  1. [quote name='Mykesbass' timestamp='1457900140' post='3002870'] Funny, until today I thought I was pretty much on my own with this one, but it seems to have quite a bit of love on this thread [/quote] makes me grin every time I hear it; the rhyme of "work" with "clerk".
  2. Family tradition [media]http://youtu.be/RvaiwQh7zBk[/media]
  3. [quote name='mike f' timestamp='1457449102' post='2998689']Motorhead didn't strike me as being too loud; just good n loud, if you know what I mean?[/quote] It's the only way to feel the noise apparently. Speaking of "feel the noize", Slade definitely the loudest consistently for me. Nod & Jim took keen interest in their sound & were always the most involved at sound-checks. At one gig at Blackpool Norbreck castle their sound guy Charlie was very upset that the ceiling was so low he couldn't use his full 26k PA system. He used to regularly complain of having a headache and was often on the cadge for aspirin. edit: Saw The Blockheads last year and for the size of the venue (Kendal arts Centre) they were incredibly loud.
  4. I was once stood watching Slade's tour manager sat on the stage while the band sound-checked. He had a decibel meter. "It's says 126 decibels", he said after, "That's the same as sitting underneath Concorde as it takes off", I blame 36 Slade concerts and a dozen or more Motorhead concerts for my tinnitus. Slade's drummer Don has hearing difficulties, AFAIK the rest are OK. Strange how it affects some folk and not others.
  5. [quote name='3below' timestamp='1457297460' post='2997187'] Here's the useful tip Tie some fishing line or strong cord securely to the shank of the switch. Double strand, good length. Carefully undo the mounting bezel - this is where you slip and scratch the bass so use masking tape, cardboard etc. The switch can be brought out of the f hole and fettled.[/quote] This is how I've seen it done. When it came to undoing and replacing the switch bezel they put maskking tape all round it and used a socket from a socket set but without the handle on it, just finger-tight. On the OP job it would be easy to use a finger poked inside to hold the switch in place while it's tightened.
  6. [quote name='Bilbo' timestamp='1457262320' post='2996749'] I did a great pencil drawing of Steve Howe years ago (like 30). Don't know what happened to it. [/quote] Shame! And that was in the "good old days" before having a home scanner was easily possible. Didn't you even take photos of it? [quote name='AndyTravis' timestamp='1457264129' post='2996782'] [url="https://instagram.com/p/BCnCt77uQUB/"]https://instagram.com/p/BCnCt77uQUB/[/url] So I started the Jamerson [/quote] Looking good so far - also looks like it's going to be about life-size??
  7. I was in York a few years ago and there was an artist on the market who seemed to be doing very nicely selling originals and prints of her own work. I bought a small print of Lemmy, (crappy phone pic) I recently was loaned an oil painting that I did of Bowie in 1979 for my art A-level, which I then sold. I'm seriously considering taking it up again, though I don't think it would ever get a worthwhile income alone. I suppose it depends - as in playing - what market you find and getting a lucky break.
  8. [quote name='spyder' timestamp='1457197545' post='2996296'] Come on guys.... we ( musicians ) spend hundreds if not thousands of pounds on great gear and you listening to their creative output on cr*p. Get a real hifi system, sit back and enjoy. [/quote] ^ This, very much this!
  9. [quote name='Fozza' timestamp='1457081980' post='2995053'] When Bowie did Starman on Top of the Pops he sang the vocal live and slipped in a reference to T.Rex's Get It On. [/quote] Which in turn referenced Chuck Berry's "Little Queenie" with the line "meanwhile, I'm still thinkin" during the fade out.
  10. His Roland keyboard had the letters altered to spell "Ronald" too. Brilliant!
  11. Slade's "Skweeze me, Pleez me" from '73 has the lyric "Take Me bak Ome You got it all wrong Cos we sing that as well".
  12. The only time I saw them live I found their drummer to be very interesting when they were promoting the album that featured....... [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_HSlNHNZuQ[/media] I also caught Ron's eye and tried to out-stare him - I lost.
  13. [quote name='Roland Rock' timestamp='1456904925' post='2993292']I fear for Les' arteries! To be fair, "donner" is forgivable as it is pronounced that way*[/quote] It's also a German word, which I assumed was Les's clever way of describing his diets after-effects.
  14. [quote name='Dad3353' timestamp='1456799205' post='2992383'] Some perspective on 'Beatlemania' ... [url="http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/sep/29/beatlemania-screamers-fandom-teenagers-hysteria"]Beatlemania: 'the screamers' and other tales of fandom ...[/url] ... and yes, I was there; it could have been any group of that era who rode that wave up to the Ed Sullivan Show. It was the Beatles.............[/quote] Damn! You were doing so well - until you [i]"gone and spoiled it all, by saying something stoopid like"[/i] [quote name='Dad3353' timestamp='1456799205' post='2992383']Just sayin'.[/quote]
  15. [quote name='hiram.k.hackenbacker' timestamp='1456774312' post='2992186'] Holy batcrap! [/quote] Hooray & huzzah - though not necessarily in that order!
