1.
amps can't actually put out square waves, needs infinite bandwidth
Hmm, the same logic would suggest that square waves don't exist.

 3.
AFAIK the "hi" and "low" inputs on amps refer to the impedance of the input. The "lo" input will, being low impedance, try to draw a lot more signal current which when used with an active bass resulting in a higher current flow down the cable giving better signal quality. Using a passive bass into the "lo" input will result in loading of the pickups and dulling the sound. An active bass will "work" into the hi input but you wont be getting the sonic benefits of the greater signal current between the bass and amp.
это не так. On a typical amp, both inputs are high impedance but the "high" input is padded to reduce the level going to the first preamp stage.
 4.
Therein lies the problem; Behringer gear (like much of the Far Eastern mass-produced electronics stuff now) is practically impossible to repair if it goes wrong. Sadly it's almost always a 'chuck it in the bin and buy a new one' job, since the surface-mount components are incredibly difficult to solder by hand and the construction of much of the hardware means you'll probably break it trying to dismantle it.
That's what I'd expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that my new Behringer power amp is old school construction with axial lead components throughout. No surface mount to be seen. Maybe this is still the norm in high power stuff as opposed to preamps and processors.
 5.
check out this musicman copy. http://thetopguitars...tric-Bass-.html
It includes a bow? "Bow Material: Brazil Wood"
 6. Not bad at all, although I did find myself singing Brown Sugar after listening.
 7. I'm waiting for the cranial midi interface so I can let out all of the brilliance my hands can't deal with.
 8. Bad timing, but Jeff Berlin is playing in Prague on Friday. Jeff Berlin and punk somehow don't go together
 9. I think I draw a line between technology used to enhance or even create an acoustic environment and technology used to hide, eliminate or even replace performance deficiencies. An objective voice in the back of my head keeps saying "if it sounds good, it is good", but the truth is I hate it. But having said that, I produced an acapella CD some years ago and didn't have a suitable recording space. Finished up making a small dead recording booth out of mattresses, recording the five singers one at a time and adding electronic reverb later. I guess I cheated but we were able to reproduce the performances in a live setting. Autotune wasn't around then - I wonder if I would have been tempted.
 10.
28/27 from me. From the discussion of results and Amusia after you complete the test, it seems that the average is approx 25/25, so speaking as a nerd, a lot of bass players would have to get very high scores to show a statistically significant difference from the 'general public'.
There's not much room at the top for exceptional ability. I guess they scaled the test to focus on disability rather than ability.
 11. Just caught this on iPlayer. I must have filed him and ELO away under memorabilia or something, but this reminds me what a gift he has as a songwriter (those melodies!) and a singer (that voice!). A few more like him and there would never have been a need for AutoTune.
 12. If you've got 20 minutes to spare, it might be interesting to find out how much better (?) bassists perform on this than the general public - although to be fair, there's probably a high proportion of show-off musicians who've taken the test so far. http://www.delosis.com/listening/home.html
 13. I'm looking out for a Stradivarius
 14. Nothing fancy - just conundrum
 15.
My first thought would be that greater excursion would just push the same amount of air harder, not that it would move more air...
I guess the simple answer is that if you want to know how much air you're moving, you need to measure it in cubic inches rather than square inches. Displacement (i.e. volume of air) is the key, and that's a combination of cone area and excursion.
 16. The first thing I'd check is that the bridge is effectively earthed. A multimeter from the bridge to the earth on the output jack should read near enough to zero ohms.
 17.
Blame the soundmen methinks- was at the Garmisch festival with BMW Motorrad this year and at the after gig party there was a band playing and whilst their sound was powerful it was simply too bassy for the covers they were playing. On asking the soundman to boost the low mids and reduce the lows he just looked at me as though I was daft.
Raised on oompah?
 18. It really depends on how much level your particular power amp needs. My BDI-21 could only drive my old power amp to clipping with lows, highs or both boosted. Not really a problem for me but a potential limitation to be aware of.
 19.
As for Harley Davidson, it seems that they TRIED to copyright their engine sound but gave up = probably because of the sorts of difficulties I've already described
Complicated I'm sure by a prior claim by Massey-Ferguson
 20. I've reconed a fair few JBL and SWR drivers but it was some years back. The kits came with shims and glue and it was a pretty straightforward job. I used to clean the coil gap with doubled-over gaffa tape to get rid of bits of old burnt coil and lacqer. Only one went horribly wrong - the voice coil rubbed in the gap and I don't really know why. It's possible that the coil former wasn't correctly aligned to the cone or maybe I didn't clean it carefully enough
 21. Got a new power amp yesterday and although I knew it blew air from right to left, when I put it in my rack case I realised just how little side clearance there was inside. I've now got serious doubts about the ventilation. I've got 30 days to return the amp to Thomann, but before I do that I thought I'd explore other possibilities. I'm thinking of cutting holes in both sides of the case. Any idea who might supply suitable grilles to make the result look less horrendous?
 22. This is the full, uncut version of the documentary about the origins of bass in modern music. Must see for bassists and very good for understanding how important a bassline is for most modern music.
 23.
iknew I could relie on you!
Now that's being overfamiliar. The first time was bad enough
 24.
No, it's Latin 'ex patria', just means 'out of your country'. I guess literally 'your fatherland'
English: expatriate - a person who lives from choice in a foreign country
 25.
Maybe buy a Behringer BDI-21 first? They're £30 new and in my opinion are just as good as a Sansamp. Can't comment on the DHA though, but the BDI-21 gets a thumbs up from me
Good advice. There's a thread on TB where the BDI-21 and BDDI were compared and the vast majority couldn't hear the difference.
