1.
I would of refused to leave and had they refused to pay completely would of then smashed the place up.
Affirmative action! PS: send in the ninjas
 2.
As soon as I have anymore news, you'll be the first to know. Nick
right
 3.
I was thinking the same. Just a list of bad venues with links to relevant threads. Keep the detail out of the blacklist thread itself.
I have already seen a site somewhere that does this. Anyone know anything about it.?
 4. So was Glen Miller's band considered 'Swing' ? (the right era, surely ?)
 5.
My SB320 is a P/J config and I tend to play over the P pup but it may be interesting to try and play in between the P and the neck, or maybe right on the end of the neck perhaps? I can give it a try...
The higher the better. When I said 'Above the neck pick up' I didn't mean on top of the pick up. I meant beyond the pickup, onto the fretboard. Give it a try I think you will be surprised how much it has an effect.
 6.

Surely Der Mussolini isn't a bass line, as such? its a pre programmed sequencer ? from: Daz the pedantic I remember dancing to this in Vogue night club* in Chester, many a time. *Great club for a time, in the early 1980s They didnt let in people improperly dressed. I remember seeing two incredulous guys in suits get turned away for being dressed wrong, as a guy in a donkey jacket dirty jeans and doc martens wandered past without a look from the bouncers. Ahh bliss and karmic re payment for all the times it was the other way round.
 7.
My first 'proper' amp in 1978 was a Yamaha YBA100 bought secondhand from SAI for £280 which was a fortune then. The power amp was in the 3 x 12" cab , top part was just a very capable graphic pre-amp with push button band pass filters. It weighed a ton and I lugged it down from my bedroom and pushed it through the streets to band practice every Saturday morning. Rated at just 100 watts it was extremly loud, and I wish I could find one today. Probably one of the coolest looking amps ever made. I progressed to an Orange Bass head and a home brew 2x12 to save my back.
You pushed this monster through the streets to practice every weekend ?! Man you deserve an award or something. that is some serious Roy Castle type dedication!!
 8. Been after a try of one of these for a while. Unfortunately, my well advertised impoverished state now precludes this. Good luck with the sale. have a free bump on me.
 9.
Okay so I lied, I've been playing it for the better part of two hours and am having a ton of trouble pulling myself away to go to bed here. Unfortunately I'm getting a half a$$ effect playing quietly through an old Peavey Guitar amp I had stuffed away. Still would rather not blow the speaker out of it though my son still may like to use it for his electric. Desperately need to go get a bass amp so I can hear what she is really capable of doing. That will be my mission this week, Get an amp and have someone set this bass up so the action isn't so high. [sup] [/sup]
Good for you.
 10. To my mind it seems to be the definition of 'swing' thats being argued over here. (Swing, to me means 1930's 40's Count Basie, Benny Goodman type stuff.) Just out of interest what type of bass does the OP play ?
 11. Yeah as Mr F says, take it apart and clean it, with methylated spirits and cotton buds for the hard to reach bits. Otherwise it will start humming in a few months, and I don't mean musically.
 12.
BTW the Are You Receiving/Nervous System/Turn to Red 10" was the first release - Psyche/Wardance was at least 6 months later.
They brought Follow the leaders out as a 10inch single in 1981, maybe he's mixing it up with that ? Oh its all coming back to my addled old brain, even as I type. Come to think of it now, it was my bass playing mate Sven, who first tipped me off to them, after the Turn to Red 10" single came out. I remember them being on The tube and pulling a blinder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcUlVEhF4C4&feature=related
 13. Using you picking hand high up on the neck sometimes (IE above the neck pickup) gives a DB like sound. or at least it does with me. But my style is probably so inconsistent this means little. Give it a go though.
 14. Sorry mate but you should have left, when you saw what they had left you to deal with on your own. IE: The 20 inch space between a wall and a tableful of arseoles. I mean you really never saw it coming ? I'm sorry but certainly not trying to come over all clairvoyant, but I knew long before I got to it that they had refused to pay you. Edit: Isn't there some sort of website where you can report venues who act badly and/or withhold payment ? So that other bands don't get caught out, and so that they are encouraged not to do it again?
 15. He hasn't been on line for 4 months so I doubt it. Good bargain though.
 16.
I really am going to have to try a Dingwall. I have small hands so I don't know if I could possibly cope with a partial 37 scale (My main bass is 32) but the tech really appeals to me.
Yeah Dingwall fanned fret basses have been on my "to try" list for ages. Well just Dingwall basses of any shape or form really. I dont think I've ever even seen a single one in a shop. Sigh!
 17. I too saw them at the Leeds Futurama. Excellent live band It was 1983 though not 86. (see pic below. 50 bands for 12 quid!) Psyche was brilliant. one of my all time fave singles. Also Nervous system. Great bass guitar! ps: Rememeber the Pleasure & the beast, set ?
 18. What!? Did the sale not include the case ?
 19.
This ability thing worries me. I can enjoy a 2 minute Lurkers thrash equally as much as a 10 minute Gentle Giant track. Both songs will be played to suit their context. Maybe the Lurkers have more 'ability' as they can get the job done quicker?
Ah The Lurkers. I remember seeing them when i was a skinny youth of 16 freshly expelled from School. In the Spring of 1979, touring their Fulham Fallout LP, on a very small nightclub stage in Chester. Fantastic live band. The drummer Esso also wrote quite an interesting book about it all. IMHO anyone who states that there were no really good punk bands, simply doesn't know enough about it.
 20. Ahh too slow. Been meaning to try a set of Ernie Balls for yonks. But my straightened circumstances forbid it at the moment.
 21. It must be a Status strings problem, as the same thing happened to me. (with my Farida FPB 18 P bass copy) I have to say it still sounded fine though. Just wound it on about 1/3 of the circumference of the tuner peg after id tuned it .I think they were just making sure it was long enough to fit. Better too long and maybe have to cut a bit off than too short and be useless.
