1.
So I finally took the plunge and bought a vintage Musitronics Mu-Tron III as I wanted to find out if they really are the holy grail when it comes to envelope filters. I had a rehearsal last night and used the pedal for the first time and wow what a sound! It is the wettest, dirtiest and funkiest filter that I have ever used. I had the pedal modded by L-Sound so that it is now true bypass and they also re-calibrated it which I understand make it sound better. I have tried a lot of other filters and the 'tron certainly gets me the sound that I have always been after from a filter. If anyone is going through the dilemma that I was over these legendary pedals then take the plunge and buy one - you wont be disappointed.
I guess you are referring to the modern "replica" of the Mutron? If so, there are snobs who thumb their noses at them (and the Maxon AF-9 is allegedly the true descendent), but I have played with one and thought it amazing! I also have an AF-9 - it's pretty cool, but I actually prefer my Boss AW-2. Trust only your own ears!
 2. That looks EXACTLY like my first bass. Down to the use of the first Westone logo too. Can't say I was ever fond of it - but those who aspire to own a precision should take note!
 3. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F...%2F&h=c79f2 The session starts at around 24 mins. Fast forward to 38mins for the fuzz shredding!!!! And if you've not yet discovered Hatfield and the North - now you have! Circa 18974, they're a peculiar blend of pop, jazz, prog and general English quirkiness.
 4.
Tell me about it! I had to remove a listing on ebay for a 330 copy three times, even after just showing a close-up photo of it's toaster pickup! The third time had no photos at all, but JH also strongly objected to the use of 'copy of... Weller, Townsend, McGuinn & Lennon' in the title description! He even sent me a cease & desist message, calling me a counterfeiter & describing my actions as 'sneaky' & 'cynical'.
If he only put all that energy into building guitars - there'd be a lot more Ricks about and the prices of the genuine articles would be much more reasonable (and then there'd be less incentive for the copyists to try to push their "replicas"...)
 5.
It all seemed a little odd, given that JH has been harassing Hipshot for using the same footprint for their replacement bridge.
He's certainly a little odd in this respect. And in terms of running a company capable of churning out instruments in decent quantities these days. That said, he is still the same lovely guy who spent a couple of hours of his own time giving me a guided tour of the Snata Ana plant and regaling me with stories of Lemmy and the like.

 8.
On the topic of bespoke and stepped pedalboards, I came across this Netherlands based company the other day: Paul Lenders Custom Pedalboards This is my favourite looking pedalboard on there. I'm going to try and mimic the style cos I like it so much They also make their own effects which look amazing... though no idea how they sound!
That's interesting. Thanks for the link. I agree, stepped pedalboards are much more ergonomic (in terms of allowing error free stomping)....
 9. I've been contemplating something like this too. A stepped design is so much more ergonomic than a sloped board...
 10. Thanks for the creative suggestions - I think I'd rather have the rigidity of cast aluminium construction, but keep them coming!
 11.
How do you mean? Getting hold of the stuff or getting into it once you've built it?
Getting the innards in!
 12.
Think you might have a problem buying something that shape "off the shelf" as I can't think of a generic use for it. Perhaps take a look at companies selling aluminium extrusion by the metre, cut it off to the right length and make a pair of end panels to fit? There's also metal conduit, usually galvanised steel - usually from electrical wholesalers and again sold by length.
I thought of that too - problem is accessibility!
 13.
Are any of these any good? http://www.rapidonline.com/Tools-Fasteners...nclosures/71713
Thanks for the link. Not really, no. I need something long and thin (ooo-errr).
 14. This one is probably a bit too big (in each dimension):- http://gb.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Hammond...252bTo1Czr/A%3d
 15. Best I can find is this one:- http://www.banzaimusic.com/Enclosure-AL-63-NAT.html
 16.
I've used one from banzai that's as long as your request but is 70mm square in depth and height. I can't find it right now (just about to go watch Gorillaz) but I think Umph has a link somewhere.
I've been looking on Banzai, but can't find one!
 17. Does anyone know a supplier for a long, thin enclosure? I need one to house 5 footswitches in a row.... so I guess about 300mm long. It only need be about 30mm high (as a typical effect pedal) and About 60mm deep.
 18.
However it wasnt too easy - Drill slipped and....... Managed to superglue the lump back in - hope its fixed for next tuesday jam sesh!
Ouch!!!!!
 19. I haven't been around these boards long enough to know the history. I am not surprised trading has been prevalent in the past - especially given the relatively high prices of instruments (not just Rickenbackers) and the uncertainty in the economy. I agree there has been a few glimmers of optimism over the last 18 months, which ought to have seen more buoyant sales, but now, with the prospects of redundancy looming over many of us, we are suddenly much more cautious in our spending. I would therefore also expect to see more trading, but also downward pressure on sales prices. Time will tell...
 20.
Someone is gonna be very happy with this one.
Would look great with a tortie scratchplate. (Did I really just say that?)
 21.
Just in case anyone was looking to upgrade their RickenFaker ...
I couldn't condone anyone putting one of these on a real Rick tho'! ;-)
