Cheap batteries tend not to last as long. There could be a wiring fault... have you looked inside to check for a short-circuit of some kind? Or get a technician or luthier to do it for you. 6 or 7 hours use is pretty terrible, even for cheap rechargeables!

I much prefer to use the terms 'deep' and 'shallow' rather than 'thick' and 'thin' to describe the distance from front to back on a neck. Makes much more sense to me anyway! Consequently, my Status has a wide but shallow neck.

It's just what people are used to seeing. Its a bit like putting the same engine into two different cars, maybe. Does the same thing, but looks different. Personally, I prefer the look of soapbars - but in guitars that have always had SCs in single casings, they look wrong IMO. A Jazz bass with soapbars? Yuk.

[/quote] A pickup that does not introduce its own character to the sound. Although I would have thought that most pickups do this, as the acoustic sound is very different to the transduced and amplified sound. To test this, try holding a microphone up to a vibrating bass string. Is that really the sound that you would want?

I'd say £100 a gig was pretty good - especially as you haven't had to pay into the PA, rehearsals or any other costs. But it depends on the band of course. If you hate the material and only do it for the dosh, then a ton might not cover your umbrage. If you like the band and the material, I'd just keep schtum and take the cash.

If your ears tell you that it sounds good, then, for you, it probably does. Of course, if you understand the tech stuff, you might actually see the truth in it and decide to take notice of it. Not everyone does of course, but it had certainly helped me refine my tone from what it was a few years ago when all I cared about was if i could hear myself...
