Volume and how much you have to "work" to be heared definitely affects cramps etc - I normally play 3 hour sets; fast rock and roll so normally pretty punishing really & I find stretching forearm muscles between songs and varying finger positions, alternating between slapping and plucking etc helps me through - that and just not trying to hard on some songs - at the end of three hours tho it can be tough on the last few songs....

I've got an EA i800 amp (can't remember how much it was £300 ish I think secondhand) and a barefaced super twelve £600 but I could have easily got a cheaper cab there was an eden 2x12 at te time for £200 - and that gives me 800 watts rms - have a look out for a peavey firebass amp 700W as well - I sold my last one for a hundred quid!!! excellent amp

I can get my DB in my 1972 1303s Beetle, back seat folded down neck out the window..... It goes in my wife's CRV a LOT easier!

Hi All, I'm throwing the towel in on the 1950's Rock and Roll band that I play Double Bass in at the end of February because (sounds like a politician ) I want to spend more time with my kids this year - camping and generally showing then a great time rather than gigging every fortnight last year. Haven't heard back from them yet but I assume they'll be looking for a replacement - they're great bunch of blokes, really good laugh and all a great standard - the band's busy, the guitarist gets loads of gigs. - [url="http://www.therazorsband.com"]http://www.therazorsband.com[/url] They'll prefer a double bass player or at least someone who'll be willing to learn but will put up with a bass guitarist at a pinch maybe. They're based around Guildford Surrey and we play all over the South East from the South Coast to Reading and up to about Harrow way - Gigs range in size from about 20-30 people to a few hundred - Weddings, Clubs, Few Corporate Dos and the Harley Owners Club annual bash - money ranges from about £20-30 per gig upwards (quite a bit more upwards for weddings etc) anyway drop me a line if you're interested and I'll put you in touch - it would be great to get them someone to take over thanks Bob

I have to say my Lakland Duck Dunn Special Edition (they only made 30 before they released the CAR signature series) is superb - 1957 copy with gold pickguard and P bass neck - sounds superb, feels brilliant

yep thomann are ok but a better idea is to get a second hand boosey and hawkes - they're normally 6-800 quid and are superb

yep - loads on here - loads on you tube as well - I went from EB to EUB then DB and the worse bit is teh scales and the pain in your forearms but it doesn't take long - If I were you (unless you really want to use adn EUB all the time) I'd just go straight to double bass - I find them far easier to play with body position etc - and the sound is superb. truss rod what's them then?? I've never seen one on a DB!

tweaking your bridge might do the trick but it sounds like your neck has settled backwards slightly because of the lower tension

I went through the whole thing earlier in the year and finally settled on an old blonde from the '60s ( sounds liek Britt Ekland) just because the build quality is miles better. Bilbo has a Gedo and he's very happy with it last I heard; the Thomann blondes look ok as well and again have a good rep. Primavera I'm not convinced about - you get what you pay for; the basses and violins I've seen of theirs are definitely built to a very tight budget (violins especially are useless) You can get an Englehardt in blonde from Rockability (have a search on the thread I did a while back, the link's on there) - if I remember right they're about £1400. It annoyed the hell out of me that if I was in the states I could have got a nice Kay or something like it but over here there's nought! Upton bass will do a great blonde and will ship as well if you want something more expensive A final optioin I looked at which I might still go for at some point if I want amore lairy bass is to get one refinished - Spectrum Guitar Finishes quoted me £500 to strip and refinish a double bass including transport - and that was for a deep metal flake black with pinstripes - I'm sure a strip and clear varnich would be cheaper. Anyway, thought I'd add my "I've got the Tshirt on this" bit

yes dolly board is a good idea - otherwise you need to drill holes through into your cab and bolt it securely from the inside - screws have a habit of being ripped out and making a hideous mess on the cabs I've used them on!

Fralin's are the best I've found for my P basses - superb clarity and tone - love em

I'm using an iAmp 800 and a barefaced super twelve these days for my DB and Bass Guitar through a platinum pro and (bloody) loud volumes - no problems at all - Alex uses the same eminence drivers in all his 12" Barefaced cabs so I don't think you'll have a problem.

Go for Warmoth in the states and just get it all imported - they're excellent. Make sure it's exactly what you want though as secondhand values of custom builds are shocking

It all depends on how loud you need to be really; piezos - like underwoods and bassmaxes ar good, nice sound etc and you can use whatever strings you like. Without a phase reverse pre amp (like the plat pro) you won't be able to play over a drummer without feeding back or at least not our one!! Even with the plat pro in phase reverse I found it very difficult to get a solid tone and volume without being on the brink of feedback and distortion. Magnetic pickups need steel strings so limit your string choice however I can go as loud as I like now (currently use a schaller - have a seymour duncan around somewhere as well) - I run this thru the plat pro for shaping and it sounds great - really full smooth sound. No finger board slaps etc - but you can always blend in a piezo if you need that. So Plat Pro is a must - pickups depend on how loud you need to be & what strings you want to use really....

I put a 1970's Fuzz Box in my Aria LEB Bass in 1986 or so - replaced the pots with presets that I could adjust with a little screw driver and just diverted the output signal through it with a switch - so either clean or fuzzed - PP3 battery fitted in the existing cavity (just!!) No pictures I'm afraid but if anyone's got a mid 80's Aria LEB Classic with a picture of Asterix an Obelix painted on it you have the beast - and I want it back!!
