1.
Damn that XR18/IEM set up looks good. I really like the power strip idea and want to do the same myself. Was this purchased as a unit or did you make it up yourself? If purchased could you please share the detais so I can look into making a puchase or if made details of the components used and where they came from. Do you have photos of the rear? Don't want much do I
Made up myself. The bottom strip consists of: Neutrik DBA-BL - blanking plates Neutrik NC3FD-LX B - Chassis mount female XLR Neutrik NAC3MPA-1 - Powercon Socket M3 Nylon bolts and M3 Screws (socket head) Neutik SCDR boot - for Powercon Socket rear I had the 6 hole D type rack panel hanging around, not sure what it is but there's something very similar here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PSG03788-Rack-Panel-1U-6-D-Type-PRO-SIGNAL-/191500430568? You'll need to solder and heat shrink some flying cables (I use VanDamme star quad cable) to the rear of the XLRs on the panel mount mount and put a NC3MXX male XLR connector on each end. Theres a length of cable ties going across the width of the rack in order to attach the cables to avoid stress in the solder joints during transit. On this particular case, Road Ready 6u effects case, from bax shop, there's a handy rail to tie such things onto. Also on these same internal rails, I've mounted a psu from abcproducts (eBay) to get rid of the wall wart plug. From the Powercon, the power is split between the Behringer and this PSU to provide power to the IEMs. The top panel is simply a 1u blanking strip. Try to get a u shaped one instead of a flat one as there is less flex in the u shaped ones. You could get away with a 4u case if you wanted the same if you are prepared to drill the XR18 rack ears, which I know a few people have done. You could drill a hole for each of the leads going straight to the inears unit. In which case, I would suggest a cable passing straight through with a gromet in the rack ear where you have drilled to prevent cable rub. The power would of course, take a thicker drill bit and some precision drilling to line up the holes for the M3 bolt. The owner of this case is not too sure if he wants to add stuff to the rack, hence the choice of 6u - gives options down the line. There is nothing mounting on the back yet as there is no need to even take off the back. It's planned to be just placed on the back lid and the top is removed as in the photo and everything is available from there. To be fair the case is fairly deep, maybe twice the depth it needs to be - but the guy I'm building it for is planning to put all his XLR cables in a bag and store it in the rear of the rack... Hope this helps.
2.
Would it be possible to put a east curicut in my Spitfire without too much disruption ? Is it a matter of taking one out and fitting new in?
I would say it's not too difficult as the hole spacing looks the same. You would be left with a redundant switch though. I would take take your original circuit off your hands if you were thinking about moving it on.
3. Tonyf - we need more rack porn IEM setups in this thread!
4. Working on a new rig for a mate. XR18 and IEM rig. Proper versatile setup. All front mounted sockets, including the power so to avoid bending down too far when plugging in all the channels. Nice little stage box that sits next to the drums. Three piece band, two individual mono feeds from the IEM transmitter (with two receivers), one wired solution to the drums. Spare rack for potential inclusion of a dbx drive rack maybe, or further IEM system if they ever want to go down the stereo route in the future.
5. Not at all. Set up your PA and play a stereo Beatles track through it. Stand to one side of the stage and listen and ask yourself if you are getting the full picture.
6. You are right, it's a John circuit and Bernie has been exploring It as an alternative vibe to the Rumour circuit.
7. That's psychoacoustics for you!
8.
What's not to like??
I love the logo.
9. When I saw the title, I thought you'd be having a switching system in there - but you haven't. Ditch the rack!
10. My question about the bass is that I have a good idea who the bass player is and the use of a certain bass and colour would confirm that information.
11. You may or may not find this interesting reading. http://www.thehamsters.co.uk/interviews/bassist.php
12. What bass was he playing?
13. Audere https://www.audereaudio.com/index.htm and John East's J Retro http://www.east-uk.com/index.php/bass/j-retro/j-retro-01.html spring to mind. You can mount pretty much any preamp to a jazz bass (most come with stack pot variations) but some will require additional routing as putting a battery in the cavity takes up the lion's share of the space. Also worth noting the a stack pot takes up more room under the plate than a single pot. The two above are designed to fit in the cavity with no routing.
14. Its not open till the 5 April. People who have seen this is going to be very limited.
15. Oops :-/

17. Wiki - clearly written by himself. Didn't Janek write a load of his wiki himself... only for it to be cleansed within an inch of it's life...?

19. I may or may not have had a hand in sunburstjazz1967's setup. Those RCF 735/745s really are great, you never struggle for vocal volume and the woofers are beefy enough to take a fair amount of punishment, including some pushed kick drum. All in a package which really are quite portable and in most situations, are great even without subs. These things really kick out far more bass than most tops in plastic cases that I have ever used. They will easily keep up with your standard 12 tops/15 sub set up. Easily. Those mini array systems? In comparison, rubbish. I did the sound for a band I depped for a couple of weeks back - with Mackie 450 tops and a couple of RCF 705s. Nothing particularly exciting about the front of house but I did take my smaller digital mixer with me. Being able to gate and compress the kick drum for starters makes a massive difference... suddenly turns a floppy flap into a proper kick thump that gives the band some energy. Again, compressed vocals and powerful EQ makes the vocals sound light and airy as opposed to boxy and flat, with compressed mixes going to my inear rack that I let the band use... it was a big revelation to them as to how their PA could sound. In fact, even with a PA like that - which isn't super money by comparison, you can put the whole band through and have a much, much better sound out front. Everything just sits right and there's no fighting in the mix... And as mentioned before, the 31 band EQ is a Godsend. The ultimate tool to have built into a digital mixer to help fend off feedback in even the most difficult venues. I don't think, given the price that the Behringer units are going for, there is a reason for anybody not to be using a digital mixer. Hopefully it's landed me a few more deps too
20. Gosh, the Tickled Trout really is upping it's game.
21.
if he's the bloke with his own wiki page...
Just read the wiki page. What a tool. His home country may explain a lot of the drinking problems though...
22.
No coil tap switch?
No - different circuit altogether. New circuit.
23. Noddy Holder did worse to get a break...
24. As a descendent from a family insurance brokers business, Id say don't do it. The bottom has dropped out the market with the big boys concentrating on putting all the small fish out of business. As a niche market, musicians can't pay to put petrol in their cars to get to gigs, so why are they going to bother with insurance?
25. But what about the boxing that followed...?
