  1. To modify another well known joke- How do you know if someone's a jazz fan? They'll tell you.
  2. Picked up mine just after Christmas and used it NYE (a tad ambitious for my first foray into 5 string as it turns out!) But I've been experimenting with the tip Marcus Miller gives on the Chicago Music Exchange Video where you just leave the mid frequency selector in place then just boost the mids fractionally to bring out finger style. Works a treat, it's almost like he knows what he's doing.
  3. Thank you Dave.
  4. Watched it last night. The rock tones I’ve got used to from being on here and picking up on isolated tracks. Jamerson- well, he’s the guy so have heard loads of isolated stuff. The one that got me was I Want You Back, which previously I would have held up as an example of the warmest of warm P bass sounds- by itself, hideous! Still top playing though.
  5. I did so many of those gigs, invariably to no-one, and I might have been enjoying some of Camden’s other offerings I can’t remember. However, I recall a band at the carnarvon castle circa 2003/4 doing something like that.
  6. I think I might have been on the bill with you then! Can’t be many people soundchecking with that. I won’t have slapped by the way.
  7. Anything from the comedy basslines selection- another one bites the dust ice ice baby/ under pressure billie jean that bit from the chain etc etc. What I don’t do is let them know about the really loud bits with octaver/ gain and filters on. I want those bits loud and if they know it’s coming up invariably you’ll be set to ‘barely on’ for the rest of the entire set, unless of course you have an engineer you believe is actually listening.
  8. We’re musicians, he who pays the piper calls the tune. They want a precision, they get it.
  9. Just bought an active J 5 string. Wife- I like the sound of the other one (P with flats)
  10. Exactly, sounds much natural on live clips.
  11. The singers in my band have decided because my Sire is cheap, shiny, orange and is going to get beaten it should be called Shazza.
  12. How’s about this then, Santa’s only gone and got me tickets from the Friday at the palladium. So it doesn’t matter if I get the call or not, I’ll see you there.
  13. Looks like your average run of the mill gospel chops totally capable in any situation jobbing pro. Hate him already.
  14. By the way, don’t mean to hijack your thread but it’s nice to know someone else is as excited about a V7 as I am!
  15. The preamp on my ASAT has many options but is really easy to understand, this will be a bit more grown up. I’ve been after a 5 string that wouldn’t break the bank for pit work (I can look after my instruments but others can’t) and this came up in BD’s Facebook feed last night- just knew I had to pull the trigger immediately at the price.
  16. Tim Lefebrve (sp) is leaving Susan and Derek, real shame as he sounds great in that band, but they won’t be short of fantastic replacements. Time for basschatters to dust off their audition vids maybe?
  17. Picking mine up Thursday- bargain from bass direct (burnt orange) You can explain the preamp to me later!
  18. Wow, that’s a classy board.
  19. First bass was a PJ, black, that my dad bought me. Couldn’t comment on the quality at all as I knew even less than I do now about what makes a good instrument. Sold it in the car park of the Sun Valley factory if I recall.
  20. Girls just wanna have fun
  21. Sorry, I’m not quite sure what you mean. I think Cuzzie had the extender on his but mine is unmodified. I do notice the neck lean more since I got the LB100 but I hesitate to call it dive, it’s ok with a strap in the right position. She is heavy though! And on topic, not a stingray.
  22. That's one thing to bear in mind. The MFD pickups are extremely high output and your amp will need the headroom at the input stage to take them. Unless you're more grown up than me and can manage to use the bass' volume knob and turn down a bit. Stingray's are more manageable but I'm in the inaudible G string camp, (oo-er missus) and prefer the G&L vibe overall.
  23. This photo should explain what I went for in a similar situation. The ASAT features the l-2000 electronics in a tele body style. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I love it.
  24. Apparently he owns more or less every vintage left handed guitar/ bass in the country. Wouldn’t be surprised if a precision was in the closet somewhere.
  25. Welcome to the Vulf Pack.
