1. Basement Jaxx at the NEC. I was standing right at the back and I could still feel the skin of my scalp moving over my skull. Painful. Thankfully I had earplugs but it's really stupid when it's that loud.
 2. Just found out that I can't go... but I will be most disappointed if every BC member doesn't post a picture of themselves with Dave Swift to Facebook.
 3.
Enjoying this thread immensely! Being from the South Wales Valleys, for us it's a case of 'any phonics butt?', to which I always reply, 'next weeks band mate'. My covers band do modern pop, we have a (relatively) young female singer, and do Rita Ora, Meghan Trainor, Ellie Goulding etc...I remain amazed at the fact that some people are still surprised when I tell them 'No, we don't do any Oasis' after they've listened to the sort of set we have for the last hour or so. IMHO, in general your 'average' pub punter bases their judgment on how good your band is by the content of your setlist, rather than how well you play the songs. I've had this discussion with various people who call a band sh*t because they don't like the songs (which may actually be being played very well indeed). Usually Rock/metal fans (of which I am one) who are seeing a Pop Band. YMMV!
Ha definitely! A set list can make or break a band.
 4. Town Called Malice. Ah yes.
 5.
Amazed that no one has mentioned Sex on Sodding Fire yet....
Oh jeez, an obvious exclusion!
 6.
To save you the trouble of trying one, you can simulate the experience by borrowing your drummers sticks and hitting them together...
I find a broom handle is close approximation to a Rickenbacker. Although that probably plays better.
 7.
That gig is way out of my league, I do have a Nexus line array system hooked up in my lounge though, it is overkill but I can't abide cheap gear
I'm slumming it and decided to get some Clair Brothers hooked into my bathroom. Can't stand hearing people taking a dump.
 8.
One young lad fell face-first onto a floor monitor and knocked himself clean out.
Would that be a db monitor? Or a d&b monitor?
 9. Seeing the bride being subjected to the dirty dancing lift... and then being dropped on her head and knocked out... by the best man, was probably my highlight. Or the time that the bride and groom refused to talk to each other after falling out. When the first dance came (at 11.45pm) he tried to put his arms around her waist. She simply took them off. Awkward.
 10.
It is ok. I read the topic totally wrong, for which I realised, and was going to delete it, but I thought I may as well just leave it up as it will teach me to read things properly before responding and take the comments on the chin as experience.. I can understand that different songs attract a different type of `dancer`
In which case, enjoy the thread!
 11. So far, it looks like the Killers and the Kaisers have a lot to answer for.
 12.
I never understood this point of view, the Beatles were a great band, with lovely melodies and harmonies, Oasis are a shouty light rock band (fro meatheads), apart from the hair cuts I don't think they're alike at all
Agreed. I was merely stating the cliche. I'm a big Beatles fan. I'm not an Oasis fan. Either the personnel or the music.
 13.
These songs are the bread and butter of the pub/wedding bands, so even if you hate them, it gives other people a bit of entertainment. There seems to be a lot of threads running down people who have been made rich from their music. Must be another slow day for decent topics
Not really. I play these songs far too often... as it's what people apparently want to hear. 132 wedding/corporate gigs in 2014 and these songs pretty much were staple. It's got nothing to do with slow day or running people down. Chill out a bit and enjoy the topic for what it is. You know, you don't have to participate in a thread... people aren't going to force you... and as far as I am aware, participation isn't mandatory.
 14. Sorry! It is me going mad... I knew somewhere that its only WEP. The above is when you are connecting to an access point. This is when you are using the onboard wifi. As I originally thought, WEP only.
 15.
You are right. Perhaps better to sort the problem before it happens rather than after... Proactive vs Reactive and all that
Just looking at the software... I'm not too sure now... You may be able to use stronger encryption after all. I'm behind the times maybe!
 16.
It probably sounds like every other sh*tty brainless w***er anthem they've every written.
You say written... you mean rehashed from The Beatles?
 17.
Anything by Oasis.
Oh yes. Cue throwing of beer and drunken singing at any wedding. Awful. Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger get my vote.
 18. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/280667-music-for-meatheads/
 19. Spin off from other thread.... There's some songs that turn punters into absolute ass hats. I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs Chelsea Dagger - Fratellis Mr Brightside - The Killers and from taunton-hobbit - Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
 20. I'll start a thread as to not derail this thread.
 21. Same as I Predict A Riot, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby....! Chelsea Dagger... Songs for meatheads. Apologies to any meatheads that may be reading. I hate playing them because they usually start trouble.
 22.
Ive never had a problem with the router. You can set a password on the router and that will stop others loggin onto it. I would recommend the X18 to anyone. It's been fantastic
Indeed you can. It's only WEP... which to be honest, for the average gig is going to be good enough as a deterrent but as people can probably gather, it's easily crackable with the right tools and a laptop.
 23.
Thanks for the info. Could one use something like Airport Express?
Airport express would be a good choice - you could use it to then airplay tunes from your iPad.
 24.
That's the one, but I'm not on face book! It must have leaked out into the ether now.
Tell the truth, you got an email from Sterling Ball with the attachment inside... subject title : heads will roll.
 25. Does anybody buy a t bird to play up the dusty end? Same with a Hofner. I'd love to see Mark King on a violin bass. Matchsticks comes to mind.
