1. Seeing as there is a metal thing going on here let me introduce my bling bass. Its another P Bass - this one is a bitsa. When i got the body i wanted to remove the pickguard but my bandmates are having none of it. They love it - its a bit bling for me.
2. "Been a bit too busy to work on these tunes" - which i got from both chordsters (guitar and keys) last night. 1-2-3-4 the whole thing sounded a mess. 3 new songs were meant to be learnt - only one will be giggable
3. Question: is the point also to stick to chord tones from the chord that is currently being played on the backing track OR are you saying use any chord tone as long as it is from a chord in the sequence?
4.
Yep and recently with stuff I've written. I was comparing what I was playing to what I tabbed and it was different... Oh well
LOL
5. Great work. Bass sounds great. Just the right amount of edge.
6. Thank you Scott. This is exactly the stuff i am looking for and your lessons are really my style.
7.
Thanks - that's sorted that out, then.
I know where you are coming from but i can remember being in really busy pubs/clubs and it being really difficult to get in tune with someone who you suspect wasn't in tune in the first place. Did a recording session recently with a string section and blimey - it took ages to get a take when they were all in tune. Vibe aside they certainly save time.
8. No - being in tune is cool
9. That i enjoyed a lot. Thanks.
10.
Who's Josh Stone?
There you go. I meant Joss Stone. They're both rubbish.
11. I tried to like it. The band is great - nice fat bass sound. Her singing ruins it for me.
12. Heres a great Josh Stone track.
13. Good idea. I am gonna trawl through when the kids are in bed Heres my account. I just put random home recordings on there. http://soundcloud.com/bottome
14. Never too many Fenders. Like posters above i think of them as Jazzes and Precisions in lots of different varieties. Experimented with Precision Lytes and Jazz 24's but end up going back to the "original" models and pimp them up a bit.
15.
I also love how you can make just as much impact to the music by NOT playing as you can by playing, as the feeling of space that the bass leaves (or takes up!) is MASSIVE. Plus, you can make a huge difference to the music by playing so very little. That can be a bit hard to take when you start, but once you learn to enjoy it.... woah. The POWER of the bass!
amen to that
16. What i love is when the guitar and drums are playing and it sounds ok but a bit empty. Keys maybe coming and going as is sax and other stuff. Still sounds a bit hollow. But only when the bass has come in does the song sound whole, complete and start to groove.
17. Great idea. I am on it.
18. Legend. Thanks again.
19. Found myself a teacher and it is great. Good way to supplement the stuff i am picking up from books. I found it very hard to get a decent proper bass teacher locally (within 30 miles).
20.
They are indeed still available (B5 is looking after them for me)
Hmm - me want me want me want. How would we do the deal?
21. Got a lot of love for Bb at the moment. Liking it a lot on first fret of A string. Was doing a track the other day live and it was very punchy.
22.
At the age of 57, playing in a band whose ages range from 30 to 62, I actually feel younger on stage, and that cant be a bad thing? We have a great time nearly every gig, get loads of free food and drink, paid well and meet lots of really nice people. If I didnt play, I would have half as many friends, be boring as hell and possibly even fatter than I am now. Surely I have "made it"?
Nice. Yes mate, in my world you are a success.
23.
I turned 27 in July, and find myself wondering when will be time to pack in the whole originals band route. I've got a baby on the way, and two step-kids already, and my other half is definitely losing patience with the time and money it takes to sustain the band. Started trying to put my new band together almost a year ago, and after countless false starts and line up changes, I'm still two band members short of where I need to be. The frustrating thing is that I'm reaching a point musically where after years of learning and trying different things, I feel like I know what I want to do, and I'm finally really confident in the music I'm writing, and in taking the reins with the band - I'm just not in the position I used to be to throw myself into it in the same way. How do you reconcile it?
Just keep going. I meet people and they say "wow - you are still gigging"! Why is this a surprise for an athletic and young looking 45 year old (tongue in cheek). I don't get why or how some people could do a few gigs and then hang their guitars up and retire. Really helps to have an understanding partner though.
24.
"Yesterday" http://www.youtube.c...u/0/siEQVkg293c
At work and i'll play it later. Just to say that i found a teacher locally! Sooo excited and hes also a bloody nice chap. Loves the same music as me and totally understood where i am and where i want to go. Happy days.
