1. So lets get this right. It seems to me the only people who might say bass to rhyme with pass are from Tyne-side or maybe Sheffield ? So the rest of the country pronounces it BASE ? Which is apparently how only the UK (minus a few regions) the USA and Australia pronounce it. But the rest of the world pronounce it to rhyme with pass ? (I noticed a German guy on a youtube vid pronouncing it to rhyme with pass a while back actually. Didn't realize that all of Europe did though? )
 2.
Northerners do some f***ing strange things, but I've never heard one say Base Guitar before.
I always thought i was a Northerner? Seems I was a Southerner all along ? Base ? I say PAH to base PS: Mind you there are some strange regional variations. I remember being in Sheffield at the swimming baths there, the one with the three high diving boards. I went up to the top one, and was wavering a bit at the end. One of the local lads behind me says "whats tha matter. Its only watter" (rhyming water with matter) Which i though highly amusing.
 3.
Now that is a great track
Written by Dee Dee Ramone, who couldn't play it with his own band due to the stick up his ass, red neck Republican that was Johnny Ramone. Who would not let the band play it. If I remember correctly. (it must have been a good day he let them put 53rd & 3rd on the album) Of course Dee Dee knew all about Chinese rocks and pawn shops. All the best tunes are written from true life.
 4.
Don't get psyched out by BE's bass lines. His playing style is unique and his lines sound complicated when you can’t play them but stick with it and you’ll find that his lines are all built around pretty simple ideas. That's what makes them so effective.
Indeed that's true. I simply cant do them the way he did them. I cant do hammer ons like he did, I have to go my own way. Still sounds pretty good to my ears. You can kill yourself trying to get it spot on, or you can play It as well as you can, in your own way, to your own ability, and still be satisfied and enjoy it at the same time.
 5.

And the collective noun for this lot is an 'Orgy' of Basses
 6. Read the reviews on Amazon and see if any of these come close to what you want. The Fender bass an Illustrated history 128 pages How the Fender bass changed the world 208 pages The Fender bass 43 pages None of these are really what you want I don't think. The bass is a niche market unlike those six string things! There are bloody hundreds of books like you want for them. PS: If you are going to buy one, then take a tip from an amazon regular. Don't forget to consider the second hand sales section. (click the blue ' used and new' link) Often a lot cheaper. But if you do buy a new one then use the 'FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery' option. This just means they send it second class. But it is free.
 7. Glad you have a job that you enjoy. Most people don't, so count yourself lucky on that score. Maybe you could just tell the band that you can stay with them but it will have to be on your terms, then give it a try for a while.

 11. Anything without a headstock. Any single cut. These are both hideously ugly to my sensitive eyelets. Also, anything with more than 4 strings.

 14. Here are a few more: Madness - One step beyond: NUT NUT NUTTY & NUT NUT DON´T WATCH THAT. 15. Yeah I always used to look on the run out grooves to see if it was a Porky prime cut and see if some other esoteric message had been scratched in. There is a youtube video of him somewhere. Edit: here it is
 16. Yeah the thing about the FJB - 20 is that if they hadn't messed about with the prices all over the place. Then nobody who had tried it would think that £530 or even £700 was overpriced, certainly not if they compared them to the Fenders in the store, and tried them side by side. I'm certainly glad that I bought both of mine when i did. I am actually GLAD the prices went down from £530 to £229 a while back, As it happened just when i tried to sell mine, when i was in need of money to repair the car. Three days after i put it up for sale, the price for a new one went down to £229. So I decided that there was no way I was gonna let it go for a daft price, and took it off the market. Very glad that happened now Some people who would not even dream of buying an instrument for £200, as they think it must be rubbish, and that money = quality, and quality always equals high prices. But they would buy the same item if it was £500 more expensive. I think this is partly where Farida went wrong. People simply didn't believe that a bass could be that good at so low a price. When this was and still is added to the fact that Farida gave them zero advertising backup, it meant that they didn't sell very well. (The guy on Amazon who is selling an FJB - 6 at £700 secondhand, must have either had a slip of the keyboard, or be mixing it up with the new price for the FJB - 20 ?)
 17.
I think I got the last one at £150 and they have about 4 left at £230, they reckon the new stock will be closer to £300 when they arrive. They are still great value even at twice the price.
Looks like people have wised up as to how good these are £230 of the queens pounds, seems to be the new price. Someone trying to sell a second hand one on amazon for 700 quid is a bit much though ! 19.
I like the words in BGM that you don't see (very often) in any other context, e.g. 'knurled' and 'chamfered'. I'm still not quite sure what any of it means, despite playing for over twenty years.
Knob both knurled and chamfered I used to love using the old knurler on a fresh piece of bar in my lathe, then if i didnt feel like living dangerouly I'd chamfer the edge with a file.
 20. That Strat type thing at the beginning looks a tad road worn ? He didn't get from eBay did he ?
 21. It took me a long time to get that riff down. Its best to try it for small time periods but regularly or you will drive yourself and everyone around you mad, playing that same riff over and over. Especially at first, when you cant quite get it.
If it helps, the first part of the line in a simple E Dorian scale.
Can't believe I never noticed that before?
 22. If I come up on the lotto ill buy it, as long as they put the badass bridge back on and Norman is there to hand it over. Even then id be hesitant to hand over 10G. Six maybe.
 23. Its probably that band jimmy Nail was in, wearing one doc marten and one trainer, as a 'gimmick' Easily phased on Tyneside in those days then ?
 24.
Smash the place up.
Seem em a dozen times in 1979 and the early 80s. brilliant ! They wouldn't have taken not been paid, lightly I assure you
