1.
Hope the Sunn Mustang gets a mention.
It was very nearly the cover
 2. Thanks for all the support chaps - really does mean a great deal. *teary-happy-faced-smiley*
 3.
Is this original writing, or just "an interpretation"?
Everything is just an interpretation these days Jack - there's nothing new under the sun and all that At least it's not a tribute....
 4. I love you all- really - thanks. There was an early draft with a chapter involving a bass forum that might seem eerily familiar, but it got cut to a paragraph, and is only a glancing mention now. I did nick some horror stories off here and some other forums though - if you recognise yours give me a shout and I'll give you the credit.
 5. Took me a while, but I finally published my book today, it's about being in a pub covers band and is quite funny. Apologies if I'm breaking any forum rules by posting this, but I thought you guys might be interested. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Weekend-Rockstars-Dave-Holwill-ebook/dp/B01JWTBJ2W Sorry for spammy self-promotion.... as you were. While I'm here editing links, here's my second novel, The Craft Room - more sorry for spam. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Craft-Room-Dave-Holwill-ebook/dp/B074XFDJR2
 6.
I know when I'm beaten Dave...
I never do, have I won?
 7.
Good man, toneknob. Satellite Precision copy here. Must be worth all of £50. Mine's bigger/more expensive that yours, eh?
I've a 1989 Sunn Mustang that cost me £30. Count me in for the weigh-off
 8. The one I use the most and am still unable to beat cost me £30 20 years ago, and is a Sunn Mustang from an Argos Catalogue. All I've done is swapped out the electrics for a Wizard trad and a couple of CTS pots, replaced the tuners with ones that weren't snapped off and refinished it in danish oil. So still less than a ton all told. I play more expensive ones, but I don't ever get on with them the same. I refuse to get back on the merry go round now.
 9.
There's a small music pub called The Ranelagh in Kemptown (near the pier I think) - been there a couple of times, good music & a great pint of ale if that's your thing: http://www.theranelagh.co.uk/
Looks good, saturday night is a folk-rock band though, which means while I would be foot-stomping and sh*t-kicking, the wife would have her fingers in her ears and not because she was looking for a harmony. Might give it a whirl on Sunday though. Ta.
 10. Yes lots Most memorably on an outdoor festival stage back in '99. Thai Rum and skunk while waiting to go on was not such a great idea. Howlingly funny though, and nice soft grassy landing.
 11. Right you lot, me and the Wife are off for another exciting Brighton weekend on Saturday, so if you or a band you know are playing, and good, post below where and when, and we might come and see you. Last time we were there we didn't make it away from the Fortune of War where they were playing nothing but Prince all night (we were the dancing pirates on the seafront if you were there that night) We could be your dancing Pirates if you need such a thing at your gig, What have you got?
 12.
And the guitarist, who will tell you he has learnt the song but will actually have listened to it once in his car on the way to the rehearsal. Good luck!
Hey, I live far enough away from rehearsals that I usually manage to listen to it twice on the way there
 13.
that's reaper i think... or cubase... i should be able to start work on my new space after this weekend.... fingers crossed
It is indeed Reaper, which crashed almost fatally a week before I got everything moved in, making the transition a bit sadder than it should be. Fixed now. Not posting the reverse view, it's even less tidy the other side, mostly cases and instruments without cases, and piles of stuff. Good luck with your space RockfordStone, if it's anything like as much of a pain as mine has been to sort out, I thoroughly recommend taking up knitting instead.
 14. Nearly 3 years later I've finally got it all back together, no leaks, no damp, (no windows either this time) and completely rebuilt. Now, how did that song go....
 15. They do now, it might be one of them
 16.
A lot of folks seem t have trouble 'chasing' the tuning after they're set up. I've always found the best way is to tune from the middle outwards - seems to make a huge difference to the amount of time to bring the unit up to pitch both when tuning and also after it's locked up and fine tuning it.
Why has this never occurred to me before! Seems obvious now you mention it (especially on my non-floyd Strat, set to float) thank you.
 17. Sometimes I play for free, sometimes I get paid..... hang on. I do both covers and originals, have done really great gigs with really great people and really awful gigs with really awful people in both scenes.
 18.
I'm in an 80's band and play Tiffany every gig
Do you need a guitarist/spare bassist/banjo/mandolin/nose flute/triangle/anything really player? Nobody ever lets me play Tiffany
 19.
That's great Dave. A nice little lunchtime read with a few links to stuff I have yet to "appreciate". Thanks for sharing.
Thanks HKH, you may never appreciate some of it, particularly the Tiffany, she is an acquired taste.
 20.
Ha-ha..! He had a Bon Jovi cassette..!
21.
snob noun

A person with an exaggerated respect for high social position or wealth who seeks to associate with social superiors and looks down on those regarded as socially inferior.
"her mother was a snob and wanted a lawyer as a son-in-law"

A person who believes that their tastes in a particular area are superior to those of other people
"a musical snob"
Thanks for the excuse to post this latest blog of mine which has no relevance to the discussion at all, except that it is about Musical Snobbery, http://davedoesntwriteanythingever.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/has-music-snobbery-ruined-your-life.html
 22.
Most of that drumming is basically 'Ting-Tingty-Ting', anyway. Maybe I'm wrong, though...
Some of them go tinty-ting-ting Dad, you're wrong
 23. There was a week back in 1996 that i was quite cheery, it passed though.
 24. Stopped taking myself so seriously many years ago and decided Eurovision is in fact a good deal of fun. Because it is. I watched the whole thing on iPlayer last night, as I was out on Saturday, I even avoided spoilers like those kickyball fan people do when they have to watch it later.
