Old thread resurrection - does anybody use a carry case for theirs? Something like a small peli case or maybe a radio mic case?

  3. Never thought I would actually do this but something has come up that has fired up a serious case of GAS. Here we have my Japanese 57RI P bass made in December of 1985 according to the pencil date on the neck butt. In my opinion the BEST P bass colour combo - two tone sunburst, gold anodised guard and maple board. It comes with the original white pickguard and pickups - currently the pickups in her are Toneriders but i do still have the originals for those into that sort of thing. Set up a while back at Jacks instrument repairs and currently sports the excellent and superb Elites Detroit flatwound strings. couple of small dings and the usual belt buckle rash on the back. I will dig out the luggage scales to answer the usual BC question. Don't see too many around at this age - most i see online are 90's ones. Depending on your 'vintage' this is either very Duck Dunn or Alex James I don't currently have a gig bag or case as this travels in my duo gig bag but if that's a deal breaker I can buy a cheapo one. As this is only on the block for something that has cropped up I'm not looking for trades at the moment. If I've overpriced I'm open to ONO offers The bass is based in Bolton but could do meets. Any further questions please shout.
  4. and to be fair their beer is absolutely f***in awful!
  5. Guess by small i mean something more 70's looking, big back plates - ideally the fender branded ones that i have on my 75 RI jazz would be perfect and in keeping with the 70's styling. Obviously im nit picking here
  6. Recently I've found myself picking my Jazz up much more than my P in my new band. I like the body size and the thin neck a little more so this has me looking round at other Jazzers and i came across this beauty https://www.coda-music.com/bass-guitars/fender-japan-ltd-international-colour-jazz-bass-sienna-sunburst.html Probably more than I'm willing to pay and the small tuners along with basswood body have me a little underwhelmed but the block and bound neck, 70's styling and THAT colour certainly made my wallet twitch. Seems they have been out for a few years but its the first ive seen of them. Any users on here want to chime in with their experience?
  7. Anyone spotted this on the crack coverters website? https://www.cashconverters.co.uk/shop/music-tv--video/musical-instruments/guitars--string-instruments/bass-guitar/047300072685
  8. Also i note there are no pup or bridge cover holes, or thumbrest holes for that matter - is that normal on 80's fenders?
  9. Not necessarily truly 'vintage' but what's everyone's thoughts on this tasty looking jazzer over at bass Bros:- https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1982-fender-jazz-bass/ Down as an '82 but the Fender serial lookup thingy comes up as a '78. Not seen a bounded dot neck before and as someone who is a recent jazz convert and looking for a nice older bass this is ticking a few boxes!
  10. Just to update. We had our first rehearsal with the spyder last night. Played a groundwound loaded Jazz bass into an Eden 4x10. I was worried at how much quieter the spyder seemed at home playing than my ABM400. However, once i had my sound dialed in - none of the shift buttons engaged, bass and treble boosted slightly and mids rolled off a little - and the jazz to 100% neck pickup, 25% bridge pickup and tone rolled off a little bit, it was glorious. Ive set the amp with the gain at around 75% and the volume at 12 oclock and it was nice, even, slightly growly and very beefy. Currently in its belly is a Tung Sol 12AX7 in v1 and a Sovtek 12AX7B in V2. As mentioned before these dont really do full on grit even with the gain maxed but it does have a lovely warm sound and IMHO a much clearer tone than the ABM

  12. So, i was selling my ABM 400 with the idea of going to a combo but a Spyder 330 came up locally at a decent price and peaked my memories of one i had years back. Now, these things are pretty quiet for supposed 300w at 4ohms - my ABM 400 is MILES louder but the core tone is lovely. A bit of a one trick pony with no much in the way of EQ but lovely nonetheless. I remember years ago i did a bit of valve swapping in my 550 combo and to be fair it did make quite a difference (better or worse is subjective). Was wondering if any members on here are regular spyder users - either the 550 or 330 - and has done any valve swapping? The pre in these is designed to be clean and warm rather than providing much in the way of grit but im sure ive read people who put different 12ax7's in to coax a little more growl out of them.
  13. So it looks like the VU bulb has gone. Amp works fine still and i have contacted Ashdown regarding a replacement. Dave Green is kindly sending one over and ill get it fitted asap
  14. Had a great tone with my ABM last night using the pre-shape button but also leaving the EQ on and boosting the mids a little. I also have an Ashdown Spyder - would replicating the preshape on the ABM just be a case of scooping the mids on the spyder and boosting the bass and treble? Is it that simple?
  15. ooh, missed this first time around. Lovely bass, if my Cabronita eventually sells ill be in touch
  16. A real shame as their flats and halfrounds in particular were fantastic. They did seem to change the recipe towards the end though and their newer flats were never quite as good as the original silkless ones
  17. https://www.amazon.co.uk/CL170850BR-Pointer-Rubber-Plastic-Shaft/dp/B07121WYZH These look similar?
  18. Been considering one of these for a while to pair with my Eden 4x10. if my stuff shifts anytime soon i may well be in touch!
  19. If i hadnt just bought a 70's style jazz bitsa id be all over this! GLWTS
  20. Offers welcome if it is felt i have over priced this.
  21. Theres a vintage jazz bass doing the rounds on reverb and FB at £3k. 74 sunburst, all the right mojo, mainly original bar the pickguard. Ive literally just bought a cheap jazzer so i can leave my p bass at home on 'dodgy' gigs but that still doesnt mean im not looking to sell EVERYTHING for the jazz on reverb!
  22. Gorgeous amp and as already mentioned one of the more realistically priced of the ones I've seen online recently. GLWTS
