1. If Eltham's web site is any guide, he's a God! Even the guy in the sky doesn't rate a capital G from me.
 2.
Well I guess respect is due, but it does seem like a lot of effort just to stick a mic stand up your arse .
Oh God, I'm having flashbacks to the urology department!
 3. I use a BDI-21 before my preamp for a touch of dirt but use the preamp for EQing as it's parametric and more versatile.
 4. I run mine at a high threshold and ratio - basically as a limiter to prevent clipping if I get silly.
 5. Frequency, Q and cut/boost controls on a multi-band parametric give enormous control over tone but they aren't something I'd want to be fiddling with during a gig. I've got a standard tone set up on the EQ and deviate from that with the right hand where necessary. From digging in deep over the bridge pickup to thumb strokes over the 12th fret would be the extremes of the range. I do it this way in case Lee Sklar ever shows up.
 6. I don't think I'd bother going to see a tribute act but provided they don't take themselves too seriously, I suppose it's pretty harmless. It becomes embarrassing when you can see they're obviously enjoying basking in someone else's glory. There are productive and unproductive ways of dealing with low self-esteem.
 7.
And you intend to use them under exactly those conditions.
Even if you don't, using a standardised power measurement method (and they do exist) would provide a basis for comparison. The unfortunate truth is that many manufacturers use peak or burst measurements but don't state the time period or distortion level.
 8.
The only lesson here is that watts mean nothing.
If you don't know the measurement method/conditions then yes, they mean nothing.
 9.
This might help. http://www.audiobant...ad.php?t=125660
Thanks but that was my thread from ages ago. I finally got them to phone back yesterday only to find out that the parts are no longer available They just hadn't bothered to tell me before.
 10.
So you are an Englishman in Czech Republic and you don't speak local language. What about local guys who could help you? Have you tried contacting either AKG technical support, or locally this guy: http://www.akg.com/s...anguage,EN.html ? I don't think that he does not speak English. You could send him an e-mail with a photo, or even call him. You can also browse through service manuals on akg.com and look for similar microphones (service manual for D 190 is missing there). EDIT: contact details: http://www.audiomast...kty.php?cid=553 Mark
I did find one guy there who spoke English who put me through to a guy who understood broken Czech. Ordered the parts more than 2 months ago and nothing yet. They don't return my calls either. I'm now harassing them by e-mail. Useless.
 11.
- a bodily impediment or similar - a fruit, vegetable or similar - a US president's family name
My first attempt resulted in "Limp Lettuce Lincoln"
 12. Had this Vox Cougar since 1970. Light, skinny neck, sounds a bit like elastic bands. Not my photo but identical to mine.
 13.
As far back as I can remember, ringing in the UK has always been 75V AC @25Hz
You're probably right. I may have confused it with the Australian system.
 14.
Some simple Allen keys will work for trussrods.
Not for his though. He needs a box (or tube) spanner.
 15.
In the UK, it's 48 V DC.
I was talking from UK experience - no idea what system they used or use here in CZ. 48V DC (or 50) is always present on the line. The 100+V AC (around 20Hz) was present only for ringing the bell. Don't know how it is now. I guess there aren't too many subscribers using old bakelite phones with electromagnetic bells so probably not necessary.
 16.
my tutor told me to keep my thumb on the pick up at all times?? We're all different i spose,
Exactly. That's why I thought I should edit the post. It seems to vary a lot from one player to another. It's pretty ingrained with me and I'm probably stuck with it now
 17. Well done! You obviously have a good feel for the timing. One small point - the E string is ringing at times when it should be damped. You probably should look at moving your right thumb's anchor point, i.e. pickup for E string, E string for A string, between E and A (muting both) etc. EDIT: at least that's how I solved it - better check with your teacher. No that I'm any kind of expert, but it's something I had to work on in the beginning. By the way, I don't wear makeup either
 18.
How did you manage to get electrocuted from a phone line?
They used to send over 100V AC down the line to ring the bell. Enough to give you a nasty tingle!
 19.
6mm=1/4 according to the conversion
1/4" = 6.35mm. Could be a tight squeeze!
 20.
i often find very helpful the fact that i can plug to the same socket in two diferent positions
Maybe I've missed something but that doesn't sound like a desirable feature. Equipment switches and fuses are on the active leg of the supply. If you reverse the plug, there's nothing to stop current flowing from active to earth in the event of a fault.
 21. The cheap leads are OK provided you use one of these to suppress the ectoplasmic emanations: http://www.hifi-advice.com/Shakti-stone-review.html
 22.
That's fallen out of use for some time. Some (few) countries still have them and you can still find one or anther in some very old houses but nobody's using them in modern construction nowadays
They're still standard here and apparently also in France, Belgium, Poland and Slovakia. I'm only 60Km from the Austrian border and got caught the first time I went down there. Czech plugs won't go into Austrian sockets but the other way is OK.
 23. Here's the third pin. The point being that European power sockets have an earth connection.
 24.
The jack on the amp should be the same in either case
230V into a jack - ouch! EDIT: I realise now it's a case of two nations divided by a common language
It's only UK that uses 3 pins.
3 pins everywhere in Europe unless it's a double insulated appliance.
 25. The only one I could find was in Austria but no details: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CGkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.connectionline.at%2Fshow.aspx%3Fsp%3D2%26url%3Dc_klinkenstecker&ei=DUMxUPv5J_L04QT-qoCoDQ&usg=AFQjCNGcYd4lvQ04tjOJVDMajpvb42zIeA&sig2=Hj2Ia6wD0787XOD9m9KFsw Your best option might be to have the jack socket removed and a switch installed in the existing hole. Easily reversible if you want to sell the amp.
