1. i could get mine to do mild break up nicely, but i changed the stock valve for something else i can't for the life of me now recollect!
  2. I sometimes miss my LH500, absolutely fantastic amp for not a lot of cash.
  3. Is this still available? V interested for my new tiny practice rig
  4.
I've looked at the numbers of both 210 and 115 cabs, for both Epi and EBS and yes, there's very little difference in therms of frequencies, responses and other things... fine the speaker is larger and the 'box' is differently constructed, but the differences on the paper are not great. I have tested recently a Hartke rig, 4x10 on it's own and then with a 1x15 + 4x10 and I could actually hear the difference in the low end, so I'm not sure now if I was imagining that or if it does make a difference. I certainly don't want to invest in a 115 and then find out that a) it makes no difference and no one else wants it, so resell value is zilch!
2 things: 1. The specs may read the same on paper but are probably not quite reality. Lots of threads discuss this. Like you say, you need to try them. 2. just coz JTUK doesn't like 15s doesn't mean there isn't a market for them. Personally I ONLY use 15s at the moment
  5.
Beautiful. Same colour as the S2 I used to have. Good luck with the sale!
+1. I always regret not being able to buy your S2 when you sold it
  6. A masterpiece. Cracking album, I always thought it was a Ric too. Learning lots here, never even knew there was a US mix!
You're starting to sound like a bunch of schoolboys.....
No we're not...! BTW, +1 on everyhting you said about the Big One. I know nothing of the Super Twelve as I'm yet to hear one, but I know the Big One is an awsome, awesome cab

    Best 2x12

No, the MAIN point is Maximum Tone. Minimum weight is not the main point. Alex and Russ are winding each other up
  9.
Can anyone please help me find an impartial fair and reasonable valuation of my Vox gear.
*sucks air in through teeth* I think you''ll be lucky to get much at all mate, I'll give you £40 to do you a favour and take it off your hands Sorry, not helpful at all. No idea. I'll get me coat.
  10.
In terms of reliability, I say an amp was reliable if you ran it for 5 years without a blink. I assume people plug into it at home so that is say, 300 days a year times a good few years. So, taking that as MY guide, I've had mine for nearly 20 under those conditions and it failed when someone knocked it over under power and needed few things replaced by a decent tech. Cost £35:00. That is my benchmark, now. Just sayin'....
Good benchmark The only amp I've had fail on me occurred when a friend dropped it out of a van and the heatsinks fell off the power transistors... Anyhoo, I've got an MB200 on order for a cheap+tiny home/rehearsal head. Should be arriving late Feb so I'll let you all know what I think (Edited for smelling pistakes)
  11. What's your current condition? Doesn't sound good!
  12.
'Nearly true'... what the **** is that supposed to mean when you pile a doom gig into it.
Nearly true flat, as in getting a truly flat response is physically impossible
If they do what you want them to do and you think they are a good deal, then fine.
Aye
  13.
You expect me to believe a cab designed like this is the benchmark of all things bass cabs.
That's not what he said, he essentially said it was arguably the only nearly true flat bass cab on the market. He also stated that it wasn't what he'd look for in a cab!
  14. The Ampeg will sound totally different, to begin with probably "muddy" in comparison to what you're used to. Just o bear that in mind!
  15.
If anything, its missing a knob, a Gain! Even though it has a tube you dont have the option to push it so its constantly 'clean'.
It doesn't need a gain because it's a high voltage, high headroom input circuit designed to be clean. That said, stick a gain boost in front of it (or use a bass with hot pickups) and you'll get a nice breakup from the valve. I did the latter when I owned one
  16. I just "accidentally" phoned Mark @ Bass Direct (twice, bloody HSBC...) and "accidentally" paid for an MB200 to be my home/practice amp. Now just gotta wait for the tiny thing to arrive
  17.
Why? Easy. Ashdown = woolly * runs away *
Haha, nice!
  18. Have Eminence got a 3015 / 3015LF equivalent in 10" diameter? I wonder if that's the sort of direct Mr Claber is heading?....
Ok, if you clever bass people were Merton's sister, what would you get him for christmas or any present for that matter? For Merton is thoroughly crap at giving ideas. This is my Feedback! Thank yououuuu!! Merton tell me - do you see what you've made me resort to?!!!
I think the Ricky cufflinks are an epic win!
  20.
Super Fifteen - full-range 2x15" (two Compacts in one box)
How different from the Vintage is this, just out of curiosity? (No, I am not going to buy one, my next purchase is a Big Twin!!)
  21. What if the best bass player to suit your band is 28 or 29, or even female? Will you turn him or her down? Just askin'
  22. Well that' a f**king bargain to be had right there. Someone bite this man's arm off!
  23. I'd get this
  24.
In terms of construction and components used, early SWR and Eden were very well made and specced.
Definitely. They'd both be near or top of my list
