1.
I know how I'd feel.
I imagine WaxL had similar feelings afterwards!
2. In the blurb they say the P is the most popular bass of all time. I'm assuming they mean sales wise. I think both go through phases of popularity. These swing about very quickly. A year or two ago this place was awash with P GAS. They ain't so popular at the moment but give it another few months.

4. As Myke asked. Do the punters notice? If they do point out that's its going to make the band sound unprofessional. That means less gigs. He obviously doesn't put in the work at home.
5. We can rebuild him. We can make him stronger, faster, cheaper. We can make him....CHEAPER????? I just might take a punt on one of those Blackline 250's.

Ibanez FG100

I'd say you could price it from £800 - £1,200 depending on the condition. AFAIK the Ibanez AS cases will fit as will most of the Gibson cases as the dimensions were almost identical to some of their models. (That's essentially what stopped production on these).
7. Sounds like he may have a confidence issue. He's under/over compensating. I wouldn't ask him to change his amp its his choice and if he's happy using it then its nobody's business but his own . A Strat or Ibby into a Mesa can produce some of the cleanest tones out there. People forget most Mesa's are just modded Fenders. Point him in the direction of a power soak like the THD Hotplate if it gets too loud. If the band is working well he should have no problem making slight adjustments if it suits the bigger picture.
8.
Another 'Ashdown cabs sound wooly' claim. Because of course, bands and artists like U2, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Blockheads, Elbow, Pino, John Entwhistle, Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam etc.... Would use wooly sounding equipment wouldn't they. For the record, whenever I play through my ABM amp and cab, people are totally blown away. A reputable sound engineer in Cardiff said it was the best bass tone he'd ever heard. Too many people on here jumping on the bandwagon I feel.
Of course they wouldn't have bothered recording multiple bass tracks through a multitude of processors in extremely professional environments and mastered the sh*te out of each track would they..... I actually like the MAG in some situations. Works very well with my LH500. With the Reidmar it can lack some high mid/high end definition. It all depends on the other variables, ie. bass, strings, head, technique etc. The ABM was probably more tolerable of different heads. Both are decent enough cabs in my book. Construction quality on the ones I've used has been excellent. FWIW I sold the ABM and kept the MAG as my throwabout 410.
9. I'd go with Yamaha. Fantastic basses. Look out for some of the older BB series. You could pick up an excellent bargain.
10.
If you knew about Flea at all, you'd know that he absolutely abhorrs those who go on stage and mime and do their best to trick their fans into believing that what their hearing is the same as what they are seeing. Flea obviously didn't want anybody to think that he was genuinely playing right then and there, so he removed his wireless transmitter, and thus removed any doubt that what people were hearing was not actually what they were seeing.
Sweet Jaysus! Did he tell you that over tea and crumpets? If that's the case he must really hate the guys in Bruno Mars band who had the audacity to plug in while miming. God only knows how he feels about his bandmate, who clearly has issues. Honestly, a pink strat is the worst choice for the non performing performer. Tonight I shall pray for Flea. May his weary soul be at one with his millions.
11. How's your intonation on a fretless? If you're not too accurate I'd go with a fretted Jazz or similar.
12. You be surprised how much oil comes off you fingers/hands and how quickly airborne particulate matter can become lodged.
13. I regularly switch between picks and fingers depending on the requirements of the song. There's one thing to be mindful of when choosing a pick. Different materials and thicknesses will produce different tones. Make sure that when you settle on a gauge and material that the tone produced sits well within the overall band mix.
14. It has happened to me but only with set which are 3-4+ weeks old, particularly on basses which I hand around at sessions. It's usually just grime and oil from peoples skin. Keep some surgical swabs and some rags in the case and wipe down the strings before and after use.
15. I honestly think bands need to take more responsibility. If you expect to be paid for a gig, particularly an originals gig, you damn well better be professional enough to turn up on time with the correct gear and most importantly entertain the regular punters, i.e. try to play in a venue which regularly has acts from a particular genre and/or with other acts from a similar genre. It is not entirely up to the club owner (or to a certain degree the promoter)to get heads in the door, the band has to be the draw, not beer promotions or entry concessions. The band/act is there solely to provide entertainment. If you think you deserve better pay up you're game.
16. Another Day has a low C# in the main melody progression so that rules it out on a 4 string. I'd also suggest Surrounded. Just watch out for the tricky 9/8 time sig.
17.
how? by having a dummy load in there?
Dunno how its done but my Hydrive 112 has that option and its come in useful very often (see below)
A switchable cab would ultimately mean just adding some form of resistance to a 4 ohm cab, which would create more problems than it solved (i.e. heat) for no increase in volume. The only reason I could see for doing this would be if your amp didn't go to 8 ohms. Impedance switching on cabs is just marketing nonsense IMHO.
(See above) I've used the impedance switching on my Hydrive 112 on a few occasions to get the full 500 watts out of the LH. Usually in mid sized venues without adequate monitoring.
18.
I'd also like to know from the bands who "judge" the room and alter the set list accordingly, what would have happened if you'd stuck to the set list? So how good was your set list in the first place and why would you be playing numbers that wouldn't work in the first place?
They flow would be too stop/start. Every venue/pub/town has certain songs which always go down well. The trick is keeping the punters entertained for an hour and a half until you bring out the real crowd pleasers for the final 30-45 minutes. Generally we work by the rule, "When you have them dancing on the pool tables you've nailed the intensity. When they start kicking 7 shades of sh*te out of each other you pull it back a bit".
19. Design the best cab for metal \m/ Seriously though, fair play for taking this on and sharing it. It's gonna be an interesting watch. One suggestion I'd make would be having the 1x12 switchable between 8 and 4 ohms. Obviously the more components added will increase the overall cost but perhaps the final plans could have this as an option.
20. It's irrelevant. The ability to create and play suitable basslines is what makes a player "cool".
21. I listen to the track(s) a few times to get the form of the bassline then head to rehearsal to find out what key the singers want it in.
22. Mog

Pedal power

Dunlop DCB 10. Around £100 - £120 new.
23. I actually think having a set order to play songs is a bad idea. Half the battle with entertaining punters is being able to read the room, ie, if you play a venue where songs X,Y & Z always go down well why risk playing them earlier in the night and having someone ask for them again later in the night? You should try and get your bandmates to agree on blocks of 3-4 song and run through the set in that manner.
24. One of these would cover just abut any situation. http://www.spectorbass.com/Euro-NS-NT/Euro6LX.html
