1. Spent an hour on it Chris. Couldn't find many concrete yay or nay opinions. Thought a fresh thread might yield better results given that they've been out for about 4 years now.
2. My brother swears by bananas. (He's a drummer, bassist and does a lot of long distance running so he's well used to joint pains). Apparently it has something to do with the Potassium content.
3.
2 speakers pushing the same air? I'd rather have 2 speakers pushing twice the air of 1. I don't know if "the principal" is sound as this format isn't used by anyone else. If it was, surely more companies would be doing it.
Aye, like I said, I'm sceptical.
Not been impressed with the ones I've tried. Small, yes, but heavy for the size, and not very deep/loud.
Cheers Muzz.
I'd get 1 Barefaced cab. That would be an ultra compact rig that would exceed the capabilities of these Orange cabs. I'd add another if needed.
I'd love one Chris . But the cost of a secondhand compact over here is around €600. That would get me two of the SP212's going by current secondhand prices.
4. As Skank suggested, the DSL is a serious amp. Can get really close to the JCM 800 and JCM 900. I reckon they should be in budget. I'd also recommend a Crate V30 if you can find one. Super amps. Other than that you're looking at Blackstar (HT 40 or similar). They can push out some Fender-like cleans but have a really nice OD (most un-Fender-like).
5. These "Smart Power" cabs have intrigued me for a while. The principle is sound but something in the back of my mind keeps saying gimmick. Has anyone been using one of these for a few months/years? If so just how much air do they actually push? Ultimately I'm looking at stacking either two SP210's or two SP212's for when louder onstage volume is needed, however, I'd really like to have an ultra compact 2x12 or 2x10 for smaller gigs that I can power with a suitable head/power amp.

Acoustic Bass

Just a quick heads up regarding the neighbours. When I'm practicing on my acoustic it can be clearly heard in the rooms downstairs. Try and get a model that doesn't have a jumbo body. Should stop the sound from travelling too far. Having said all that if the flat has good sound insulation between floors then iqnore my post.
7. Did anyone notice the cover of the December issue? "25 Basses Under £500: Half a century of basses for half a grand" I'm afraid that's it for me. It's been a good run but if I had opted to hold on to my €6 I splash on each issue I could now afford one of the [s]50[/s] 25 basses reviewed.
8. Snap. Jumped out of bed this morning humming I want you back. Decided it was time to learn it properly. Almost there..
9. Took a punt on one a few weeks ago and haven't looked back. Great piece of kit. Depping tonight in the local for some mates. Gonna be VMJ>Mammoth Clone>BDI21>PA. Great tone doesn't have to come at a huge cost.
10. Personally I don't. I just bring the bass most suited to my needs. I have however been on the end of some looks at session and dep gigs when I pulled out the 6 string. Apparently blues guitards are only aware of P and J basses in sunburst....
11. In fairness, he probably read it on a forum. That's where most of the wisdom comes from these days. The easiest way around it is to put them on the spot. In this case by asking something along the lines of "played much bass in a rock band then guv?"
12. Jesus . Thank feck 99% of the playing I do is for fun, always though it was the point of playing with other musicians. A lot of people here need to chill out.

EBS FuzzMo

Just went through the sound samples. Meh. This seems to be the gist of it. Unfortunately everything seems to be recorded with a P bass. No good to me then https://soundcloud.com/ebs-soundsamples/03-fuzzmo/s-O2pwy
14. They wont give you the same result as a Spector straight out of the box but with a little work from the SVT you should get (almost) the same result or very close to it. I'm assuming you want the slightly overdriven/grindy tone that's associated with Spectors? If that's the case then any active with decent electronics running through something like an MXR M80 or a EBS Microbass etc. will give you similar results. Just blend in some OD (20%-30%)with the clean signal. Spectors pump out a lot of low mids IME so boosting them on the guitar should also help.
15. If you don't need the modelling features then I'd suggest the Line 6. The Nova System can be a bitch to programme. Having said that the B3 is a tidy little package.
16. Aye I have done. The neighbour had one for years. Got rid of it when he got a Sadowsky 5. The Neck-through and piezo do give a different tone compared to the 1006 but IME it wasn't too much better. Then again I've never been drawn on the piezo thing on an electric bass. I don't see the point.
17. Quick answer would be to change the preamp in the TRB to a Tonepump and lob some EMG pickups in there as well. As an aside, IMO, that is not the typical Spector tone. Its very HiFi and that should be possible with a TRB. The bass tone in Actors would be a better representation of the classic (Euro) Spector Growl. Again IMO this is classic Spector tone. Warwick basses

I've had a few Streamers over the years and sold all of them except the first one I bought. IMO the newer instruments (from around 2000 onwards) are poor when compared to the earlier models. They still sound fantastic but the QC has dropped. Someone like Chris Larkin could design you a bass which would sound better but still be capable of producing Warwick esque tones if needed. Having said all that, if you have your heart set on a wick nothing else will do. Definitely look at the secondhand market.
19. The girlfriends sister..................And P basses.
20.
http://www.thebasspl...s-mute-kit-p-54
Cheers Dave. I decided to go down the highly technical route. Stuck some hard foam under the strings at the bridge.
21. Those Vintage (brand) V100's are nice guitars and go for little money secondhand. You could go the Epi route. I really like the Les Paul Ultra III. The Zakk Wylde sig is also a really nice guitar. I've been using mine a lot lately.
22. That is a damn fine tone. Do the big F still supply that bridge assembly? Couldn't spot one on the website.
23. Unfortunately if you're playing Deathcore with 100 watt half stack wielding guitards means you'll need to run about 500 watts into a 4x10 (IME). Remember that the HX410 is an 8ohm cab so if you run it with the HA or LH head they wont be running at full tilt. FWIW, when I'm supplying backline for metal gigs I usually bring my LH500 and an Ashdown Mag 410 deep. They sound really good together and would cost very little if you go secondhand.
24. A Tony Levin signature OLP would be right up your street I reckon.
