1.
Tough call, did Stax treat their artist better than Motown? Blue
I heard a lot of good stories about Stax and the ones that are left are good friends but I know nothing about the dealings in Motown. It would take an insider knowledge of both to say.
 2.
Haha! I hope this is a joke about what or should I say who from eBay?
You just never know when that empty hole in the headstock of an ex-7stringer might come in handy to hang it up!
 3. I've got both, but Stax was ground-breaking and is the one that moves me so much. Cropper's possibly coming back over again next Autumn His stories as well as his playing is/are great.
 4. You'd think that while working on a headstock they'd take the time to cut the string slots deeper on the nut, for ease of fretting those open chords, especially for guys with big hands.
 5.
I know it shouldn't be asked really.
true - it's not even a question.
 6.
Although I was born in the UK, I grew up elsewhere and this fascination with supposed "class" is equally fascinating and baffling. From the outside looking in it looks like a self-imposed categorisation which doesn't exist except in the minds of those who subscribe to the notion. I can't think of any other country where the social origin they were born into in would be factored into the potential or authenticity of a band. It's an amazing concept to think of yourself in that way.
^this - talking about class is a sign of having none.
 7.
Could it be a Baldwin? I'm sure they had one that looked like that, though I'm not sure of the model name.
Burns baldwin Vibraslim?
 8. This one. not including the Marshall 2x15........... .......... and a couple of weeks ago I had a small sherry with it's previous owner, oh how we laughed ........
 9. An unpressurised "snow" aerosol made for Aerosmith in the mid-90s during the toxic twins peak (snow - geddit?). It was for distribution to major stars of the time, De Niro, Michael Jackson etc. I worked on the production team. This i'net pic hasn't got the original lid; it should have a sticker round it.
 10. Never had a problem with DPD, wouldn't touch Parcelforce with a JayDee because the insurance would be invalid. Personally with a JayDee I'd plan well ahead and get a cheap train ticket and hotel (if necessary) and make the trip with it myself, John's always very welcoming to customers. I've done that from Edinburgh when JayDee rewired my John Birch. One time I went Mark King "popped in" and if I'd been there two days before John told me I'd have met Tony Iommi.
 11.
maplin http://www.maplin.co...ver-paint-n36ba
I've used the Maplins stuff with excellent results. My John Birch had an unearthed all-over rear scratchplate which was a static magnet. It worked but you only get a seriously tiny little bottle of it.
 12. You could always spend all day on a train (each way) for the peace of mind of knowing it's safe, the client has seen it & checked it over - and you've been paid, for upwards of £150.
 13.
He didn't bother me too much until he performed on TFI Friday (I think!) wearing a Celtic scarf. Football is Glasgow is such a divisive thing - people have quite literally been killed for wearing the wrong colours. Rod Stewart is similar, kick drum skin is a massive Celtic badge and his gigs in Glasgow are a sea of green and white. I don't mind some his stuff, but you'd never catch me dead at a gig! No objections to anyone supporting a football team, but keep it out of your stage show - especially when a large chunk of said team's fans are idiots. (Before I get a virtual knife in my back, both sides of Glasgow are as bad!)
This is so true, not long before I left Scotland a guy was thrown off the 12th floor of a tower block - for wearing a Rangers shirt in a Celtic area.
 14.
McCartney doesn't count. Even if he died today, everything he's ever done has "trite" and "banal" and "cliche-ridden" stamped all over it in 20-foot letters. Iconic? Never was, never will be IMHO
While I find 99.9% of The Beatles as a group, recordings boring or unmoving I do have respect for McCartney's playing in that he does do a lot of tasty lines, few of which are generic, and did it consistently for many years - which isn't bad for a guy who can't read or write music and according to his ex still can't. There must be a lot of natural born talent in there.
 15.
My nomination: Jimi Hendrix.
While I'm a fan but not overly so I have read from two who were there or knew him at the time that he was a mess making uncommercial new experimental material at the time he died. So maybe his bubble had burst by then.
 16. Took the Mrs & met up with a good friend and saw The Blues Brothers Band at Ronnie Scott's. Apparently they're hoping to come back over next year some time.
 17. Simple Minds closed Edinburgh's Usher Hall for quite a length of time and also stopped rock concerts there due to being so loud that the ancient stucco ceiling decoration started falling onto the crowd. The concerts started again because I saw The Moody Blues there a few years later.
 18. "Rush" by Strife. People laugh because of their hair, then they hear Gordon Rowley's bass playing and the laughing stops.
 19.
GAS stalks the land like, er... a great big stalking thing.
What? Like celery? - that has big stalks.
 20.
I love the way Johnny Rotten pronounces the word vacant in Pretty Vacant, a definite play on words there methinks.
I read at the time that it was his way of having a pop back at the BBC who had banned their previous singles. If you watch the session re-recorded for TOTP his pronunciation is even more - pronounced.
 21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbBcXvKvB08 "The guy was a freakin' metronome", Cropper on Al Jackson Jr.
 22.
The previous owner of my bass did very very bad job while installing flushmount straplocks. Screw heads are stripped and I could manage to unscrew only one. So I need help about how to unscrew the other one. There are some coventional methods but they will not work because I don't have an easy access to screw in the straplock. Any body had a similar problem and how did they manage to unscrew?
Yeah, took out a shredded screw head with one of these, use a hand screwdriver - not electric. http://www.screwfix....piece-set/18643
I would like to fill the holes up as I much prefer normal straplocks over flushmount. I am thinking of using some sawdust/wood dust and glue to fill them up. Will it be strong enough? Is there any other/better methods?
It's too big a hole for the sawdust and glue trick. As others have said - dowel is the way to go. A good timber merchant would have some hardwood dowel, remember to file the grooves down the side of the dowel as has also already been said, it lets out excess glue and also allows a bit of "give" if it's too snug a fit - which can cause the guitar wood to split around the hole. Sand it flush and get one of those felt washers to go under the strap stud and only you will know it's there. I've done both jobs and it's not as hard as it sounds.
 23.
So, am I right in guessing that it's held up in a customs shed somewhere? If so, how do I find out? Or has it just vanished and I should claim my money back?
Could be; I had a part sent from the US years ago which seemingly didn't turn up. It wasn't until 3+ weeks after it arrived in the UK before I got a letter from the RM duty/customs people saying they wanted duty paying before it would be released. If the consignment number isn't recognised here all you can do is get the seller to check where and who by the parcel was delivered to.
 24.
All the basses I like are brilliant, and all the ones you like are crap.[/thread]
Needs a pic.........
 25.
Trollolololol.
Naah, could be a Vox.........
This thread might even reach the realms of a Stick in the Backer thread.
Given enough Tim, all things are possible here.