  16. [quote name='BigRedX' timestamp='1456773918' post='2992179'] Have a look at my reply above. Check your code by clicking the light switch icon top left in the reply window which stops the Forum from trying to parse the code and shows what has actually been typed/copied/automatically generated. [/quote] Cool - that opens another tangent - in Pbucket the IMG link doesn't need the "picture box" icon to be clicked, just a direct paste. Using the box generates the double IMG you mention. Whereas the "Direct" link does need the box icon.
  17. [quote name='BigRedX' timestamp='1456773318' post='2992170'] No mine is exactly what HJH was trying to do except that I accessed the photo URL directly and then made my own IMG tags in the Basschat reply. [/quote] Interesting......... I can't replicate that & get a result!
  18. [quote name='hiram.k.hackenbacker' timestamp='1456772842' post='2992154'] No bother at all. Just a snap I took on my iPhone of the amp I have for sale. I presume with that link information you cannot post that pic either? [/quote] I made your pic (assuming this link is correct and what you intended?) into a 500px wide png file in Pshop. This link is from my Pbucket account though. I couldn't (and didn't try) access your accounts from the info on the file. Edit: Looks like a similar route to BRX.
  19. [quote name='hiram.k.hackenbacker' timestamp='1456772280' post='2992146'] " class="ipsImage" /> Nope. Doesn't like Imgur either. [/quote] Hope you don't mind - I had a bit of a nosey with your link & it does direct to the pic, but for Pbucket it's a big pic - nearly 2MB? Might be something to do with it, though I'm no expert.
  20. [quote name='Dad3353' timestamp='1456770791' post='2992118'] I use Imgur (it's free...)...............Hope this helps...[/quote] This seems to be the general consensus on TGP too - lots of people Stateside giving up on P'bucket there, one person with Mac issues linking, the rest with dropouts, freezing and stacks of ads.
  21. [quote name='BottomE' timestamp='1456770423' post='2992111'] ............then look at the Beatles who were pretty rough looking/sounding in comparison - the US seemed to love this.[/quote] Probably a slightly more acceptable image to the US mainstream than the Stones of the time, and "The Animals" certainly didn't live up to their name image-wise in the same year as The Beatles first appearance..
  22. [quote name='hiram.k.hackenbacker' timestamp='1456770454' post='2992112'] I'm really confused now Big Stu! I looked at what BRX said and the only link I can see that has an "i" before the number is the Direct link. The others have an "s". [/quote] It is strange - but you're not alone, I've seen someone on TGP with the same issue as you and paid subs were mentioned as an explanation. It might be that Photobucket just haven't got round to applying the settings to my account yet. I take it your Pbucket window looks like this one and the link you're using is the one circled? The "IMG" link that BRX mentions is the one below it. And, obviously that you're clicking the picture icon - in the BC post window?
  23. [quote name='hiram.k.hackenbacker' timestamp='1456767387' post='2992051'] I'm sure I used to use the Direct link and when I clicked on it, it used to say COPIED in the box.[/quote] [quote name='BigRedX' timestamp='1456769200' post='2992076']The link you want is the IMG one. The format should look like this: [code][IMG]http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n249/BigRedX/Forum-Banner-2_zpszyj7v3et.gif[/IMG][/code] [/quote] I've always used the Direct link too, on the grounds that the Image link more easily gives out your Photobucket address which, if you haven't passworded it, gives folk access to all of your content, which some users may find inappropriate. Test for a Direct link P'bucket pic with no Flash installed..............
  24. [quote name='BottomE' timestamp='1456769605' post='2992087'] Saw an interview with Neil Sedaka on BBC4. He said that the moment the Beatles (and the Stones) arrived his career and many others like him (Connie Francis, Pat Boone etc) just stopped! Dead. From earning huge amounts of money (in those days) he ended up touring northern working mens clubs in England which were not for the weak minded. His experience was that the Beatles impact was enormous in the US and changed everything for ever! And he should know cos hes a pretty smart fella. [/quote] Depends what you call "Stopped dead" I suppose and who the audience was that he tailored his comment for. Growing up in the 70s I can remember him being on TOTP a few times and "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" and "Laughter In The Rain" being two of his 70s hits. That's just from memory.
  25. [quote name='blue' timestamp='1456768657' post='2992064'] I edit because I always have a ton of misspelled words. Blue [/quote] Yeah - I noticed; items like (once again)[b] your opinion[/b] "not being ooen to discussion".
