1. +1 "Yes i'm in the Alps, but it's not much cop - I'd rather be at work" would be an appropriate response Tried the Moses Graphite this weekend - Holy Cow! really loud; definitey no preamp needed (although I'll probably use it for tone anyway) Tone's good - about he same as a KA - maybe a bit thicker; having no visible poles is great though as the string doesn't bounce and click when you slap - not a bad option anyways....
2. nope no label on mine although there's various scraps of paper, dust and general muck floating about inside - Paul any other definitive marks on your Framus at all?
3. Have a look at the Ibanez Promethian (think that's how it's spelt!) 1x12 combo but you an remove the head and use it with your big rig
4. It's not me on their demo songs btw - They've an EB player that does most of the gigs (great chap) I just turn up for the expensive gigs where they need a DB - and supply my glamour and obvious good looks to their photos of course
5. I've lent my camera at the mo but here's a shot from the fifties band's site ( I hate those shoes!) http://www.aband.biz/gallery1.htm It's a bit distant but when I get my camera back after the holidays I'll take some better ones
6. Oh... am I really going to have to put this on eBay I hate eBay.....
7. I was wondering whether we'd discovered another Framus..... the deep gloss finish on back sides and neck is bothering me as the framus' I've seen are more satin finish - although saying that they were made over 35 years so maybe they changed them It's the right shape for a ply rhythm model - http://www.framus-vintage.de/modules/model...=4668&cl=EN The tuners and spike are right but again probably fairly common across lots of makers...
8. new bridge is about £200 for a decent one - fitting and set up would be about 100-150 on top so probably not worth it unless you can get cheaper parts on ebay and do it yourself.... It looks fairly decent really....couple of questions: is it ply? or hybrid? can you take a closer picture of the stripe around the side of the body is it inlaid or drawn on? and you take a picture of the tuners and the spike? Is the finger board rosewood - looks painted? Mr King might know where I'm going with this Difficult to tell but you never know
9. Psycho loud! Love it! at last an adjective for my playing style
10. If you see what I mean There is a trade off between volume and clarity but with high level versions of each it becomes borderline
11. Mag pickups work on string sound alone; which is obviously still affected by the acoustic properties of your bass so to my ears my DB with a mag pickup still sounds like a DB not an EB - because they work soley on the strings they're only affceted by feedback if the strings are made to vibrate- they are not affected by the bass body vibrating.. Piezo pickups work on pressure on the internal crystal to work and so pick up essentially the flex caused by the sound in the bridge or between the bridge and sound board - because they have this "relationship" with the soundboard/bridge they create a closer sound to the unamplified sound of the bass. However as they have this close relationship they are more susceptible to feedback as external sounds (like your amp) can make the soundboard shake as well as the strings.... So up to whatever you prefer really - a decent mag will give great results just as a decent piezo will....

13. Yep - you could test it with that - or actually just see if a fridge magnet will stick to your strings - you only need to check if they're steel or not Agree with the no preamp needed (unless you want to) for mag pickups btw. There's a nice brand new schaller on the market place for sale that would fit the bill perfectly
14. yes you need metal core strings for mag pickups to work - you can always check your db strings out with one of your electric bass pickups if you don't know if they'll work -
15. sounds like the metal spring clips in the socket to me....easy fix really
16. Yep K&K are good - but bear in mind that if you're doing rock and roll and your band plays anything like mine you'll need serious volume. With a piezo set up it means feedback - check your pre-amp has at least got a phase switch and don't expect LOUD volumes without a mag pickup
17. yes indeed - one of these http://www.thomann.de/gb/schaller_kontrabasspickup.htm I would take a photo of the real thing but as it's new and in it's unopened box....
18. Farting and swearing are the two main things that make the gig enjoyable if you ask me I find that the click is so loud anyway that it gets picked up by the vocal mics let alone a dedicated one - in anything but large venues people hear it unamplified anyway
19. have a look at the playing your db loud thread for ideas - I'd go for a cheaper mag pickup and run the slaps through a mic - the slaps are very loud and easily picked up - cheap option anyway ...
20. Now I'm impressed; typing a post while skiing - now that's multitasking!!!
21. yes good point! Actually while I think of it another really good item for reducing feedback that I keep forgetting to post up here is a decent thick rubber bung/foot for your spike- the difference it makes can be remarkable
22. Yes Kent Armstrong pickups are still available: Aaron Armstrong (kent's son) makes them to order for £90 a go - best to send him a template of your string spacing and fingerboard for a perfect fit. Aaron can be contacted at - [email protected] Armstrong pickups Unit 31 Old surrenden manor Bethersden Kent TN26 3DL Tel: 01233 822120 He's an Incredibly helpful chap - highly recommended
23. Turn down!! Pah! I pour cold custard down the wellingtons of feedback - I can run my Kent Armstrong right in front of my Barefaced Super Twelve with an Ashdown ABM running full tilt and have no problem at all - loud enough to run without a PA if needed in a decent sized hall and shake the plaster from the ceiling. I hate not feeling my trousers flap so it's either Mag pickups or an exclusive diet of beans for me......I really couldn't get anywhere near with any of the piezos I tried and the fishman plat pro (I couldn't get any volume at all without the phase switch and barely audible above the drummer with it) These look good as well btw - out fo stock at the mo but they're getting some more made - http://soundcomposites.com/basspickups
