1. Had my first ever bass lesson last night from a real live person. It was great. Inspired by Nigels lack of fear i am going to have a go at this track and put a little bit of soloing on it! I have a more up tempo version but in the same key.
 2. Anusol
 3. Some great stuff on here. Thanks for making it a sticky.
 4. On my US 2009 fretless i have a hole. On the HW1 i have no hole. I care not as don't want to look like Jaco. I really prefer a scratchplate on a Jazz Bass.
 5.
Absolutely horrendous gig at Ye Old Crown, Edenbridge. Please avoid like the plague! I've been off work ill all week so wasn't really looking forward to this anyway. You play down a couple of steps in another seating area with just about enough room, not a problem. When we got there some sort of all day 50th party was going on so everyone was trolleyed already. This didn't bode well. First couple of sets our singer (pretty girly) attracted the attention of a couple of tossers and she told them in no uncertain terms to **** off! Third set and as we kick into Brown Sugar which the guitard sings two of these cavemen see this as an oppotunity to invade the space left by the singer, jump down the steps into our playing area and start staggering around the gear, keys player jumps out and bundles them away, one of them takes exception to this and starts rounding on him. His mates drag him away. Carry on playing and few seconds later he's back chucking a pint over the keys top keyboard and the front of my bass and shirt! He retreats quickly, we switch off and give up. Seconds later he's back, trying to apologise, when I point out the value of what he's chucked beer on and we're not interested in his apologies and tell him tell **** off he then threatens to "see me outside" Nice piece of work. It just seems to be kicking off in different parts of the pub so we run the gear out in tandem watching each others backs, the asshole seems to be in another carpark nearby as we can still hear him kicking off, at someone else thankfully! We're all packed up saying our goodbyes when suddenly a lad who has been stood near us gets bundled over and gets a bad kick to the head! He's out cold with claret everywhere, whoever did has done a runner and it's an ambulance job! Never have I been so pleased to be away from a gig in my life. So why do we bother? Thousands of pounds worth of keyboard that could be buggered, the most expensive bass I've ever bought with beer chucked all over it! Our pay............60 quid a head! Weekend warriors they call us, well you need to be bloody Mad Max to survive out there sometimes!
You poor sod. Well done for getting out alive! What a nightmare gig. I hate playing in little town locals where there seems to be an undercurrent of trouble. Still, its character building they say
 6. 2 great gigs this weekend from a couple of perspectives. First, a bass player i admire a lot saw us on friday night and (i think he is a really genuine guy) complemented my tone and feel. It meant a lot and we talked for ages. Tonights gig we played a tune which we thought could of gone either way and it went down a storm. Happy days.
 7. Bilbo - thats great! Enjoyed it very much.

 12.
I then got out the Aebersold
Good thing i know what you mean as to others that may sound slightly ...suspicious. Great thread. Keep it up and a great reminder of how relative stuff is.

Good work on the Susan Tedeschi track by the way, I picked up a live Trucks Tedeschi Band gig on CD recently which I really like.
Thanks - never heard of her till last night! I'll be listening to a lot more thats for sure.
Keep going theres a few nuggets on there
 19. Heres another one that i did. I went a bit mental - didn't think about it at all. Couple of bloopers but quite pleased with the result. Played on my Precision Bitsa. It's only about a minute so give it a listen. http://soundcloud.co...-susan-tedeschi
 20.
go to any pizza/kebab shop in the teesside area and ask for a parmo and thats what you get! instant heart attack!
It looks disgusting. Bet it tastes lovely.
 21. ooh heres another one (from last night). Get sent a track to learn from a YouTube link in an email. Get to rehearsal and 1-2-3-4 first chord sounds awful. "What chord are you playing?" i ask. "Cm7" says guitartist. "Thats strange as the track you sent me was in Bm." i say. "Yeah but it sounds better in Cm" OK not a big deal - i know how to transpose. Thing is it would be good to communicate this to the other guys in the band?
 22. IME the perps are normally serial offenders. Anyone can have a week or so when things go a bit crazy but i am talking about guys who are regular wingers.
 23.
Yeah. Does the person who didn't learn the tunes have children? Or a job that necessitates working lots of overtime? Or a sick relative? Or a sleep disorder? Or any number of other possible factors? Sometimes when someone says they didn't have time to do something they actually didn't... don't assume they're just being lazy unless you have good reason to.
Sure there are times when its just not possible. But there is an implication from those that don't learn the tune that their time is more precious than those that have learnt a song. Like all walks of life there are those that will make the effort and those that won't. Personally, i like to be prepared. Some guys like to wing it. Those that wing it are always going to be more of a liability than those that put the work in.
 24.

That really is butt ugly
