Good to see Dave is recognised as a Bassist in his own right and not just an appendage to Jools....
I don't think anybody outside of the UK would have a clue who Dave Swift is. Mind you, I don't think the majority of bass players in the UK would know who he is either.

Has anyone compared a BF BB2 with a Vanderkley 115MN6?
EBS_freak replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs
I nearly responded to this but have decided that I've much better things to do, like well erm, anything really.
Lies! That's just lazy talk. To be honest, I have never read so much about a brand of cab that requires as much input from the end user to do a job. Any shortcomings always appears to be in the realm of the player and not the cab. Stupid amounts of power, stage positioning, strings, bass setup, how you play your bass... I don't think I could do with the extra stress of gigging one. -

Opinions on using Active 10" PA Speakers for stage monitoring

Sounds promising! 👍 -
Not sure if you got what I was on about - there's essentially three parts to a wireless mic system - capsule, transmitter (which is housed in the "mic") and the receiver. Any weakness in those will impact the performance of the whole system. A lesser capsule on a performant RF system will always be better than a red hot capsule on a system with poor radio capabilities. Fortunately the latter don't appear too often. As for digital vs analogue, I'd always go for analogue over digital for wireless vocal mics as I'm an inears user and the last thing you want is the latency of digital mics, digital fx and a digital desk ending up in your ears. Singing against a delay is horrific. If you aren't an inears user, this is of less importance. Of course, 2.4ghz vs 5gz vs channel 70 vs channel 38 (Inc 823-832) is another topic you'd want to consider.

Re: mic costs - probably should refer to capsule costs as opposed to mic costs... The transmitters in wireless mics vary greatly in quality.

Not impressed with the dB rating of my new bins

And here was me thinking the fliptop design had had its day... -
http://www.mercury-av.com/sales/Sennheiser-EW100-945-G3---Range-E--.html Although if you are suffering with lots of feedback, I would suggest there is something fundamentally wrong with the way that the PA is being tuned.

I don't get it? Are these new Barefaced cabs? -
Is that dB or d&b ..?
You'll never get an answer. -
I don't know of any artist that is actually using it though. Good in theory although I don't know how successful it is in practice!

I'm which case, if you want true stereo, you need the ACS live system - or maybe check out Klang.com
-
Ha! True benefit of stereo saves on transmitters? Seriously though, a stereo inears mix is lovely. Less fatiguing, more true to life and a more immersive experience altogether... Assuming you spend the time to getting it right. FOH can be all dull and mono but I love my full stereo monitor mix with luscious stereo keys, panned toms, stereo reverb and being able to position instruments throughout the LR mix. Much more fun.
Thanks gents. The ui12 GUI let's me assign the two headphone outs as extra aux outs so they can be mixed independently and used as third and fourth monitor channels. I hadn't thought about the pan left & right from one transmitter though, assume that would let me send different mixes to two receivers? Andy
Correct! One transmitter, two receivers each receiving a different mix.
-
I would get a rack shelf and mount the Ui12 on that. Some rack shelfs have holes in the bottom so you can cable tie whatever you want to it... but you could just use a plentiful supply of velcro. Or you could drill your own holes... Then I would get a 16 d panel like this - And then I would buy all the neutrik chassis comments to put all the sockets on the Ui12 that you want to present on flying cables. That should sort out a neat solution for mounting the mixer. Will take you a while to solder it - but will probably give you the solution that you want. re: the wifi. There will be some attenuation - but you'll probably not notice it significantly. (e.g. it won't be anything to worry about). There will be less loss in an ABS rack case compared to a full flight case - but in reality, even a full flight case doesn't contain that much metal - most of it is board which doesn't attenuate the wifi signal significantly. I suspect you will be able to buy a wiring kit to remote mount that aerial - but without taking a closer look, I couldn't recommend further than this. It's probably worth mentioning that the Ui12 only has 2 aux sends... so you are only looking at running a maximum of two mixes - or one stereo mix. Don't buy 4 transmitters as they will not be able to be used. The options are buy two stereo transmitters but run them in mono... or buy one stereo transmitter and use in focus mode so you can either hand pan to the left or hard pan to the right and get a summed mono mix at the receiver end. Remember, like your standard radio system, with the receivers, more than one person can pick up the same mix, you just have to tune into the same frequency. From going what you said in your post, I suspect this is what you've missed! My gut feeling for you is that you don't really want to rack mount this stuff. You'd be probably better off getting a 1u pizza box sized SKB rack bag and run two XLRs (either a two core multicore or two standard XLRs cable tied together) from that to the Ui12 which would be on the floor. Given the size of the Ui12, I would wager the difference in setup times would be less than a few minutes - if it minutes plural at all. Hope this helps.
Update, gigged the Four10 last night and had a bit of a tweak with the amp eq, bigger lows and ample volume were forthcoming, also heard it from out in the room as I lent it to a mate who played after and it sounded great from various points in the room, the headline bands bassist was using an svt pro and a couple of Zilla cabs but he commented on my sound and said "what the f@@# is in that Barefaced it sounds awesome". She's a keeper.
dragonffli?

Great review dood! Really enjoyed reading about your experience.

Great review dood. Also worth mentioning that a set of standard single drivers in a set of standard earbuds (think iPod headphones ones) are usually dynamic drivers, not balanced armatures - which naturally develop more bass than balanced armatures - That's why I would always recommend bolstering the amount of bass drivers. That's not saying that balanced armatures are lacking in the bass... it's just for plentiful bass and headroom, you need a bit of safety in numbers in the lows. (Two is enough - they'll quite happily rip your head off with more than enough bass - any further drivers in the low is a bonus).
-
If you like loads in reserve, the 750 no question. The 250 is deemed to be a loud amp - and it is - and in most situations it will be plenty... but if headroom is your thing, you'll enjoy the extra breathing space offered by the 750 - £180 is a small price to pay for the upgrade.

Gosh - you reckon the OP is still there quaking with his credit card, still waiting to pull the trigger?
The trick to using a stereo rig in any environment is really knowing what to put in your left and right channels and whom is going to be receiving it and where best to use it. Armed with that knowledge, I'd used a full stereo bass rig for years. Not once did I ever have an engineer (worth their salt) have an issue with it and never did my 'sound' suffer.
That's cos an engineer will just go "meh" and sum to mono.

Speak with Zilla - http://www.zillacabs.com/custom_cabs.php They do plenty of head and cab conversions. To echo others on here, I would be tempted to build a new cab and new head than butcher any existing combo cabinet.

Man, it's not a long time to have been missing - but if the alarm has been raised and it's hit the news.... well, I hope it ends well and she just needed some me time. :-/

I'm sure that I've read this somewhere already but can you change patches via Midi or is the MIdi functionality just for programming via the editor?
