1. I was looking at the one the other day - looks a nice one; hybrid version so more posh than mine!
2. Nice one Clarky! well done mate! I have the same problem with the dressing room at our regular Burlesque club gig - half a dozen girls in corsets - it's awful! As for feedback - I've tried everything piezo wise, muting the strings, phase shifting, praying and swearing - unfortunately you have to use a mag pickup in small/medium halls at big volume - the schaller is loud but sounds rubbish and rattles - Kent Armstrong is pretty good; I've just got a Moses Graphite to try which will be interesting and have my eye on their new one....you can borrow one and try if you like if we can find a gap where gigs don't clash Anyroad up well done mate!
3. Hi Clarky, any trouble getting it give me a shout as I'm only in epsom so can drop one off or we can meet up somewhere - it'd be a choice of mag pickups tho - I'll PM you my mobile number in case you need it Bob
4. Yes I don't mind doing a beginners 101 - i'll give it a go anyway..
5. So... I bought my double bass about a year ago now and the old chap I got it from said he bought it in the early sixties, couldn't remember the make but seemed to think it was German. It's a ply bass and about a year before he sold it he had it stripped so it's now blonde; It's plywood with a rosewood board and end piece - I've looked high and low trying to figure out it's make - finally went to Healey Violins last weekend and had the bridge sorted and adjustable wheels added and he gave me the final clue I needed - It's a Framus....one of these - http://www.framus-vintage.de/modules/model...=4668&cl=EN Anyway, it's not a Kay I know and it's still plywood I know (although Malcolm Healey said it sounded great which was nice as well) but actually I'm pretty pleased for my £800 outlay
6. Yep - little shop on the right as you headed out of town towards Dorking - funny chap used to run it.....closed down a while ago...
7. Proud member of the Fakers club here - been where you are now many times - keep at it and you'll reach the heady heights of the Blaggers club that I'm now also a member of (main difference is that blaggers keep a straight face while they play rubbish ) There's no secret - there's only practice
8. yes - drives my wife up the wall
9. No idea where you are but just got mine back from a set up at Healey Violins in sutton surrey - Malcolm has some fantastic basses in stock in the £1700-£4000 range - new and old
10. top chap! Bought an aguilar pre amp from him - great to deal with, even makes his own curry
11. When I got my db I wondered why I bothered with an eub to be honest - unless you specifically want one due to space etc just get a db
12. The eubs will always sound like eubs - upright eb unless you spend a fair bit of money on them or get an expensive one to start with. If you want something that sounds like a db - get a db - or hire one - most schools have a hire scheme, mine was ten pounds a month when I started Hope that helps
13. Chainsaw & cellotape - what's the worst that could happen.... oh right yeah fair point...
14. what a truly beautiful instrument - I'd love to swap but given the abuse I give "baby" yours would be matchwood after a couple of shows. Fantastic though, I love it....
15. Thinking about it mine came from thomann - although it looked identical - can't remember how much mine was but it was no where near four hundred quid - and it had a proper set up done on it as well - there's always secondhand staggs coming up for sale ( or wavs or sometimes bassixs) I'd get one of them
16. that's interesting - mine had a proper heel; maybe they've changed it..... The other thing to bear in mind is secondhand availability and resale value - the Stagg is a widely available secondhand and if you go that way you'lll almost certainly get whtat you paid for it if you sell it....
17. nor me! I just keep astraight face and play the same mistake in the same place next I get to that bit in the song again I'd bung mine up but they're all either private parties or dinner and dances - hard core rock star me
18. I had the g4m one it was surprisingly good - preamp was a bit naff but was all very useable - I sold it to one of Danny thompson's mates so it can't have been all bad - not a patch on my db of course and the original strings are crap ! More of a db neck than the stag's i've played Hope that helps
19. it's great - really solid as well & looks almost invisible. I've had a word with Aaron Armtrong as well and I'm going to get one tailor made for my bass with a built in 18v pre-amp and 3 band Eq - how cool is that! Thanks for your help with it all last week mate - really appreciated
20. Hi All, so my new unused schaller is in the for sale section as I'm a Kent Armstrong chappy these days but I'm just about to throw the old one away unless anyone wants it? Comes complete with horrible loose connection farty noise as standard but maybe someone can either fix it or have some use for it for spares or something? Let me know and i'll put it in t'post for you thanks Bob
21. Excellent advice as usual - brilliant! the Ampeg looks great but the Ibanez looks exactly what I need! I'll be placing my order tomorrow! thanks again chaps! Bob
22. Hi All, well after the fun and games of last week I bought this in case I couldn't get my Kent Armstrong working (which I did) so I don't need it anymore - cost me £109 + next day delivery. £85 posted or make me an offer? all completely brand new and unopened.... thanks Bob
23. Ok ... so... I've sold my iAMP - great amp, sounded too clean and I couldn't get my small brain around the EQ section. I need a small (ish) combo - 150W - wedge shape would be good for one of the gigs I do as there's no room for a stack. and I need an amp to power my barefaced super twelve - Mark Bass or Terror bass perhaps? Both need to be good for my double bass and my EB as well. My budget is about £650 all in could probabaly add some more I suppose. So I've been looking at the Laney RB6 wedge thingy - that looks ok ish; or maybe a TE BLX 150? Or there's a great looking Eden on here - dual channel as well (v handy!) although it weighs the same as a small planet and if I got that I may as well get rid of my super twelve. There's also a 500W TE 1215 on ebay as well that looks good.... What would be perfect would be a markbass combo and then use my super twelve as an entension cab - except mark bass can't handle a 4 ohm cab only 8 ohm.... At the minute I'm swaying towards the Terror Bass and cheap Laney combo Anyway after that long ramble what do you all think? (apart from "what the hell is he gibbering on about!")
24. Me too - dual channel - one for the db, one for the eb.... footswitch to swap over.....lot of weight tho...hmmmmmm
25. did you get my PM mate? There's an ampeg space that's empty on top of my cab - it needs filling!
