Bump ,no intrest and is something I said type of bump
If you don't mind a bit of constructive criticism mate, your ad is a bit cluttered and confusing now! Might be worth a bit of an edit to the OP to make it clear that the amp is no longer included in the deal. Might even be worth starting a new thread for just the cab as the original asking price will still remain. Also, you could be a bit more specific about exactly what the Barefaced cab is. IIRC, BF G1 didn't feature the Big Baby - so it would be G2 I guess? Links to the BF site for info (and original selling price) might well help your sale too
I've never got this. It's just an extra string and it's tuned to the same interval as the others. It was a long time ago (1989) but I can't remember the extra string on mu first 5-string giving me any problems when I started. Maybe I found myself on the wrong string a couple of times in the first couple of days, but that was it.
Cool. We're all different. I'm usually pretty flexible and ready to try new things, but for me there were no advantages of the various fives I've owned so I sold them on after a few months. To be fair, they were budget to mid-price instruments, so maybe I never gave fivers a "proper" chance? I'm pleased for you that you get on so well with your fives, but they are just not for me (at this moment in time, in this band, playing this material...).
... and walking around the room it was clear that these speakers are going to be great onstage. If I stand right in front of them a few metres away, there's a lot of midrange/treble and makes it sound perhaps a bit bass-shy... but just move away from the axis and the sound is very balanced and very uniform pretty much wherever I am.
Great review! I've pretty much decided that when cash allows I will be getting a pair of these little beauties, but the one thing that concerned me (especially after owning a Barefaced Big One) was the dispersion. You've largely put my mind at rest on that score - so thanks!
I have a HD210 which is identical to these but without carpet covering and it is brilliant. This is an excellent price for a pair, I must say!
They are indeed great cabs, but as I get a bit older I am finding it a bit of a struggle now that my band is starting to gig more frequently. Our rehearsal room is up two flights of twisty stairs and I am finding the Bergs a bit on the unwieldy side. I forget all that once they are plugged in, of course!
I had and played several 5s over the years but always seem to drift back to 4s. So for me it's 4 all the way.
Me too. I get all the advantages of fives, but my brain and hands just can't get used to them

Brilliant cabs. Awesome tone. Can be stacked vertically or horizontally for added flexibility. Adjustable tweeters. 8ohms and 400W handling (very conservatively rated!).
VPF is just a fancy name for a contour control, you'll lose your presence in the mix cranking that much above the off position.
Pretty much - except it depends on the actual mix (as stated earlier). It can be useful almost as an effect, instead of having to change the bass, high mid, low mid and treble controls! Assuming you want a bit of scoop for a certain song...
Unless the pots are noisy this would be a total waste of money,
Why? Have you tried one of KiOgons wiring looms? They make a heck of a difference to the sound of a bass - especially one that has cheap components as standard.
-
I'd have thought that changing the STRINGS would have far more of an effect - especially if you put roundwounds on (assuming that you don't like the tone of flats of course, but you wouldn't be asking about changing pickups if you liked the sound you currently get!).
-
If you can afford them (they ain't cheap - even second-hand) then Barefaced should definitely be on your "to-try" list They can be real game-changers.
-
No shortage of low end on my LM2! In fact it has too much for what I need so the bass control is usually at just past 12 o'clock! Sounds relatively "warm" too (to my ears).
-
...you definitely don't want to be scooping your mids in a live situation as you will not be heard.
In most cases I'd agree, but it depends on the band. In my band there is no keys, but there are two guitars - their owners use very clean, clear "jangly" tones and so the bass has a pretty big sonic space. Even with some mid-cut the bass comes through well. It should be used judiciously though, as you say.

(Belated) NAD - Peavey 400 Series Mark IV Head
Conan replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Amps and Cabs
I always wanted one of these... loved the tone whenever I used one (or at least i think I did, it was about 30 years ago!). -
I like the VPF as I sometimes like to cut the midrange without adjusting the core tone... but I find no real use for the VLE. Why would anyone want to sound all dull and thumpy?
i'll be there, will there be name badges this time? Matt
Good idea! With BC user names as well as "real" names
The BB2 will go much louder than any other 112 cab, including the Vanderkley. As Barefaced cabs are very good at putting out what you put in I'd suggest you could check your tone settings or check the cab by trying a different amp.
This ^ except that I would edit it to say that most BF cabs are very good at putting out what you put in. Some are designed to be coloured Some amps just don't "work" with some cabs. I tried a few different ones with my BF Big One so i learned that the hard way...
It's not pot luck if the cabs were designed to work together and many of them are!!
Ah, but were they really "designed" to work together, or do the manufacturers just tell us that so that we'll buy them?
Just sounds to me his mids are boosted to much combined with any bass with its pu near the bridge sounds to me like a recipe for clank and harsh tone. Surely adding lows will help balance this?
Cutting some of the troublesome high mids would make more sense I think. Much more sensible to get rid of what is causing the problem than try to mask it by adding something else IMO/IME
There's a little bit of nonsense on Basschat about all this. A couple of designers on here selling their designs have made some broad statements which are then repeated by fans who love their products but without the deeper understanding of those who made the original statements.
Surely not?! On Basschat????

Another predictable vote for Heroes... and The Bewlay Brothers - I just love love the feel and atmosphere of that one (and indeed the whole of Hunky Dory).
If I ordered a bass finished in Burgundy Mist & that turned up I'd be VERY pissed off.
Yeah - even allowing for the colour not photographing well, that's not even close to the Fender Burgundy Mist is it? Not a bad colour in itself, but not exactly what it says on the tin
