1. Doesn't the Prodigy go somewhat in that direction? http://www.mesaboogie.com/amplifiers/bass/prodigy--strategy-tube-bass-amp-series/bass-prodigy-four-88/index.html 29lb isn't exactly lightweight, but it's a hell of a lot better than 29kg!
  2. Today received some strings from Iain. All good, fast delivery, great comms. Thank you!
  3.
Which brand are your socks? How allied to them are you? Do they own you?
Actually, I've disowned them.
  4. Beck is very cool. Other people are not. That is all.
  5.
...why pay £500 for a brand new one when you could pay £600 for a broken, second-hand one?
Well the brand new one has a bridge, so obviously there's no challenge there. Too easy! You want the moon on a stick you do, Jack!
  6. What I like to listen to and what I like to play are generally two different animals. I only listen to what I play in order to learn how to play it, or to come up with ideas for it or to rehearse with it.
  7.
I should have put the order in for my P ages ago, but I just can't make my mind up on the colour!
Let me help you... aged oly white with tort guard and rosewood slab board, rolled edges. Appropriately aged ashtrays can only help enhance the pics!
  8. Nicely done! We'll need to see pics, of course.
  9. Close enough. The bridge just gets in the way, really.

    obbm's feedback

The latest additions to my huge collection of obbm products are: one Speakon to Jack 1m cable and one Straight to Angled 5m instrument cable... what can I say that hasn't already been said? I've had many cables from Dave over the years. They don't get a particularly easy life frankly, and so far the failure rate is: Zero. Great product, top components and materials, professional assembly, superlative value and next-day tracked and signed-for delivery. Unsurpassed and I suspect, unsurpassable. Thanks again, Dave!
  11.
it was..but 90% of it was sh*te..IIRC
Possibly, but the remaining 10% was brilliant and wouldn't have happened any other way...
  12. Well I think it does no harm to get out there regardless. You might embarrass yourself but nobody's going to die and it is by far the quickest way to improve. Isn't that what punk was all about? Anyone can pick up an instrument and have a go?
  13.
In at the deep end. You'll learn so much.

It's never too soon to get into a band and start gigging.

Just get out there and do it.
I think a pattern is emerging... one that I agree with. When I joined my first band I couldn't play bass at all. In fact, I didn't even have a bass or any means to get one. It didn't seem to matter much, it all worked out in the end.
  14.
Not that I am aware of. This Kustom amp got a lot of positive comment on TB so I went searching and muziker.de was the only place I could find one, but I am more than pleased . I use this amp together with a Berg CN212 playing in a rock covers band and it really rocks my boat.
Hmm... thanks for that.
  15.
The Kustom KXB500 is the best micro I have used. Highly recommended and cheap as chips.
That's interesting... I'll go and have a look at it. Edit: Is there anywhere in the UK it can be got from?
  16.
I'm not sure I understand your sentence re my band, but Welsh Floyd rock
Well yes, that's what I meant.
  17.
Absolutely shameless. tut tut
Well it is, really. Couldn't resist. No-one reads the Gigs forum anyway!
  18.
Where and when?☺
http://basschat.co.u...ri-27-feb-2015/ Due to a bizarre coincidence I may even be playing with two bands that night. Apologies to all, I didn't mean to make this an extension of the gigs forum! As you were, etc. etc.
Chuffed for you Discreet! X
Thank you Madam Moderator... I hear your Pink Floyd tribute band carries all before it!!
  19. I'm playing in Denmark Street in central London this month... ...and have thus failed to understand the whole point of the thread.
  20. The Fusion is more than worth the extra cash. It's immense and you will have total control of your mids and then some.
  21.
...the whole tour (it's only 5 days).
Ah well, if it's only 5 days you should be OK. In that case, just take ten pairs of new M&S Y-Fronts and a 40-pack of 50mg Tramadol and you'll be fine.
  22. Take clean pants - WAY more clean pants than you think you'll ever need. Keep them dry in a separate case or bag close to hand. And take a LOT of high-quality, prescription-grade painkillers with you. When it goes tits-up and you're wondering why the hell you ever entertained the idea of going on tour, a few of these help you much better than a skinful of booze, which will make you punchy and depressed. Remember the two 'P's - Pants and Painkillers. That's all you need. Listen to your uncle discreet!
