automation going through the desk into the recorder and back out from the recorder back to the desk and have top quality plugins running like..... Massenberg EQ drawmer ADX dynamics TC reverbs Mackie Reverbs and delays and FX Mackie vocal correction suit Antares autotune acuma final mix, mastering ( now owned by Trackion mastermix but not as good) Stereo and mono Delays RTA 31 graphics 5.1 cinema surround sound + a load more the desk is fully automated and i mean everything, in real time and records to the recorder 24 tracks via light pipe ( adat) The recorder, each track has 8 virtual tracks for other takes, thats 8x24 = 192 tracks for one song all on the screen at the same time, if wanted ! Also if wanted the desk can control your DAW be it cubase, logic, protools etc, with everything right in front of you on a desk, And everything listed above running ALL AT THE SAME TIME ! with no crashing, drivers or windows in sight, and all that runs with only... wait for it....... 256mb ram a 333mhz intel pent processor 120g and 32g hard drives the whole O/S on 3 floppy discs. Would you believe it ??? Probably not, yet this was available toward the end of the 90s ! yep, even then, all that was available, no idea how mackie did it, but, it is a great feat of electrical engineering even by today's standards The desk Is the Mackie D8B the recorder is the Mackie HDR 24 youtube them I run one D8B with two HDR recorders running into it, recording 48 tracks of wide open full bandwidth WAVS and i think it sounds great, with more than enough tools to use to get most jobs done ready for release. All sounds great and to be fair it still is, but... by todays standards there are a few draw backs. if they bother you, but nothing to do with the quality of the recording or wav stamping. 1, the recorder is like a digital tape recorder, you can not slow it down or speed it up, its set, you can alter the BPM but only as a time frame at the top for the markers, so the transport wont slow or speed up, this never once bothered me as all my songs start at a set BPM anyway and im happy with that. 2, on the recorder you cant flip wavs backward, or time stretch wavs, again iv never needed them, but would be nice to try, 3 on the recorder you can not create more tracks, they are set at 24 with 8 virtual tracks per track, so enough for the most. 4 if you want to take the wav files or songs from the recorder to your daw, or bouncing wavs or tracks over to your daw, you need to use a FTP link to your pc using an ip address, which i use all the time and find it no problem once set up, or you can just inport the wavs from the hard drive or just play them in to your daw via spdif out as there is no USB connection. or just backup to the caddy drive and use that drive in a one of them drive bays that usb connect to your pc or laptop, easy really. When these when came out they were... the desk about £15k + depending which plugins and options, Review here..https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/mackie-d8b The recorder about £5k all in review here...https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/mackie-hdr2496 So thats about £20.000.00 of usable stuff you can get today for ! about 700 if you scoot around, a great deal i think if your into this type of stuff. anyway, i just thought i would throw this out there, it could be an option for you if you wanted to look at something else. i know at least one other basschat member that is still using them, anyone else ? or if you want to know more, ask away.
  4. Thats cool 🙂 we all need a flash point. mine was nils Landgren, loved that band, i was playing in a funk band doing more than a few of his songs you know how it is, you obsess and i ended up getting everything by him, and then when magnum Coltrane price joined as much as i envy Lars Danielsson as a top bass player that band then with magnum seem to spark something and i wanted to play trombone, must of just been seeping through all them years, plus my friend i was in the funk band with was a top bone player using wah wah and all sorts tom foolery. also the necessity of asking brass players to play on my tracks, in the end i just thought "how hard can it be, get a bone and find the notes" so i did, so i think thats where it all began with me, with nils,
  5. just a thought from another post someone mentioned, it does seem quite a few bass players either started on trombone and went to bass or started on bass and went to trombone. i know a few on here play bone as well. for me i started on bass guitar and trombone came much later, of all i talk to who play bass and trombone it seems like a natural progression either way, it must be a low end kinship. i now love playing trombone, im nowhere near where i want to be im good enough to do all the parts on my songs, but i now do wish i had started earlier. For those who have thought about giving it a go, i would say do it, for the most im sure you will love it. so... how many of you play bone as well, and while we are at it how many have thought of giving it a go ?
