1. I have stood behind, and next to many a hapless twonk who can say nothing more than "how you all doing?" or "is everybody having a good time?" when the inevitable gap betwixt songs appears. it is not good. In my old acoustic duo, me and the other bloke were for some reason able to go off on fairly entertaining tangents between songs, and were generally well received and chuckled at (or maybe with) If you can't banter, then don't stop between songs, as it looks bloody awful seeing a bunch of awkward-looking muppets waiting for someone to count them in.
2.
Any love for Fender flats..?
Yes, I have them on all my basses. 50-100, bloody lovely they are.
3. Oh this is good news, and not just for being rudely woken up in the middle of the afternoon when dozing in front of the Telly.
4. With all due respect, this is utter bullshit. Of the highest order. Probably written by some twat in a terrible pub covers band who has a horrible shiny 7-string Ibanez guitar, can't play lead solos for toffee and has a gut like Jabbas. Or not. He should say, "If you are not a dull shoe-gazey indie muppet, you should't be in a band" or "Don't form a band".
5. This old thing made of many bits, hated by everyone who isn't me. I've found i don't ever use the bridge pickup now, so am thinking of swapping in a Wizard trad P-pickup I've got lying about, and then it really will be perfect (And not ugly, before you say it)
6. Ah, I like the Wax Room (and have just worked out which Paul you are, and how come you had already heard of my Promethean clone amp when we had that conversation a couple of years ago, clever....)
7.
I'm extremely fond of Dave Vader's band Carnivala. Also loving the Jetsonics video posted above!
Just seen this post, thanks Paul. I see you are also in Devon, i assume I must know you in real life then, and you have probably seen us live. particularly since I don't post here much anymore, and am rubbish at pimping the band. Would love to remember all the stuff I've heard from on here that I liked, but can't remember who's it was, or the names of the bands. Oh, I liked Hair of the Dog a lot, is Discreet still in them?
8.
With my double bass stage right (audience left) so I'm looking into the band rather than the wings. It's not only about the drummer, there are others in the band.
This, though I keep being shuffled over to the left by engineers who have the bass DI over that side, and can't be arsed to move it. Which leaves me looking at walls a lot of the time, or ripping out my neck muscles trying to look over my shoulder at the rest of the band. Also, the violin player keeps whacking the trumpet player in the ear with his bow. Though this is irrelevant, this is another reason why we swapped him to left and me to right.
9. I got a saffire, and a firewire card for my old studio PC, as it is too old to take even USB 2.0 sadly, so the scarlett was never going to work. The saffire is great, the PC is definitely on its way out this year though. Still trying to figure out a way of running Reaper in Ubuntu so I can abandon windoze forever.
10. Shame.... (I don't need a Thunderbird either, and have taken my sensible hat off)
11. I have no dosh, but I do have a 1976 Moog Rogue Synth in pretty decent condition I am thinking of moving on.
12.
My current bike is worth about 3 times what my car is worth.
Mine too, and it only cost me £50....
13. Gibson SG Special 60s Tribute, or a Gretsch Bobtail, actually both... Yes I know they're guitars.
14. Your Mileage May Vary as in, you may think differently about this thing than I do, and have different results if you use it.
15.
A Jamerson Sig, for example, would just be a 62 reissue.
Covered in crap, with rusty old strings and action at least 3 foot off the board. preferably having been left out in the rain a few times as well.
16. 4 is the right number. 2 fretted, 2 fretless, so when one falls apart unexpectedly, you have a spare to take to the gig. Coincidentally, I have exactly this situation. Oh and an EUB, no spare for that though. And don't ask me about the guitars, my argument falls down a biot there, I have lots. I can justify them, but I don't think it's my strongest argument.
17. very worth a little modding. My Sunn P-Bass is still my number one go to bass. Probably just cos I've had it so long, but they are very playable with a little fettling.
18. Just to help a bit, these are good These are not so good These are firewood. Hope this helps.
19. If it's got a proper strat shaped headstock, and fmic printed on it somewhere it is usually pretty good, 80s, licensed by fender. My P-bass one is made of leftover proper fender bits, which weren't quite up to snuff (wood is hideous under the finish, and the micro tilt button on the neck is stuck in all to sh*te). If it's a 90s one with the funny shape headstock, it is sadly firewood. Korean rather than Indian, and usually horrid.
20. I have accidentally got serious GAS for a Vintage Mick Abrahams Signature model SG. But I hate signature models, and relic finishes. I shall have to strip it, take off the signature bit and be happy with a P-90 SG
21. looks just like mine Jono. Though mine had the guts rewired to sort the drive channel, and some other stuff. Great amps.
22.
I have recently moved house and, in the process, have had to move my studio into the garden. It is a work inprogress but here is the building it is being housed in.
Nice looking Shed Rob, mine leaked like a sieve, and is being abandoned, I advise you to go nuts with all the waterproofing you can. Recent weather events should show up any leaky spots pretty quickly.
23. Doesn't take long to knock the edges off a new guitar. Play it. Having said that, the necks on the roadworn jobs are immediately playable and nice. maybe keep doing that.
24.
I realise now that it was all a cunning plan.
Nope, I forgot to keep one. I kept the Sunn Mustang P-bass, and an oakland Stratocaster copy, that would leave even Jon scratching his head. I like them though.
