Really enjoyed the afternoon - especially BigRedX's fretless Pedulla. That has to be the most amazing bass I've ever played! Good to put some faces to names. Look forward to the next one!

 3.
good choice, i love my 500, sounds awesome
+1. Never played the 6 string but the SR500 is fantastic
 4.
That's basically all that constitute Flea's basslines, speed and slap technique. He's not very melodic, so why does his lack of theory make his lines more impressive?
I have to disagree with that! Some of Flea's best stuff isn't fast and isn't slap. You mentioned Soul to Squeeze earlier as an example of melodic playing. Have a listen to Under the Bridge, Scar Tissue, Californication, The Zephyr Song etc. All melodic and all slap free. As I said in an earlier post, I think Flea is actually unfairly labelled as a one trick (slap playing!) pony.
 5.
Even for the few I think are "Over-rated" I respect greatly, Flea drives me up the sodding wall along with his army of Slap-a-likes, but he has built himself a great career, influenced countless bassists over the years and is still going strong, all you really can do is respect that
Agree with most of your post, but I actually think Flea has something of a bad press amongst us bassists. He's often held up as a ''one trick pony'' slap player, but in fact, a lot of RHCP's best stuff is completely slap free! Listen to songs like Californication, Soul to Squeeze, Scar Tissue, Dani California, and there's some really good, melodic (non-slap!) playing.
 6.
Don't know if it's maple but it's a similar light wood on my Lightwave Sabre A I haven't tried rounds on it but it had half rounds on it when I got it second hand and although they hadn't made physical marks on the board, they had left a lot of dirt on it. Luckily that cleaned off and now I've got a set of TI Jazz flats o there. As for difference in sound I couldn't reallt comment as the lightwave system is so different to a conventional pickup. However I currently have 3 main fretless basses all with different boards (maple, ebony and coated ebony), and IMO the pickups, electronics and strings used (in that order) have far more effect on the tone than the fingerboard material.
That looks awesome!
 7.
I'll be there! Anyone have any preferences as to what basses I'm going to bring form the list I posted earlier? Or I shall I just surprise you all?
Everything on your list looks amazing! I've never played a Pedulla, so that would be cool. And the 8 string is a bit different too!
 8. Nice - black / tort will look fantastic on that body shape. Looking forward to seeing pics!
 9.
We need more people /quote] lwtait and me are still both planning to go! I'll bring my Mark Bass combo, and probably MIA Jazz with audrere pre, Ibanez ATK 5 string, and Corvette $$. If anyone is interested I could bring a fretless Precision, plus my 70s reissue P with EMGs. Looking forward to it!
 10.
You might be getting a visit from me when its complete! lol.
You'll be more than welcome! Not sure of time scale generally yet - I'm expecting it to be a while, but it will be well worth the wait!
 11.
by far my favourite bass in the house, including my dad's 7.
Keep your bloody hands off them then! Simon1964 (aka lwtait's Dad!)
 12. I've had a change of plan on this - the more I spoke to Jon, the more the idea of a single cut grew on me. The ones I tried at Jon's were amazingly comfortable to play, and the shape seemed a bit more ''custom'' to me than a Jazz. So, I've finally agreed a modified spec: 4 string bolt on singlecut 34" scale 24 frets black walnut body Asian striped ebony drop top sycamore veneer between top and body gloss finish coat 5 piece laminate neck (maple / wenge) birdseye maple fingerboard (no fingerboard face dots) matching asian striped ebony headstock facing black side dots satin finish on neck delano hybrid MM +J pickup system delano hybrid BED circuit + passive tone control (vol, pan, treble, mid, bass, mode switch) black hardware individual bridge units gotoh tuners Its been said on here before, but Jon is a fantastic guy to deal with. Will post some pics in due course!
 13. Schallers now sold. Rest still available!
 14.
If I were to use letters to describe the sounds I would type the following: Precision => 'pohmmm' or 'bohmmm' (treble on/rolled off). Jazz => 'tvvvvv' or 'dvvvvv' (treble on/rolled off). Dan.
LOL! I've just read that out loud, and its surprisingly accurate!
 15.
I already have a 5 string Warwick $$, but I've been wanting a new bass lately just for a bit of variation. I'm just wondering would this be worth it
I've got a four string $$ as well as the ATK305. To me they're quite different basses. I think of my $$ as essentially a Jazz on steroids, but it doesn't really do stingray sounds (its about all it doesn't do!). I think the ATK would complement the Warwick nicely. Someone has mentioned string spacing - it is around 17.5 mm from memory, so it is pretty tight, but I suspect no tighter than your $$ fiver
 16.
Hi All Cort GB 94 active coil split etc. Bought this a couple of weeks back paid £500 my dilemma is this. As someone new to bass playing have I bought the wrong bass ? ie to many bells and whistles, variables etc. It was a choice between this and a Fender Jag bass and I went for bling and the fact it sounded great when it I heard it being played by some one else in shop. Some how think I would have been better off with non active P bass or the Jag. I hate joining forums then selling something straight away but feel that I should go back start again with a simpler option (for me anyway) It may appear in for sale forum soon as a trade for P Bass or jazz unless I'm being a numpty and should just persevere ?
I think its a great choice. And the Jag is active anyway isn't it?
 17. I bought one a couple of months ago as I was looking for a cheapish 5 string. Very impressed - nice stingray vibe, but at a fraction of the cost.
 18.
In a word, awesome. Nice and light, well balanced, two humbuckers, active preamp and a 3 way coil tap on each humbucker pretty much means there isnt a bass sound you couldnt get from it. As long as you're comfy with the modern chunky warwick neck I say get one.
+1. Very, very nice basses. The most versatile bass I've owned.
 19. That fretboard is going to look amazing! And I love the top - I've been talking to Jon about a build with a striped ebony top. That looks a fantastic bit of wood!
 20.
Interesting as my guitarist recently purchased a Gibson guitar from PMT for £1600 and they charged him £30 for the straplocks aswell. He also said the bass section wasn't impressive.
Did he ask them to throw in the straplocks? Whenever I've been to PMT they've been more than happy to do a deal.
 21. +1 for PMT. Easily the best place to go in Birmingham. Best stock and most helpful staff.