  6. Yea its the right place, funny thing but loads of bass players also play trombone, i think its a low end kinship 🙂 i know a few on here also play trombone, and if you dont then you should give it a go, its a great instrument to play, and yes you are right fretless bass players do seem to take right to it as i did, i love trombone i do all the trombone flute and some of the trumpet parts if they are easy on all my tracks i release. yeaaaa a bass forum could easy be its second home 🙂 All you bass bone players please say yey, lets see

  16. it seems allot of this going on on facebook market. there are an equal number of people trying to rip you off if your selling stuff as well. i get them every day without fail. one of the biggest scams on there at the mo that i have seen is the " Ketter shed" scam, have alook its amazing. no matter what area your from there will be someone selling a Ketter shed close to you, with pictures that show a house from anywhere else in the world except the uk with palm trees and all sorts of give aways, all at £75 and delivered to you when you order from their special site, no matter how many times you report it as a scam it pops up again under another name, funny enough some look like hacked accounts from people that have been on there a while, seems fb is just a minefield and will only get worse as they tell their mates how easy it is, and will get even worse untill FB just shut the whole thing down as just too much of a pain in the crack to control. i hope you all get some sort of justice out of all this, nothing can be more frustrating.
  17. beautiful indeed 🙂 there is something more "art" to a gretsch, i think they have the same thing going on as the early ibanez semi, love some of them as well, so much more went into them than the gibson's.
  18. Just incase anyone is interested. i have for years been listening to some great funk from all over the world from a great site called filtermusic with loads of great radio stations on am in fact just listerning to the station "goodfellas music station" B-Funk has loads of fresh wacky stuff going on, great for ideas, but there's loads of good stuff here, worth a bookmark at least. https://filtermusic.net/funk-soul-disco https://filtermusic.net/
  19. i cant help myself, i need help too, though i have narrowed it down a bit.... to buy studio rack stuff though
  20. thinking of sacking our piano player and getting this in, his timing is better anyway :-0
  21. the offer of a quality biscuit has now expired, or should i say eaten, i now have only cheap sh!t in, rich tea, not even real ones at that, but aldi ones. also the tea has taken a somewhat downward spiral in quality, gone are the Twinings extra special limited edition Mediterranean selection infused with wild flowers and herbs from 10 different countries, this is due to sheer gluttony on my behalf, but fear not, aldi has come trumps again, albe it with their cheapest tea flavored powder, where you do infact get a couple of real tea crumbs in every bag. if there is any change to the menu you will be notified with out delay. BUT..please NOTE ..The management has the right to change the menu without notice, the offer is not refundable for any other products or cash payment other than intended herein. furthermore the offer above may be removed without notice at any time. 🙂
  22. you can gets some really fat funky bass sounds out of the Novation KS rack (or the keyboard version) i dont know why any one has not picked up on these yet, seems people go for the supernova, which i dont understand as the ks is less than half the price as the supernova and i think much better, i had them both and dumped the supernova on ebay as it just did not sound as good, but yea, you can tweak bass sounds till the cows come home on that thing. also has a load of other usable cool sounds in it
  23. Here is another Don't you forget about me, was not written by simple minds, but was infact written by Keith Forsey and steve schiff, who were writing music for the 1985 film breakfast club, and there if you dig about you will find an original version. also the song was also offered to billy idol and Bryan Ferry before simple minds did it, bryan ferry said no as he was working on his boys and girls Lp doww
  24. Reduced to £400 ! ! i think i would rather keep it than go too much less tbh. its a good deal for a nice guitar. someone is going to be very happy at this price, cheers
  25. yea, me too, as much as i like dougs playing and his dont give a fu@k attitude, his playing sometimes seems over the top with fx and some how detract at times to whats going on, but in terms of pushing bass boundaries doug no doubt is right up there, there is something allot cooler going on with muzz, very laid back and an altogether more gentle approach to things.
