    I've seen a Westone on evilbay that I'm now monitoring. Do they balance well on strap and lap as the top horn looks a lot shorter that on some other basses? How's the weight too?

    Hi all. I have decided to take the plunge and go for an unlined fretless bass and so the lined fretless has to go. This is a condition imposed by she-who-must-be-obeyed and is apparently non-negotiable About the bass: It started life as a standard RBX270 fretless. I bought it on evilbay about 4 years ago to introduce myself to the concept of fretless playing. The previous owner had been using round-wounds and there were a few light marks on the surface of the fingerboard that manchesterguitartech (Steve) sorted out for me beautifully. The body is in great condition, it's a nice lightweight bass and the neck is slim and nice to play (imo obviously!). Having really got into f/l playing (without necessarily being brilliant at it) I opted to make some upgrades as follows: [b]Pickups [/b]- Now Seymour Duncan Vintage style P/Js (it was P/J before so no routing required) [b]Bridge[/b] - Wilkinson heavy duty to replace the BBOT item [b]Strings [/b]- D'Addario flatwounds (about 12 months old now) [b]Electrics[/b] - Rewired to volume/volume/tone like a Jazz bass (was volume/balance/tone); a new good quality jack socket and nice new metal knurled knobs replacing the cheapo plastic items fitted

    Thanks people. Might put my lined up F/S to see if there are any bites. I'll need to attemp to figure out a fair price first though!

    On the off chance GAS gets the better of me (like I can resist ), what unlined fretless basses should I be looking for in the £200-250 bracket. Most of what I've seen on here and evilbay is well above my potential budget.

    I've not looked at another amp since I acquired my GK MB500 around 2 years ago, and now I'm all Barefaced up I can say, hand on heart, that I've never heard myself so clearly and have had numerous comments from others. So in this crucial area GAS free Don't mention basses though

    Just out of interest are the dots on the side in the same place on a fretless or located to where the fret would be - or both if it depends on the luthier?

    I have totally got used to the light strings now and really like the tone they produce. I have recently acquired a reserve set just in case!

    Is that a P-Retro on the Fender Walbassist? How does it fit with the fretless sound? Mine is on a fretted P and I'm liking it very much. Big GAS problem now is whether I'm brave enought to go UNLINED. Still peeking out from behind the sofa on this one though.

    I really enjoyed playing mine and had it for around 5 years. Good for rockier style music I felt with nice bright round-wounds. Sort of regret selling it now. Very comfortable, well balanced although I have no experience of the Twin Humbuckers/Tone Pump version as mine had the 3-band EQ and P/J pickups. Incidentally replaced by a Warwick Corvette Std. German made bass.
