    The Alembic F-1X is incredibly pure and either full range or biamped with nice crossover adjuster it sounds very sweet. Best used with an Alembic. £350 is a fair and correct price for stunning kit. New around £900 or a grand. In conjunction with superfilter SF2 even more possibilities but standalone awesome too. It does depend on what you are playing through it a bit though.

    oh yeah - it does! Mark (King gave me two sets in 1989) and I never looked back. They lack bottom end but the flexibility is unbelievable. I can't use anything else now - it just feels so heavy and inflexible. impossible to create dynamics like Mark (or Stanley) with heavy strings...

    Hi, Been playing bass 30 years... first bass a £50 Kay junior scale! & 10 watt lane amp. Things have moved on since then! 1st serious bass a Jaydee MK 1987... cherry classic. Now running 4:- Alembic series 1 small body bubinga - very rare - awesome! Alembic Stanley Clarke standard - gorgeous quilted maple - 1997 phenominal to play Fender Jazz deluxe - one the 42 Mark King series with blue SIMS Zon Sonus custom with spectacular spalted maple top - amazing bass Effects by TC Electronic - G system - stunning quality... Amps:- MK500 with Alembic super filter (SF-2) in front for phenomenal clarity! Alembic F1X tube pre through Ashdown PM1000 power - biampable with crossover (ex Adam Clayton power) into ex Adam Calyton ASS410 Ashdown ba & big ben 19" sub... wow! MArk bass F500 - wow! GK MB150E III head - great chorus! Trace AH150 - for retro memories! Ashdown Bentley bass cabs (410 & 15) & 210 bass monitor ala MK Mesa Boogie diesel road ready 15 - lush sound and good for parking amps on at home! Ashdown MINI 48 - beaut to look at - sounds great at home - can't cope with fender rumble... GK 115LB - ultra compact cab.

    Thanks for Ann & standard & series feedback. I guess I was being lazy to not search on the Alembic club! I have standard small body & series 1 small body Alembic basses already and a superfilter. Perhaps the series 2 is a step too far, though not as complex as some custom Alembic examples!! Useful and interesting to read. Thanks

    Oh, and it has a head and wood!! (ok its got a teeny amount of graphit too - but it is an awesome huggable bass - the new 'jazz' - equivalent perhaps of the new mini versus the old mini car?!

    Hi, the only bass I would swap my Zon for is a KB artist! I have the best Zon Sonus 4 I have ever seen/played (which is why I bought it - from the UK dealer - Mansons) with an exquisite spalted maple top. It is the 4 string custom with upgraded pre-amp - mid with pull on it and black hardware… mint. Zon's are the US equivalent of Status really… i.e.. graphite neck, awesome woods & build quality & with sustain to 'die for'! Awesome bass… Joe Zon is a great guy just like Rob Green!
