1. Good evening - Could you tell me what size & weight the amp. is please , and can you confirm it's a 12" speaker, also whereabouts are you in Cheshire? I'm after a "house" amplifier...... Cheers.
2. Hi - where are you in Cumbria please - are you around Windermere?
3. Here's the best price I can find for a new one, so maybe a bit over the half price mark??? Hope this helps. http://www.themusicking.co.uk/kustom-kba10...amplifier-combo
4. Hi - is this Trace still for sale? Thanks.
5. Thanks guys, Should have looked back to see if it was discussed before, Sorry
6. So who has tried these? At the price I'm sure a few people here have given them a go - what did you think of them? 7.
Headset radio mics, wireless packs for the instruments. Amp sims / POD's into a small 12 channel passive mixer out to powered speakers. Now you don't have to carry instrument amps, mic stands, mic leads or a PA amp. You'll also be lighter by about £2000. Glad you had a good gig, though.
Well, that's right - we played through one of the Bose L1 systems when we were playing with another band a few weeks ago - that WAS stunning - simple to assemble, light and, - I believe, with a couple of bass speakers fitted you can run bass through them. One of those, plus, as you say, radio headset mics and radio links on the guitars - maybe £3.5K would see us right..... Seriously great piece of kit though - even sound distribution through the room. Very clear and a good tone. What a truly different/attitude changing experience after playing through columns, or their equivalent, for all this time. So what are the next six numbers for Wednesday night's Lotto draw then.... HMMMMMM...
8. Well then, I'm up and about after last night's gig at a fairly local pub. -That's me on the 62 Reissue Jazz bass & my mate John on guitar. Just a standard covers duo with the best drummer in the world - starts & stops when you want, keeps at a steady speed, as loud (or as quiet) as you want, doesn't argue & doesn't want a share of the fee! He's called Alex (Alesis drum machine)! Anyhoo we rolled out our three half hours to a so-so audience and it was OK - got compliments, had friends come (and stay!) So we come to strip all the gear down & load it into the cars - hey - you know how it goes. Freezing night, screen frozen up, the gear's getting heavier and heavier I swear. And ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT & CABLES!!! WOW - how are we to reduce it down - ridiculous amount of stuff just to go out & play in a duo - and we didn't even take the monitors last night. Handling the gear FOUR TIMES - out into the car, out into the gig, back to the car, back in the house. I've been playing on & off (mostly on) for forty years now - it's not getting any easier! I know, I know, you don't have to do it, but if only I had taken up the Piccolo (perhaps doubling on Flute). So here I am counting my half of our monster fee and recovering by degrees. Just a little down, but hey - you just know the next one will be great.....
9. Hey Bassace - thanks for the reply. Yes, you can move the mic about to find the right spot in the instrument, and no, it isn't toppy at all, neither is feedback as much of an issues as it was with the piezo mounted bridge unit. Mateybass - I am astounded to hear that, but, given that the unit runs off small batteries :- 1) I shouldn't think it will affect any planes as it supposedly has a range of 30 feet. 2) Would the "frequency police" be about with a detector - like in the old war films with the Gestapo triangulating on me from nearby (within 30 feet)? I take your point & I am not trying to be frivolous but I will check with the supplier on the frequency.
10. Yes I saw this too - I got an Email from the Fender site announcing its new products & this was on it. Like you say it's a real stunner, but hey - a spare £1900 - not at the moment. I really love Jazz basses and I bet this is yet another great example. I might have to settle for one of the Squier Vintage Modified as finances are at present - only £275 or thereabouts for one of those & a really nice neck (on the one I tried, anyway). Geoff
11. Well what do you think of this - I got a radio mic, transmitter & receiver off Ebay (only a cheap one - and I mean cheap - £9.99 & no postage!). I took the headset microphone apart - took the headband off, & hot glued a piece of rubber to the back of the microphone bendy arm. I've attached photos of the setup. I clamp it to the bridge with a jumbo crocodile clip, then the mic head (with pop shield) goes through the "F" hole and the transmitter goes on my belt. Then you have on/off and MOST IMPORTANT you have a volume control for your bass and NO WIRES. It really does sound good - the receiver just plugs in to your amplifier input it just has an on/off switch & a short dangly aerial wire. It takes far less EQing than a bridge mounted piezo pickup. I can't beleive how good it sounds (and you are probably thinking the same) - but it does! This is the link -and no, I'm not on commission!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WIRELESS-MICROPHONE-...=item4a98c98fe4 It really, really works - I don't know about the range of the transmitter/receiver, but it's OK in my front room. Anyway that's my ten pennyworth. No doubt someone will shoot it down, but hey, for the price it's worth a go. Stompbox.
