1.
Kind-of bass related, my boss (who buys everyone a small gift) got me a set of ice-cube moulds, in the shape of guitars, one of which is a Precision bass.
Thanks for the reminder; my son bought me that a couple of years ago - I'll go dig them out.
 2. Wouldn't it be a Lapland - I mean Lakland?
 3.
Is that really an american term?
'Fraid so, in the UK a Principle - for those that have any - would be a Don.......... ............... or is it a Dean........? .............. either way - your vice-principle was the deputy headteacher.
 4.
When I'm slouched on the sofa, it works just fine.
So far that's the only position I've found that works for a bowl-back.
 5.
re-issue about re-issues
Bless you.
 6. Unless you're in a band with a huge number of members are you sure you'll have a need? Being in a band is all about communication, keeping it more "remote" could lead to rows and detachment. It's just as easy to plan ahead any time that you meet up, just about all phones have a calendar facility in them now. IMHO of course.
 7.
using an overhead projector I outlined some pictures on the walls and got the kids to "paint by numbers" filling in the outline.
Brilliant that people are still doing that, I was first shown that idea in the early 80's while working on a C4 programme. It made for very quick but interesting backgrounds for the project in question. The next one was an OHP cell of Charlie Brown & his gang doing a print workshop that filled a whole wall for the actual people to refer back to. Most recent time I've used it was in May this year As for the OP, yup, I've also got a chord chart poster, a massive enlargement of the "Slade Alive" cover and that poster of the NYC sky-scraper builders sat on a girder eating sandwiches. Stacks of hooks to make leads easily findable & an Ikea bookshelf bolted to the wall.
 8.
Most of the JB's I have seen have had 6/8 rotaries.
The ones with the extras were usually made for a specific person, he offered a few options as to what the extra pots did. The ones without are production models for selling "off the peg". Since he was a custom builder there's probably more of those "with" than "without".
 9.
Cheers Bug Stu, that is the very one!!! Told Her Who Must Be Ignored it was a John birch. What a fabulous looking bass Karl.
"Ash" of this very forum was trying to sell one last year - which (IIRC) was an element in the controversy regarding a Mr Hall (not liking the vast superiority of the JB over his own product). Until recently there was a sunburst one also on Ebay which didn't sell; I think the seller shot himself in the foot by only showing one of it's pickups - thereby avoiding the Rickenwaffe thought police. AFAIK Jim never gigged the Rick copy - I only ever saw it on TV appearances.
 10.
WHAT WAS THAT "RICK"? and yes I know I'm shouting!!!!
Jim did have a John Birch Rick, a pale yellow one, on a lengthy trial in around 73-74.
 11.
an output boost rather than a mid boost.
That's what I've got built into my bass; JayDee made it (the circuit) it's only the size of a large stamp. As you say - it's quite a simple circuit - so he told me; I wouldn't know.
 12.
That sounds interesting. Hope we don't wait too long.
He lives in Denmark now as does the writer, which with the i'net etc shouldn't be an issue but could be logistically. He has just found a willing publisher so hopefully shouldn't be too long in arriving. After his crash in '73 he still suffers now from no sense of smell, little sense of taste & very sporadic short term memory. To combat that he took to writing a daily diary, with constant reminders about what to do at one point, even now to "change your socks" supposedly. He's by far the friendliest and most amenable of all the band - and there may be a few curtain-openers.
 13.
Some lovely stories going on here...please don't stop!!
Do you want the one about the very large roadie; if you ain't heard it, it may put you off your dinner...........It has been on here previously a while ago.
 14. There was a docu on TV a couple of weeks ago; some worthy reckoned there are several asteroids/comets out there which if they came at us would give us around 8 minutes warning before impact..... ............. the larger than averagely proportioned lady hasn't started singing just yet..........
 15.
I lost a girlfriend once as she got pissed off to my fingers 'playing air bass' on her back
So, what's the best girlfriend for metal?
 16.
Morning all, anyone know any good spray/refinish gurus?
You've got a grand master of it right there in Brum in the form of JayDee; but he's not cheap.
 17.
Now that is seriously out of order
It had to be done, sorry..........
 18. After 9 pages I've been kinda hoping that sooner or later a newbie would come on here and say something along the lines of......... "I'M the "arsehole in the pub."...... actually my real name is Jimmy Page, how very dare you etc etc."
 19.
OK, really going to stick my neck way out on the line here....... Oasis!!!!!!!!! Now the reasoning; I think they almost single handedly broke down a generation gap in music and made it OK for a new generation to like old music. And I mean the general public, as on a music forum it is easy to forget that the wider public don't always view music the way we do. Don's tin hat and flees the country for Christmas
Cough, cough
 20.
When I was 14 I got to see my bass hero at the time who was playing with Eric Clapton at the time - it was Nathan East. It was my first ever concert and it was at the SECC in Glasgow and I couldn't hear a single thing he played. I was so disappointed
To be fair the SECC is a bloody awful venue acoustically. Maybe they've found way s to improve it in recent years but I went there for several gigs and it was never a great listening experience, especially when it was at it's max size.
 21.
Eric Clapton. Well he changed my world
In the guitar docu that preceded the Seville Guitar Legends in '91 (??) Clapton said that Chuck Berry was the first person to play a multi-stringed, as opposed to picking, guitar riff. Chuck in turn cites Bo Diddley; so I'd go with either of those two based on the influences either of them created.
 22.
I'd be using wood adhesive for that type of repair.
Yup, definitely - any overspill wipes off easy with no residue, some epoxy's are more stubborn.
 23.
Musically, i like them, but lyrically... it's gets a bit too 'texas' for my liking.
Is that in a bad way, rather than a ZZ Top kinda way?
 24.
As for the bridge pickup. It won't be mounted on the bridge base plate like most Telecasters. Rather, it's going to be mounted directly into the body wood - just like Andy's guitar. In this pic you can see that there's no baseplate mounted pickup screws on the Tribute model.
Fantastic! Hugely enjoyable thread! Is that an earth wire at the middle bottom edge of the bridge due to there being no screws on the pickup to connect it? I'd spotted the lack of pickup screws on the original & was going to ask about that; loving your attention to detail! Subscribed.
 25.
I defy you to say where I said what you did or did not believe, Ooooh touche, two can play at the game nah-nah-na-nahh-nahhhh. I said if you believe that. Which actually is quite different .
Really can't stand not having everyone agree with you can you? Surreal. I'm going to leave this now since it's taken you another 3 pages in one day to reveal your true mentality; now that you descended as far as you have; I have better things to do. In your little constricted mind you can puff your chest out now & say "I've won - yay me!"
