1. Ooooh, that's a toughie. Probably whichever one I saw first, the Warwick or the ATK, but I don't tend to get emotionally attached to instruments so the other one would be easily replaced.
2. Not expecting a very material-heavy Christmas in the Stephens household this year. What I'm really hoping for is: - To spend some time catching up with one of my favourite people in the whole wide world, who I haven't seen in four months - To spend some proper time with my family after three and a half months at university - To have some good old fashioned, bring the house down-style gigs while all various band members in the same place for a change - To have all the tracks for my (other) band's first EP all nice and recorded And finally: - To drink enough Bucks Fizz at breakfast to get trollied by lunchtime, then eat so much I explode Perfect.
3. First gig was some pretty simple church-style stuff after about 6 months. Can't remember how bad it was - probably very - but what I can remember was how good it felt to be up there, playing in front of people.
4. Another one for Beeswing, amazing song. Also, Behind Your Eyes and Intermission by Nine Black Alps.
5. My school swing band used to do "We Three Kings" in 5/4, that was always a good laugh.
6. Hmmm, this is at most a 10 minute walk from my house. I'll see if I can get a crew together - our student union's sh*te anyway!

From The Jam

Going to the Brighton date with my dad, can't wait. He saw them in Guildford on the tour earlier this year and apparently they were brilliant, just like the good ol' days.
8. Not a gig but a first rehearsal for 6 months. Been together for 2 years now and we've never had a rehearsal like it, everyone was enjoying it, played and wrote for three and a half hours non-stop and even waited until after to go the kebab shop! First gig for 6 months is in two days and I absolutely cannot wait.
9. Blimey, that's one hell of a first set up! Hello from Farnham, by the way.
10. £350? I'm dangerously tempted. And it would go so nicely with my black Corvette Standard...
11. Hi guys, Looking for somewhere to practice in (yeah, right) or around Farnham. None of us has a car, so we not only need somewhere near a train station but also somewhere fully-equipped (guitar/bass amps, PA and, crucially, a full drum kit - none of this "bring your own breakables" bollocks). Anyone know of anywhere suitable? Price isn't that important, but we are a bunch of tight-arse students Any help much appreciated, Joe
12. I'd give this a try if my dishwasher wasn't... well, me.
13. After finally getting hold of an adaptor to plug my bass in to the line in on my laptop, I've tried recording and it only plays through the left side of my headphones. I know the headphones work, and I've tried panning the track after recording it to no avail. Anyone know what the problem might be? Just an FYI, I'm using Cool Edit to record with. Any help very much appreciated, Joe
14. I can't remember what song made me want to play bass, all I can remember is that the behind-the-scenes stuff on Incubus' 'Morning View Sessions' DVD made me want to be in a band. It still inspires me every time I watch it. First bassline I ever learnt (can't believe I'm the first to say it - maybe I'm just the first to admit to it? ) was Smells Like Teen Spirit.
15. On Friday (the first day of the weekend, if you ask me) I bought a Behringer BDI 21 from our very own RichardH. And, after playing about with it a bit, I've come to the conclusion that yes, they really are that good.
16. If anything I'd probably say I'm a better drummer than I am bassist, I started playing both around the same time but had drum lessons (I'm self-taught at bass). I play drums in a band that gigs much more regularly than the band I play bass for (which I consider to be MY band), but I couldn't say which I prefer more. Sometimes it's bass, sometimes drums.
17. I started playing drums around the same time as bass, and picked up a guitar a year or so later. Personally, I think I'd be much less of a musician if I only played one instrument.

behringer bdi 21

Don't know about one on the old site, but I found this over at Talkbass which I thought was very interesting. Got one of these in the post at the moment (cheers Richard ), can't wait to try it out.
19. At the moment, the intro to Day of the Baphomets by The Mars Volta has got me completely flummoxed. I can play the first 30 seconds no problem, but when Juan starts going off on one I just cannot keep up, and I can't see that changing any time soon.
20.
Such a powerful version. Brings tears to my eyes everytime
+1, especially watching the video as well. Also: Paul Weller/Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower A Perfect Circle - Imagine

Ibanez bass

I tried an SRX 390 (4 string) the other day and I was really impressed, very easy to play (especially being used to a "tree trunk" Warwick neck). Great value basses IMO.
22.
All the pictures i've seen and videos have shown him playing warwick.
Hmmm, the mind boggles. I've only ever seen him playing Fender or Godlyke. He was playing Fender at the VMAs as well, apparently.
23.
Warwick! The guy from Mastodon plays one
He does? I thought he was back on Fenders Warwick all the way for me, I have the swamp ash version of that bass and I've yet to play anything better. I preferred it to the Spector I tried as well, but that was a lower model (a Performer, I think).
