1. Trace gear is quality, end of! I still use my GP 12SMX 4x10 combo anytime I play in a new venue. Oodles of power and tonal options. Once I've the room acoustics and power requirements figured out I go back to the Redhead for subsequent gigs.
2. Hi y'all. Do any of you Lads & Lassies have any experience with KME Fidelity Series bins? There's a pair of BS1151's on sale relatively cheaply nearby and I'm tempted to pull the trigger. One of the covers bands could do with upgrading the backline and I'm thinking these might do nicely. Cheers.
3. I reckon half of TE's initial problems were due to the fact that they had too many products in the range. The newer/newest ranges are spot on IMO. 3 heads, 3 combos and 8 (I think) cab designs. Price wise they are a little bit OTT lately but the quality is still there. In terms of tonal variation and versatility a 12 band Trace is hard to beat.
4. Cheers for the replies peeps. I'm thinking I'll just use a preloaded sample on the loop pedal. And no, Billie Jean shall not be played.........
5. Theres a lot of differences between the two. If you are going to go for a Spector do it soon as theres another price hike coming.
6. Cheers phagor. Might be the best option.
7. One of the cover bands wants to give Bright Lights Bigger City a go which is fine with me, there's a nice handy pocket groove throughout the tune. However I'd prefer if we could replicate the synth stabs at the start of the tune. My plan is to play them on bass and record the phrase with a loop pedal which would allow me to replay it as needed during the song. However! I'm having real trouble emulating the sound. I'm thinking an EHX Ringworm before a Digitech Bass Whammy might get me close but that's a lot of tap dancing. Any input would be greatly appreciated. 8.
Phantom power for the sax only, active bass, DI from TC head post compression, input gain no where near red lighting, just a bit on the front end for spread of sound as mentioned in a previous post. I'm guessing it's just a dodgy desk, singer seems to think as it was supplied to her for her solo act by putting stuff into the other 11 channels (especially the bass) we are damaging it!! At the end of the day we all help with repairs but I object to getting the blame and if it keeps happening how much money do we throw at it! Oh and if anything redlines it it's always her vocals or the bass drum!!
Ye're overloading the desk leading to it blowing a transformer. Despite the strips being kept below clipping there's still too much running at the same time.
9. Badger is such an under rated bassist. Always full of grooves. I've always found the easiest way to get his lines down are to break the down into component parts. With GTFO its a fairly basic groove based around C (B if we're being pedantic). You can get away with the same riff for most of the verse. It pays to ad lib the choruses just to keep it interesting. The only really tricky part is about 60 bars in. There's some nifty slide passages before the solo kicks in.
10.
I believe the later series Highway Ones (the ones with the Badass bridge) had carbon fibre rods in the neck like the Am Stds do, so they ought to have decent stability. I had one and it was a very nice bass - the only obviously cheap things about it were the machineheads (which worked fine) and the matt finish.
Cheers lad. Hadn't heard about the carbon strips. In Rod we trust! The two I've been watching have Badass II bridges. The nitro finish is kinda appealing at the mo. I'm gassing for some mojo.
11. I've recently sold a few of the basses I had lying around for students, mostly VMJ's and RBX's so I've a few €'s to throw at another bass. There's a couple of Highway One Jazz basses for sale SH on the local flea market for roughly 450 of your GB£'s. Having never spent much time with one I'm wondering if it's worth taking a gamble on one? £450 seems dirt cheap for a US Fender. My major gripe with Fenders over the years has been the soft necks, ie. they always seem to bow easily. So the question is, have any H.O. owners experienced any problems WRT build quality etc? Ideally I'll be throwing a set of DiMarzio Model J's into one so I'm not really too concerned with sound quality. I know exactly what the DiMarzios will offer.
12. Bloody awful. What's happened to Warwick?
13. I used to blend clean and fuzz signals. I don't really bother anymore. There's tonnes of lowend punch on tap from the Spectors.
14. Despite the countless hundreds of €'s I've spent on Fuzz units over the years I always go back to the good old V8 Muff.
15. I picked one up for €70 about a year ago. Nothing wrong with them at all. The preamp is surprisingly good. The only minor drawback is the size.

Ibanez FG100

They might not. It's a fairly rare guitar in the UK and Ireland AFAIK. Gibson took offense to the design and production lasted about 2-3 years. I not sureofthe original price of these but they certainly weren't budget guitars unlike the newer Artcore models which range from a couple of hundred to over a grand.
17. If you like a super bright string then you'll be buying multiple sets a month anyways. 99% of the time the A,D,G strings are fine so just buy a single E string. Elixers will deteriorate just like every other string. Use a plec and the coating shreds. Capillary action takes care of the rest. Straight out of the box they're about as bright as my strings are when they come off the bass so they're a no no for me.
18. Great strings. I prefer Dean Markley Blue Steels for SS sets but the Pro Steels are almost as good. I used to use EXL 175's almost exclusively until about two weeks ago when I purchased a set for the 6 string. Turned out there was no D string in the box. That was the 4th set of EXL's that had a fault in a couple of months so I'm switching to something else. If you get a hankering for a string that's a little less bright then the EXLs are worth a punt.
19. FWIW I generally don't like P basses in trad situations. A Jazz or P/J or H/H style bass with the bridge pup slightly favoured sounds much better IMO. Check out the Kila tracks Rachel's Reel and Epicy for an idea of the sound/tone.
20. The crafter will be just a useless if there's more than one acoustic guitar and perhaps even a single jumbo bodied acoustic. You'll just about get away playing an unamplified acoustic bass with a banjo, whistle and bodhrán but add an accordion or similar into the mix and you wont be heard in a decent sized room.

22.
Aye, it's Ben Verellen's band so it's probably a big spider into the Meat Smoke, or to be honest it could just be the meat smoke on it's own.
Aye. I reckon there's a bit of grit from the amp involved too. And don't forget those DiMarzio pups are fairly scooped so they'll add a lot to the tone.
23.
I suppose the reason is market forces blah, blah, blah, but I know what you mean. I wonder what their failure rate is for the stuff re-tested in Italy? There need not be any problems with Asian manufacturers so double testing would seem to just be an additional cost. Oh well, I'm sure their bean-counters have it all figured out. I wonder if EU countries like Romania and Bulgaria are not missing a trick here. Couldn't they set up a suitable factory for this sort of thing and compete with the Asian countries for low labour cost stuff? Maybe not as low, who knows, but it would save on import duties by keeping everything within the EU. But despite all the discussion and MB feedback there's still no clarification about the weight issue. Is it really so difficult for them to find a set of scales and just weigh the damn things?
Educated workforce who have to put up with surprisingly high cost of living expenses and European Employment Laws would be the answer there I suspect.
