1.
He says there's no more major acts anymore but he's forgetting Foo Fighters, who are a major stadium band now as are the Chilli's . There's plenty other rock acts that have not had enough time to become legendary. I always liked Kiss and Gene, but he's becoming a bit of a knob with these outbursts and statements!
I'm mostly with you on this, but it's worth remembering that both of those bands have been going for more than 20 years now, it's like defending the 90s with Black Sabbath and Deep Purple (both of whom did do albums in the 90s, and no, none of them were good).
 2. Kate Bush fans are not like normal people. They would, by and large not want her to do a big greatest hits show. They want weird, and overtly theatrical productions of stuff that was not on the last stage show. Looks like they got it, Looking forward very much to the DVD.
 3. Last Saturday afternoon, Beautiful Days Festival out near Exeter. My bridge leaped out of my EUB and across the stage near the end of a song. managed to wrestle it back in, retune, and jump straight back in at nearly the right place in the next tune. I did not get anyway near enough credit for such a clean bit of on stage maintenance. The sound guys were massively helpful in holding the thing up while I kicked the bridge back into position though, huge thanks to both of them.
 4. get a guitarron, they are big and loud and low, and very very cool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitarr%C3%B3n_mexicano
 5. All good thanks, but it's a massive 19mm scaffold pole rather than a dainty cello style pin. i think the foot will cure it, or i may just carry on destroying stages, it is more rock and roll.
 6.
One end of the HB EUB end pin has the rubber 'walking stick' end, the other should have a white nylon spike which I thought would work well on a wooden floor, as in not marking it. After chasing the bloody thing round Tavistock Wharfs stage for half an hour I decided it didn't work well. From the audience point of view I must have looked pretty lively though .
I know that stage. I shall not try that end then. Thanks. I think the squash ball might not be man enough to take the weight, but nice idea.
 7. Have ordered new walking stick tip from ebay, for princely sum of 1.50, looks like it is metal reinforced at the bottom already. Are squash balls hollow? (also spotted a rubbery triangle pointy bit on the other end of my spike, I suspect modifications by previous owner, probably just need to turn the bloody thing round....)
 8. She's usually asleep these days, probably won't notice...
 9. I got laughed at by the drummer, who's kit, sans carpeting, still did less damage to the stage than my bass. i get overly spirited and move from one bit of the stage to the other, so I'd have to kick the bit of plywood ahead of me Douglas, but nice idea. Walking stick end rubber may be thicker, if not, my dog has abandoned a large rubber ball in garden, I may drill it and see what happens... Thanks all.
 10. Hello all, my EUB, a big black harley benton beastie, which I've had for less than two years, is about to need it's third rubber foot thingy on the end of the "spike". The one it came with (second hand) perished pretty quickly, and the metal tubing came through and started chewing up stage floors. So I nabbed the foot from an old mic stand, which looked about the same, and used that instead. This one has gone right through as well now, I only noticed on saturday while playing an outdoor stage (wooden, painted black) and saw I was chewing through the paint to leave little circles all over the place. Any recommendations from anyone as to a decent thing to jam on the end and stop me destroying the floors?
 11.
Elephant in the room ▶ Atomic Rooster- A Spoonful of Bromide Helps The Pulse Rate Go Down [1972] - YouTube
Well now, posting a band with no bass player on a bass forum, that's not going to calm anyone down is it?
 12.
Exactly. It's not difficult to do.
It's much harder than I thought it would be I've done a few now, and still need to buy at least 2 of any decal I intend to apply. Especially if I'm burying them in lacqeur.
 13. I once tripped one of these with just an acoustic guitar and my voice. No PA. I am still undeservedly proud of that.
 14.
Personally I think talking between songs should be kept to a minimum unless the person doing it is both supremely entertaining and eloquent. Most musicians aren't.
Mostly this is true, but in the world of folk music, there is inevitably a story to the song, and given that most of the lyrics will be hey nonny nonny, way fock a roldediddle, it means the floaty middle aged lady singing has to tell you the story before they start singing, otherwise you will have lost the plot somewhere in the 15th verse.
What annoyed me when I was in a covers band: The guitarist quietly (but audibly) reminding himself of the first couple of chords of the following song, thus letting the audience know what was coming next and removing any advantage of surprise and lessening the impact! That's unprofessional, imho.
This does very much suck, i have experienced it myself before (and possibly been guilty of it in my youth, although i think I used to whang through the chords to songs I wanted the band to do, and see if the crowd looked excited at the prospect. Just to goad the bastards.)
 15.
Wow, you managed to resist the lure of consumer capitalism! Well done! I was using a DAW by then.
I was skint, I got the Atari in the mid 90s for bugger all, as everyone was going for DAWs by then.
 16.
Used one of these for sampling and sequencing of early EDM along with an Akai S950. How modern and hi-tech we thought we were! Ha, ha, ha!
I ran one of those in my studio right up until 2002, when I thought a proper computer might make more sense than an ST plugged into a 4 track.
 17.
I'm sure there must be at least one track that counts as this on a Tunng album...
Probably, i wanted to call it folkstep as a joke, but then it turned out Skol had got there before me, and it had stopped being a joke
 18. It is... sort of... https://soundcloud.com/plastic-squirrel/bassline
 19. I think my "drum and banjo" genre remains a joke, at least i hope so....
 20.
I was having lunch with a scouser the other day. I asked him "Do you like avocado?" He replied, "Nah, I, don't even drive."
This has not had the recognition and round of applause it deserved. Claps
 21.
You are Kevin of Deptford and I claim my five pounds.
Wrong, he is Cameron from Denrob. Though I'm not sure where Denrob is...
 22. It's even worse when some twat comes into the thread, and says "I wrote a blog post no unrelated to this topic a while ago" and then links to it.... http://davedoesntwriteanythingever.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/opinions-are-like-arseholes.html /coat
 23. I do be a guitar player. I don't do it as often as I used to, but here's me and my trusty 3-in-1 strat doing some widdly noises, 4 years ago.
 24.
I do quite a lot of dep work and most of it is 'repeat business' from the same bands or 'word of mouth' recommendations from people I've worked with before, so I must be regarded as being able to do a half reasonable job. Deps are there purely to fill a temporary gap in the same way that I may need a plumber for the duration of a piece of work, no more and no less. Replacing the band member permanently is a topic that has never arisen, although it will at some point I'm sure. I dep purely for the money and, as nice as the rest of the people in the band may be, I've got to be brutally honest and say that there's every probability that I'd not want to play with them on a permanent basis.
Yep, this goes for me too I do now want a Shiny Silver Star Deputy badge though....
 25. I met Marvin in Torrington once, if you've ever been there you'll agree that I have won the thread.
