    I've decided to sell my OLP 5 String. Black with Maple Board and matching headstock. I added the shell pickguard - I've got an all black guard which I will include in the sale, which gives it a rather fetching ''stealth'' look! This is a very nice passive 5 string, but I simply don't play it enough to justify keeping it. I'm looking for £100 plus postage.     I confess to be completely ignorant on these matters, so could do with some advice! I mainly use a Mark Bass 1x15 combo for gigging. I have an old Ashdown MAG 2x10 cab sitting around never getting used, and was wondering whether I could use that as an extension cab? Problem is, the combo is rated 500w @ 4 ohms, and 300w @ 8 ohms (and according to the Mark Bass website has an impedence of 8 ohms). The Ashdown cab is 200w, 8ohms. Can I safely use the Ashdown cab, or am I going to cause damage to the cab, amp, or both?! I'm sure its a bloody stupid question, but as I say, I am completely ignorant in these matters, so thanks in advance!

    To be honest, I would look at 300w for pub gigs. Anything smaller could struggle without going through the PA. I used an Ashdown MAG 300 combo until recently, and found it to be a good, solid gigging amp. I've just upgraded to a Mark Bass combo, and would highly recommend them if you can run to the extra cost. Fantastic sound, loud, and a fraction of the weight of the Ashdown. Worth every penny.

Have to disagree on the Jazz. The S1 gives the jazz a slightly fatter, rounder sound which sits really well in the mix. It gives a passive jazz some balls. Personally, if I was buying a Jazz, the question of the S1 switch would not make much difference for me. If you don't like it, you don't have to use it.

They are quite deep, and chunky (at least my $$ is). On the other hand, I find the profile much more comfortable than any of my other basses. It actually feels easier and more comfortable than my Precision and Stingray. If you've been playing a Dean 8 string, I doubt you'll find the neck on a 4 string $$ any problem.

    Definately try first, but IMHO the Corvette $$ is a fantastic bass. Very versatile, and very playable. So far as price is concerned, I managed to get Sound Control in Birmingham down to under £700 (from memory, something like £100 off the price it was marked), so worth haggling. Personally, though, I would look at buying secondhand. Warwicks sem to be going for very little money at the moment.

    I recently bought the MP3 version, having previously used the CD version. Both are really useful. On balance I prefer the MP3 version simply as its so conveninet to use. Smaller and more portable, and as others have said, the rechargable battery is a big plus over the CD version, which eats batteries.

    + 1 fpr PMT in Birmingham. Excellent stock, and friendly helpful staff. Easily the best service in Brum. Otherwise, Sound Control have a pretty good stock, but the staff can seem a bit disinterested at times. There's also Fairdeal Music, near the Bull ring. They have a reasonable range of stuff, and are pretty helpful. Haggle though - they will ususually move from marked prices. The other shop worth a mention in City Music, just around the corner from Sound Control. They're small, and the bass stock is quite limited. They're friendly and helpful though, and its worth popping in if you're at Sound Control.

    The OLP really takes some beating for the money. the passive is excellent in its own right, but if you can afford the little bit extra for the active Tony Levin, its worth it - fantastic instrument for the price.

For the sake of completeness, I don't think the Badass III will be a direct replacement on that - Highway 1 have the traditional 5 hole fixing, so you would need the Badass II for a direct replacement (in fact, doesn't the Badass II come as standard on them?).
