1.
Pardon me for saying but I think you've just collected that one yourself. Why are fellow members being targetted? Is this not an adult discussion?
You're excused, more out sympathy than anything else, due to your inability to even grasp the meaning of my quote that you quoted. In answer to your question, and since you also missed that point of mine; it stopped being an adult discussion when Blue, yet again, though continuing a strong tradition of his of several previous threads, stated that anyone who played electric guitar did so because of the Beatles - or something to that effect - based on his incredible pin-sharp and super advanced ability to detect professionalism at the age of 8 at a one-off concert when everyone else including the band themselves said the only thing they could hear clearly was girls screaming.
 2.
Are you saying that an 8 year old would have been to young to appreciate and understand what was going on? If yes, you might be right. But not when it pertains to this 8 year old. Blue
heck - I guess that means you're really special!
 3.
The only problem, Big Stu is it's true - and they got banned from the playground at my school owing to disputes and the like. No doubt you wouldn't believe it because it wasn't in the NME or some other font of all pop history.
While nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses are a wonderful thing, I doubt with all my heart that they were legal tender, no matter how seriously you meant it, There's only very few providers that have ever produced legal tender in recent years (I've worked at one of them) and a printer making Beatles collectors cards has never been one of them.
 4.
As The Boss is not answering my calls at the moment I'll have to ask you. Which one influenced him the most?
Dang - probably not paid his bill again............
 5.
One could argue that the early wave of British neo-bluesers (Stones, Animals, Them) are of equal importance to the Beatles in the wider musical scene.
Ask All-American hero Bruce Springsteen which one influenced him the most. That Lonnie Donegan has a lot to answer for too, since the strawman "influence" word was brought in again.
 6.
I'm with Blue
This doesn't surprise me - based entirely on this.......
I was 8 or 9 when I experienced Beatlemania at primary school and I wasn't joking when I said Beatles cards were legal tender
Hey Blue!! The "Dr" is chasing after your Sweeping Flashing BS Over-statement Of The Year crown.
 7.
Over my head? Blue
Exactly, just like The Beatles would have been to an eight year old kid, but there's been another 50+ years of fading memories about that concert to enhance, enlarge and exaggerate since way back then. NB. I'm only talking about this alleged "Road to Damascus" revelation at a concert by an eight year old kid who was "impressed by their professionalism" Any general fan-dom that came after is understandable for Cliff's sake!! Within the context and realm that an eight year old (and after) kid would muster.
 8.
At 8 or 9 years old they had my mind open. I was more than ready at that age. Blue
Pity they didn't get to know this child prodigy - they could have had their minds opened without resorting to LSD or any other drugs. Maybe they'd have opened up a whole new avenue of production; The Blue Album, Blue Submarine, Maxwell's Blue Hammer, Bluebird OR........ you did? You inspired "Blue Jay Way"!!
 9.
- Tthe fact, that I didn't know what an electric guitar or bass was until I saw them. - Maybe it was how I was impressed and amazed how professional their act was. Blue
So I presume you saw them live more than once or is this grossly overstating the facts that an eight year old kid saw? Wait, no, because they stopped touring shortly after.
 10. Check out Dennis Marshall - he's near Dunfermline, builds his own amps, pre-amps, pedals etc. Worked for a lot of big names. He's always busy but likes talking electronics so should be able to advise/help. http://www.dennismarshall.co.uk/index.htm
 11.
Costello? Nah (the NME may have said so for a few weeks in the late 70s). The problem with anyone using the NME as source material is that
........... it had Charles Shaar Murray working there for fart oo long.
 12.
If your standing vertical and playing an electric bass guitar in any kind of rock band you are influenced by The Beatles whether you know it or not and whether you like it or not. Blue
Just because you keep saying that it's not going to be any less BS than the first time you said it. Though to be fair - you were only 8.
 13.
Exactly, if you weren't there it's hard to explain. Actually impossible to explain. And I believe the level of Beatlemania was a lot higher in the States. Blue
Didn't you say you were about 8 years old at the time?
 14.
You had to be there apparently or something like that......
I've got their Blue album.
 15. In my limited experience with valve amps (one Hiwatt 200 with KT88s) when I had fuses blow it turned out to be a sign that a pre-amp valve was about to go - it did, I replaced it and no more blown fuses. Could have been coincidence though. If it persists check out the local recommended amp techs. David Pye of Preston was/is great - but he's moved near Blackpool now.
 16.
But all the same ...Diva fit eh?....never done that before
You lose points for not having, or at least hiring for one night, a sound-man to specifically rant at first.

 18. Yeah, Mod forbid that an admin might falsely accuse a pro of displaying racism at a gig and despite in being only one man's word against another refuse to retract or clarify the matter.
 19.
** that and the fact that sunburst P basses look totally cool, in my humble opinion
......... and you were doing so well too!
 20.
There was someone only on Monday criticising Adam Clayton for being talentless. I thought to myself, well who's playing in one of the biggest bands for the last 30 years, you or him . Here, post #4, made me smile, http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry3107721
Yeah, I saw that, as mentioned in my reply #33 of this thread. What tickles me is I know a handful of fully pro players and had extended conversations with a few others and I've never once heard anyone of any note say anything derogatory about a fellow pro. There must be some kind of glass ceiling that you get through where you just live and let live.
 21.
I lived in Ireland at the time and found myself working in Dublin after I finished school in 1980.
..... and in that year........
 22.
I really do not get the jealousy thing, can I not just be allowed to not enjoy a band without being anything other than just not enjoying it? Does there have to be a reason, jealous, ignorant, not musically educated enough, etc etc?
Music forum tradition, just be grateful you weren't told you just don't "get it".
 23.
NancyJohnson described Adam Clayton as talentless about two days ago.
Yeah, I saw that but it was one comment, and it was called out soon after. I wouldn't class one comment as "vitriol" as per the OP.
 24.
Adam Clayton.........apparently talentless? Mark King.......sounds like a bag of spanners? Matt Bellamy......nods his head funny!! Why so much hate for these and other players? It seems you have to be, oh say, Paul Turner, Pino or Jaco et al to get positive comments on here......or to avoid negative comments! Now I'm not a U2 fan by any stretch of the imagination but what has Clayton done to earn such vitriol? I don't know if he writes or co writes the songs but he does just what is needed, what's wrong with that? Please someone tell me? This place cracks me up sometimes!!
Got any links? can't say as I've seen it - especially on BC.
 25. During a nostalgia attack I once bought one of the Marshall circa1976 Treble n Bass 100w tranny heads (for £45 iirc). To play safe I sent it to Marshall for a service. I spoke with their head tech about what they do for £17 about 20 years ago and they checked all the caps, trannies and replaced all of the front knobs with shiny new ones. My sons band still use that head as a keyboard amp.