12. Good morning! I bought a Stentor 3/4 bass, model 1950. It's not a top line instrument, but it's the one I have started on, and it has a good gig bag & a solid top. I had the nut adjusted, an adjustable bridge fitted, and a new set of strings put on. It plays OK for me!! THE OTHER THING I DID WAS TO USE VERY FINE STEEL WOOL TO GENTLY RUB DOWN THE BACK OF THE NECK TO GET A GOOD SMOOTH SURFACE FOR MY HAND TO SLIDE ON. All the best, Stompbox.
13. I have decided to keep the pickup for the time being.
14. Hi - back after break for Christmas/New Year. Thanks for your reply, but it looks like I missed out on the Orchestral set you recommended! When you say "adventurous" as regards a solo set, is the idea that you would normally use them a tone up, or deliberately run them slack at normal pitch? Could I get an idea of how they would feel by de-tuning my bass by a full tone? Cheers.
15. Hey - I've just been having a look on this topic/thresd. The information you've set out is really VERY helpful. I've just got myself started on DB. Thanks
16. Good afternoon, Have you still got any sets left - I have only recently got a 3/4 DB - it's strung with Innovation black nylon "Ultra Black" which are high tension (it says on the box). What I'm after are a set that are, perhaps, a little easier to play - are the Helicore Solo or Orchestral more suitable - I'm playing ( or TRYING to play ) pizz for fairly basic Country/Blues/Standards kind of stuff. On a purely practical note metallic/silver strings would also be easier to see in a dark setting on a black fingerboard! Anyway do you have a set that might suit please? Thanks.
17. Finally back from Belgium & the rainy wet horrible continent. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but glad that you've sold it!
18. Hi, Struggling to get a sensible quote from carriers. Off to France & Belgium this weekend so will give it another try when I get back if it's still for sale, Cheers, Stompbox.
19. Ok - thanks for the info. I'll see how much a carrier would cost & get back to you, Cheers
20. Hi, Hey there , Is the DI out on the back, and can you still have the amp's own speaker running at the same time? If so then I'd be interested in your amp but what weight is it? I could maybe get a carrier to pick it up from you if you would wrap it up in cardboard - - not driving to Glasgow! Stompbox
21. Well here we are - I thought t was just me that got annoyed with fan noises! I've got an Ashdown MAG400 combo - the fan runs all the time - it's not really noisy, but drives me mad for hom use/practice. Fine at Gig levels. I've fitted a manual fan swith and just hope to remember to switch it on at gigs! Stompbox.
22. Hey there - thanks for the acknowledgesments & encouraging words.
23. Great to have found a site like this! I've been playing Electric Bass Guitar for a long time now - since the late 60's - (although not continuously - I've been on six string Rhythm, Lead, Bass, Rhythm & then back on bass). Set off on heavy/rock - Hendrix/Cream/Tim Rose etc. Moved on to duos, Country Bands and even a Dance Band playing strict tempo stuff! That was a well paid gig & usually at smart venues with a meal laid on for the band. Anyway I'm back on my first love, the bass & playing covers with a mate of mine (who used to play with Brian May in the pre Queen band "1984"). My bass is a Fender MIJ 62 reissue Fender Jazz through a Sansamp Bass Driver into an Ashdown Mag 400 2 x 10 combo with a Celestion 100watt extension cabinet. I've also got an old Framus semi acoustic "Star" bass (like Bill Wyman played), but that's just for messing about on. So here I am, still reasonably fired up about bass playing & singing the lead vocals, but I tell you it's very hard to get gigs at the moment here in the UK in the Lancaster/area....... Stompbox.
