GONE - IT'S REAL GONE!!!!Here is my Boss BR1600 CD 16 track digital recording studio. This is the top model of the Boss range, and it retails at the Boss regulated price of £979 new. Price drop - now I'm asking a reduced price of £475. It comes with its own power supply & its original box, all the paperwork with the two manuals – the quick guide & the full manual. This machine has been uprated & fitted with an 80 gig hard drive by an approved Boss technician (copy invoice for £130 from September last year with the recorder), and updated software. I had the new hard drive fitted as a result of the only time I lent it out – and it came back faulty – the guyI lent it to just unplugged it from the mains instead of powering it down in the correct sequence! (It does mention it several times in the manuals!) There is now a total recording time of a massive 248 HOURS on it now! The great thing about it is you can record up to 8 inputs simultaneously live – it really is great for a live band recording. It has two headphone outputs on it so – for example, you can have a mate record straight in on his guitar – there is a specific extra input for this, he can listen & play on one set of 'phones & you can listen & set the levels, apply eq. etc. on the other output. You can apply effects to the recordings, do drum tracks on it & bass lines – there is a CD with it that I've never opened from Boss with a drum library on it. You can get all the details of it for the link to the Boss site here:- http://www.bossus.co...p?ProductId=574 It has USB connection, ¼" jack sockets for the inputs or 3 pin XLR, and can provide 48 volts Phantom power for condenser microphones. It has lots & lots of facilities, and you can totally immerse yourself in it – then, when you have finished, you stick a CDR in it & - there you go, a quality CD recorded & mixed exactly as you wanted. I've had loads of fun with it & recorded lots of people & bands in all sorts of places, but I'm moving on now and don't use it very often, so it's got to go. I'm throwing in a pair of ATA 1118 headphones with it as they will JUST fit in the box & they are what I used with it. A bit flaky on the ear padding, but they have a great sound. I can post it by carrier for about £9, (but another £22.50 if you want insurance of £500 on it)! Alternatively I'm in Morecambe so you could call, pay cash & save the postage charges. I do get down to Manchester & Oldham now & again, so I could bring it down there.

Here are two excellent Sontronics STC1 cardioid condenser instrument microphones complete with their mounting clips and foam Pop shields in excellent/as new condition. I have two for sale. One is in its wooden presentation box at £55. The other is just in a zip up (Shure) mic.bag, and I'm asking £49 for that one I bought the pair to do some recording with on my Boss BR1600CD recorder - (also up for sale!)and they give excellent, clear results. Useful switching to give two frequencies of “Bass cut”, and you can reduce the output level with a switch as well. I absolutely agree with the first paragraph of the manufacturers write up below which I copied from their website. Don’t forget it’s a condenser mic, so it needs 48 volts to run it – your mixer desk or PA may well be able to provide it via the “Phantom Power” switching option – so do check it out. They retail in stores at around £100-£120, but you can buy them for £55 for the one in its presentation case & £49 for the one in ithe mic. bag - plus postage. More information on the microphone below, but you can also visit the manufacturer’s website at :- www.sontronics.com The STC-1 is perfectly suited to recording instruments of any kind, as a drum overhead or for simply capturing room ambience. Thanks to its three-stage filter and pad switches, the STC-1 is one of the most flexible microphones in its class. The STC-1 comes in a luxury, velvet-lined wooden box with a mounting clip and windshield, and it is compatible with the Sontronics OMNI and HYPER capsules, available separately. This is the Silver STC-1 with a brushed nickel finish. TECHNICAL DATA • Response: 25Hz - 20kHz • Sensitivity: 12mV/Pa -36dB ±2dB (0dB = 1V/Pa 1,000Hz) • Polar pattern: Cardioid • Impedance: ≤200 Ohms • Equivalent noise level: 16dB (A-weighted) • Max SPL (for 0.5% THD @ 1,000Hz): 137dB -

Good afternoon - has anyone tried Olympia bass strings? There is a seller "Black Dog Music" on Ebay who is selling them - I'm interested because of the price - stainles wound flatwound s fro £16. That's cheap if they are any good, but, of course, that's very expensive if they are rubbish!!!! Just wondered has anyone had experience of them? Regards, Stompbox.

Good afternoon - A couple of questions for you experienced guitar builders :- 1) I wondered if anyone here has tried these necks? http://www.dangleberrymusic.co.uk/p-188-dr...ingerboard.aspx These are the "DR" PN1020-M - the price is good at £56 - but only if the necks are any good, of course! The second question is - 2) How to get a thick, high gloss lacquer finish like the Fender P necks have? Is it a question of lots of thin coats? Is there a thread on the site about it? I did see reference to one of you guys on these build diaries saying that they might do an article on getting a thick epoxy finish, but that's something else - presumably for a fretless fingerboard. Thanks for any help, Geoff

Here is my American Standard Precision Bass in three colour sunburst - these are on the market for about £1100 now, so I'm looking for £795 It’s made in the USA in 2007 and is in really excellent, unmarked condition – the only wear are some plectrum scuffs on the scratchplate and the plastic cover of the pickup. I really love this bass – it has the fabulous slick, maple neck & fretboard with the new High Mass Bridge that is now fitted to Fender basses. This gives you the option of stringing it through the body, or through the back of the bridge. The sound & playability are excellent – a really top instrument. It comes in its own SKB fitted Fender flightcase with key. There is also the Fender owner’s manual, Allen key etc. I’m selling it as I’ve got too much money tied up in instruments and as this one is in virtually new condition (even the case is unmarked) – I would rather sell it before I manage to ding it or mark it! I'm in sunny Morecambe near Lancaster - you're welcome to come & try it out, but I can arrange to have it sent in ts case by carrier - I would have to get a quote for this. Well now - it's three of a kind, but only two of three basses - I hope you will forgive me. A pretty good trio, in my view. Hmm - may have to get a tortoiseshell pickguard for the Strat......................... Stompbox

Yes - you are probably right. That's what I think I will do. Are there any decent plans available through the Bsschat site? Thanks, Stompbox.
Just make two 1x15.
Well yes, but then you couldn't carry, say, your packed lunch, or other interesting soft, squidgy items inside the open topped (and bottomed) cabinets -to save space ............. you know, a bit like the old dance band drum kits, where the bass drum came in half, and you could put the cymbals and snare inside, then clip it back together for transit. You could put it together side by side as well.......

Following on from my earlier post, I'm acquiring a pair of 15" bass drivers - now I'm thinking about building a 2 x 15" vertical cab. How about one that will clip together (but have an open base on the top cabinet, and an open top on the bottowm one, if you see what I mean,) so as to make it more portable? Hmmm...

Good morning! Let's hear it for the Bose "Vertical Array" speakers. I went out and bought a Bose L1 system, a Tonematch mixer, & two B1 bass boxes after using another bands system just once. It all breaks down into light separate units, gives a geat bass sound, AND you can put the vocals through it as well. Like Bassninja said - evenly spread sound through the whole room - very strange, and delivers the sound round corners too! It means the punters near the band don't get blasted, and the people at the back get to hear it too (and round the corners in odd shaped rooms). A real revelation after playing through "normal" equipment - in front of a big speaker "box", and from behind two PA columns for the last 40 years!. Not loud, but great, even, quality, sound right through the venue. (Hey - I think I'll see if I can get a "Bose Sales" T shirt & a sponsorship deal -Hmmmmm.) Speaking of vertical amps of yesteryear does anyone remember "TRIUMPH" amplifiers - they were a 2 x 12" vertical combo - - back in the late Sixteis - a local band I knew had them & I recall they had a great sound (for the time).
