Clarky I'm hoping to find a good one on 38th street in NYC actually I did consider what you are suggesting, thanks for the pointer. EBS_freak there is already a new Dingwall p bass in the works but it will be sometime before it will be fully tested and ready for production. Also EBS_freak I don't just own Dingwalls there's Fenders and PRS's in my fleet which I also consider irreplaceable lets not generalise ok?
You may want to head a bit further up to 48th Street... I'm not generalising. Just being blunt - it's OK to own a lot of the same brand. I've got examples of the same bass but in different finishes - depending upon the gig.

Buy a Dingwall because that's what you're ultimately going to end up with, after all, you don't want to end up with is unusable in comparison.

So how come Ashdown cabs, which don't have anything obstructing the drivers and ports sound like they have been wrapped up in a duvet? I'm with Mr Perry on this one. If there is enough of a gap for the ports to breathe (which I would imagine to be the case here), I can't believe it will be a problem. Why has nobody questioned other manufacturers who blatently have covered ports and drivers? And let's face it, if you are on a gig, I would be amazed if you could tell the difference. And if you can tell the difference, you are obviously sitting in your bedroom with a totally ridiculous rig that does nothing but pee off your neighbours - and you've convinced yourself that you can hear a difference when in reality, you can't.

NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
EBS_freak replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the lesson is that if you are going to buy something which is essentially an off the peg bass, you'll save yourself loads of hassle by spending a bit of money on fuel and driving around all the stockists until you find the one that works for you. If you are going to get a custom bass built, go to a luthier with whom you can deal directly and has a doorstep that you can turn up on with relative ease... Anyway Gareth, now that BP is on board, I am sure your nightmare will stop and your basses will arive to your satisfaction having been inspecting by BP himself. You may as well ask him to sign it - some MM collector freak will dig that in the future. -
The main differences come down to the detail and your ability to do the job. For example take into account the following - The quality of the paintjob. Unless you buy a prefinished body, a home spray job will not be up to the same spec as a pro polyester or nitro job. The fitment of the neck in the neck pocket. We've all seen necks that have been too tight in the pocket and caused cracking in the paint or the pocket itself. Of course, you can ease it in, but unless you are tooled up correctly (or have any means to refinish body/neck if you mess up) it will be hard to get that perfect joint. Of course, it's all possible - but if you aren't already tooled up or have access to the right equipment to get the detail correct, then it will be quite costly (how many people have screening paint hanging around for example) - and remember, you home built bass with have a limited resale value. (Depends if you are one of those people who like to have a "name" (or a fake Fender decal) on your headstock... or are actually chuffed that you have something that nobody else has got...) Having said all that, everybody should build one... it's a reqarding experience.

Yeah, his typical oly white makes for a great looking stage bass.

He could have at least chosen a pretty one!
Prepared to bet a lot that more people on here have heard of Bernie Goodfellow...
Who...?

With the look of all these cabs, I thought I had just walked into Maplins...

The Tascams are very strong performers in this area. Defo worth checking out. My Tascam field recorder (I have the Mk1 also) are great and provide a very honest reproduction. http://tascam.com/product/dr-07mk2/

Warwick Streamer Chrome Tone - Blinger than Jens Ritter's Vajazzle
EBS_freak replied to xilddx's topic in Gear Gallery
Looks great, although I think it's a shame that the strings don't continue the chrome theme! It's certainly a showman's bass! Ace! -
And not forgetting the case...

More original Goodfellow porn. Number 20... Spent it's life under the bed. Complete with original duster, Goodfellow strap, case, everything! It doesn't get much better than this as far as finds go.

I first came across these when I was looking up Cass Lewis on YouTube. For some reason they don't sound like my head tells me they should sound like. 2:38 if you can't place Cass Lewis...

NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
You are more than welcome to be my guest, come and visit me, and I'll let you try 'em. In a nutshell, the neck and the novax system allows the E and low B to ring out well defined notes which were previosuly not so on other basses I've owned. Also these necks are very comfortable, not quite as thin as Ibanez necks, yet they allow for a very low action without fret buzz. Thanks to the extra scale length all strings have an even tension from the G string to the low B, they are a breeze to play, effortlessly, songs which I previously struggled that were a bit busier on the hand now are much easier on the wrist muscles. The pickups and preamps I also find to be very usable and easy for anyone to get a good sound just going through the pickup selector and tone control. Come and try them. Nuff said
You see, this is what I find interesting about Dingwalls. All the owners report they have this thunderous, piano like bottom end that just rings out. There are plenty of non Novax system basses there that have an equally good (if not better) low end. The thing about even tension across the strings may not be as advantageous as everybody thinks. I know that GW will despute this but play a Dingwall in a band situation (or even soloed if you really want to analyse this) and compare the balls of the bottom to the anaemic top end of treble strings. Boost the bass to bring the treble strings to where they should be and the bass strings are too overpowering. They just aren't balanced - the weak G string syndrome of the Stingray is nothing compared to that of the Dingwall - especially when we're talking 6 stringer DWs. This is why I haven't got a Dingwall but I have to admit, I like the concept and they are beautifully made. If GW has found his weapon of choice, great. Now let's get on and let Gareth get his Stingray replacement be it a Bongo or whatever. PS no matrix/red pill here -
I'm toying with the idea of getting a custom bass done. One of the things I'd like to do would be having my initials (ARK) on the fingerboard. I can't think what colour would be right though, it'd be an ebony or rosewood fingerboard. Body probably black with black/white/black guard. Black hardware as well, naturally Any suggestions? Can't decide if white or silver would look best!
Have a look at the Yamaha BBNE2. Always thought the inlays on that were well cool and you could have your initials at the 12th block instead of the EASTism.
No. It would look like a bad bathroom suite.
You are right. Beside, the headstock decals are mirror chrome and would cack with gold hardware. -

Perhaps the suitability of the bass is answered by this photograph... -
That really would have been a sweet option.
But thats why you drive the Valve Drive... these guys aren't daft... PS Sad to see the spot varnished logo on the top vanish for the plastic speaker cab logo...
