Hi, im considering chnging my bass. I like p-basses and spector at the mo, but was wondering whether there was any reason why split coil pups dont make much of an appearance on 5 string basses......unless ive missed something?? Is there a technical reason for this? Its mainly humbuckers and single coil. Just got me wondering whilst im looking around. Cheets

Neo Speakers and D Class amps sounding thin? A possible solution?
Salt on your Bass? replied to Dood's topic in Effects
Been considering these for a little while - this may just tip it thanks for the info. Whats the competition on the market for the Aphex? Anything close with a much smaller footprint? I used to use a VT with Class D heads and that really 'heft' them out. Good concept -
Slayer &the big4 ...
Salt on your Bass? replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I saw the big four in poland, sonisphere a few years back. Great show, but even then it felt like they were all acknoledging time by coming togeyher and the promo that attracted. For me, slayer were the most impressive band of the day followed by megadeth, anthrax and metallica. Everyone stepped out to perform i felt. I really like metllica but they tour so much, do a festival nearly every year, and their performances i think have become a bit boring and predictable - almost too polished. I agree testament should be in the big four, probably over anthrax in my view who manged to lose their way a bit, but still retain their accolade. -
Hi all, anyone using the vt or deluxe as your main overdrive/distortion/fuzz? Interested in band experience. I owned one a while back and liked it but was running loads of other distortions at the time so offloaded it. I like the tube emulation, but wondered about the gnarlier side of it with a band. Thanks

Something weird with subscription page

Yeah, I get the same - the subscription only applies to market place, is that correct?? -
recommendations for a bass overdrive/distortion
Salt on your Bass? replied to jamescage's topic in Effects
For distortion, id give a plus 1 to a rat. I ran a moded turbo rat for a while which was quite gnarly. Currently using a tech21xxl which i love nd find more aggressive than the rat. The aguilar aggro is also pretty good in this area. Id reccommend buying second hand - any dirt pedals ive ever tried sound great at home, but in a mix is where you really find out if ifs for you. Buying used means you can move them in and out and only suffer postage. Enjoy the hunt. Oh yeah, theres a wounded paw battering ram going in for sale. Worth checking out. -
Hi, Looking to trade for no other reason than I fancy a change. My ideal trade is for a Swollen Pickle. I could be open to other suggestions.... This is a brilliant pedal, i've had it for a couple of years, never been off my board and I may regret changing. It's the version with the mid switch and feels indestructable. Here's a pic: It has velcro on the bottom at present. Trade value - reckon circa £90 including postage? If you're not familiar with these, here's a link: http://www.sfxsound....page=micro_fuzz includes pics, sounds and description. Any queries, drop me a line. Cheers

Best trumpet player I've heard

How bout 'biker groove'?! You can have that for free

Yeah, I do agree - it stems from a lack of respect and appreciation of actually how long it takes to organise anything band related. Personally, I dont mind those that turn their phones off regularly etc and I know thats how they are - you just have to accept theres a certain approach to ensure they get the message. I find it a major problem when I know someone is always on their phone, updates their twitbook or whatever status, but still hasnt responded to a text about a gig. Or worse, responding to an email answering 2 out of 3 questioons not band/gig related and ignoring the one that is. They then wonder why you stop arranging rehearsals and gigs and then everytime you see them say "ah man, we should really jam sometime and get the band going again"....YEAH!? RIGHT!!! WHY DONT YOU BOOK SOMETHING UP AND SEE HOW DIFFICULT IT IS WHEN PEOPLE DONT RESPOND, THEN THE REHEARSAL ROOM IS FULLY BOOKED AND THE GIG'S BEEN GIVEN AWAY!!!! Cant say it bothers me that much though.....!
No - it's great. But when all you need is a 'yes' or 'no' from six or seven people, and you have a life to get on with, a group text message wins every time.
Thats pretty annoying, but I've got to confess at being pretty poor in replying to texts myself - I read it and if you dont respond straight away, forget its come in. If its band related though then its always a priority and does get responded to. Is it so bad having to speak to people? I know text is easier, quicker and the preferred form of communication for most people, but I dont mind talking ot bandmates, particulalry if its improtant and I know it'll be more painful if I text and wait.

I thought it was a direct reply to the advert......I think you may have goten away with it....other than for the massive edit!!
[s]In the nicest possible way (really!). You sound like an idiot. You probably aren't but you sound like it. All that stuff about mp3's and copyright..... good grief!! If you *are* an idiot... oh well, good luck I suppose.[/s] EDIT Ahh sh*t.... I should learn to read. This isn't somebody saying "what do you think of my ad" is it? Well, in that case, he's an idiot. :-D
Wow! I've been using this site a lot recently and finally getting to the point of talking to some guys about some kind of project. Would I reply to this ad? Nope. Why not? Because he knows a zillion artists, and I only know about 1,500. I very much like his no nonsense "Music isnt for a good time" approach though, together with meeting the right people and he'll be a success. I think theres better ways to entice people to respond to an ad and end up with what you're looking for. In summary, best of luck to the guy and it'd be interesting to be a fly on his PM box!

Bought a Cab from Buff. Really easy bloke to deal with, communicative and posted it in a shot! Took my plonkerisms in his stride, very nice bloke to deal with and wouldnt hesitate in recommending. I echo all of the positive feedback above. Many thanks! Edit - spelling

Fairly cheap new rig - , 8x10, 6x10 or 2x10/4x10 combination?
Salt on your Bass? replied to RussFM's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks bluray, thats some interesting info. Cheers -
Not sure why youd specifically stay away from ashdown, particularly if you havent heard them. Both mag and abm cabs have served me well over the years. As above though, just keep an eye on classifieds, theres some great gear to be had not very expensively if you dont need lightweight lightweight - peavey, trace in particular. Enjoy the hunt!

Salt on your Bass? replied to RussFM's topic in Amps and Cabs
Nice rig! I may go that way soon. You mean the 2 210s are noticeably louder than the single 410? (I guess the 410 is 8 ohm?) but not louder than the 610 arrangement? Thanks -

Its to do with comb filtering/cancellation and wave spacing or something along those lines, but dont want to reopen a debate on that. plenty in other threads. -
Yeah, i noted tesco in some google searches last week for gear. Good for gak i suppose, but weirdly seeing a tesco logo over the top of a shiney new bit of kit tarnishes and dampens my gas for said item - even though its from gak. Its also 30 quid more expensive than gak direct....maybe some search engine optimisation would have been better time spent? I cant see many musicians buying mid to higher end gear without shopping around, and certainly not during a weekly shop.

Are you sure you have a region 2 dvd?! Theres issues with the uploader atm. Use the hosting site and link rather than the uploader.

What Percentage Of BC'ers Use Effects?
Salt on your Bass? replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Went through a phse of trying to use a bit of everything to the point where i was forcing it a bit. Im back to a distortion and a fuzz and sometimes a wah for fun. always used more in my originals than my covers band. -

Actually, with this resurrected, what is the latest thinking with how a 210 and 410 pairing compares to 2 vertical 210s? -
